Chapter 315: Return to Knockturn Alley
Chapter 315: Return to Knockturn Alley
The highly intelligent Thestral flapped its wings, gliding through the sky above the Forbidden Forest, heading in the direction it was guided.
Seeing his new steed so obedient, Ivan couldn't help but feel relieved. He had been a bit worried that this large creature might be unwilling to leave its habitat with its new owner, whom it had just met.
Ivan couldn't help but marvel at the accuracy of the records about Thestrals in *The Monster Book of Monsters*.
Although they are extremely proud creatures, once you have the chance to ride one, Thestrals become very compliant.
The book also mentioned a story of a warrior riding a Thestral, flying over the Alps from Italy to Britain. Ivan didn't know if it was true, but today he was definitely going to fly from Hogwarts to London.
*Whirr*
Just as Ivan was thinking about this,
a loud rumble sounded from below. Ivan looked down and saw that the Hogwarts Express had arrived at the platform, with steam billowing up from the chimney.
On the platform, young wizards queued up, waiting to board the train. Ivan, standing far away, even caught a glimpse of his own self about to board the train.
Though he was under the Disillusionment Charm, Ivan still gestured for the Thestral to fly higher to avoid being detected by the crowd below.
Soon, under Ivan's watchful eye, the Hogwarts Express let out a long whistle and slowly began to move.
"We need to speed up!" Ivan patted the Thestral's back and said.
He had to arrive at Knockturn Alley before the train reached London.
The brown-red giant sensed Ivan's urgency and accelerated, flying in a straight line along the railway tracks, quickly leaving the steam train far behind.
After flying for what seemed like an eternity, the cold wind blew against Ivan's body. Below, there was no sign of human habitation, only vast, lush forests. Looking back, the red train was no longer in sight.
Ivan tightened his Invisibility Cloak to keep it from being blown away by the storm.
However, dark clouds had already blanketed the sky, and then heavy rain poured down, the cold raindrops striking the Invisibility Cloak and trickling down.
Ivan grumbled about the terrible weather. He couldn't quite remember if it had rained on his way back.
The Thestral let out a few excited eagle cries, unlike Ivan, it seemed to enjoy the storm.
After a while, the rain gradually stopped, and the distant London wizarding station came into view. Ivan didn't dare to ride the Thestral into the station, so he directed it to land in a nearby forest.
"Thank you, big guy, you can take me this far!" Ivan dismounted, turned around, and patted the brown-red giant's head. He left a Tracking Charm on the Thestral and said,
If his stay was long enough, he might be able to ride it back.
The Thestral licked Ivan's palm, perhaps understanding what Ivan meant, and then walked into the forest on its own.
Ivan wasn't worried that the Thestral would cause a panic. This area was still within the magical world, not the Muggle world, so it wouldn't be a big deal if it was seen.
Looking at the distant wizarding station, Ivan didn't choose to enter London through the Platform 9¾ and then head to Knockturn Alley via the Leaky Cauldron.
Instead, he planned to use Apparition.
The magical energy required for moving between locations within the same city was manageable.
Ivan thought of the alley in front of the Dark Magic Shop, setting his goal, and quickly waved his wand.
"Apparition!"
As the light and shadow intertwined, Ivan felt his body being enveloped by something, only to be spat out again.
Once Ivan stabilized himself and looked around, he realized he had reached his destination. His Dark Magic Shop was not far away, looking intact with the door wide open, and he could vaguely see Aisha sitting at the counter.
Ivan, wearing the Invisibility Cloak, silently stood at the entrance, watching Aisha. His heart was a mix of emotions, and he was eager to say something, to ask many questions, but he held back, not taking another step forward.
The door of the magic shop was enchanted with a detection spell. If anyone stepped in, the bell hanging at the entrance would ring. Ivan wasn’t sure if the Invisibility Cloak could shield against such detection.
However, the counter was close to the entrance, and Ivan stood less than three meters from Aisha, able to see her expression clearly.
To Ivan’s surprise, Aisha looked relaxed, with no signs of tension before the impending battle. She was idly propping her cheek with her right hand, her purple eyes staring blankly at the clock on the wall. From Ivan’s perspective, he could only see her exquisite profile.
"Why is she looking at the clock? Does she know when those people will attack?" Ivan wondered, glancing at the clock from a distance.
It was about three hours before the explosion he had heard earlier.
Ivan took a deep look at Aisha, holding the Time Turner at his chest, and decisively turned to leave. He planned to find the attackers on his own or deal with the owner of Borgin and Burkes beforehand.
He had initially considered coming back and informing Aisha, then dealing with the black-robed wizards together.
But Ivan ultimately dismissed the idea because if Aisha engaged in battle at the Dark Magic Shop, she would be at risk of death, guided by fate.
Ivan had gone through great lengths to travel through time and didn’t want to take any risks!
Moreover, convincing Aisha to hide temporarily while he dealt with the intruders was out of the question; it didn’t fit her character.
So, Ivan decided to keep it a secret. He felt that, wearing the Invisibility Cloak and with the element of surprise, he had a good chance of handling the enemies.
Of course, this was on the condition of dealing with them one by one!
Ivan walked towards Borgin and Burkes, planning to ambush and eliminate a few black-robed wizards, reducing their numbers. Then he would figure out how to set up the scene to deceive himself.
As he turned a corner, Ivan stopped, his anger rising.
Not far away, two wizards were chatting and laughing as they approached. One of them was familiar to Ivan; he was one of the attackers at the Dark Magic Shop.
Ivan waited quietly as they walked past, the tip of his wand in his right hand gathering power. He hesitated, unsure whether to act now or wait until they reached a more secluded area.
As the two were about to leave the alley, Ivan finally made up his mind: he would take out one of them, at least!
