Chapter 315: Alice's Game
Chapter 315: Alice's Game
March brought clearer skies, but the biting cold still stung their hands and faces whenever they ventured outside the grounds. Recently, the Magic Defense Copper Bracelet had been selling quite well, likely due to Krum and the others' effective marketing. This forced Liam to spend some time crafting more, especially the ones that combined physical defense, which sold for over 100 Galleons each. It seemed that the Magic world was indeed filled with wealthy individuals.
One day, after class, Liam received a message from the Multiverse General Store. The little Puppets had temporarily concluded their journey in the World of Ice and Fire and had returned home. When he found a moment to slip away and enter the store, he saw Rose Crystal sitting in a chair, happily humming a tune.
"Big Brother, you came to see me so quickly after I got back?" Rose Crystal was delighted that Liam had greeted her upon her return.
"Yeah, I came straight here as soon as my class ended. How was your trip this time?" Liam took the comb the Puppet offered and began to brush her hair as he asked.
"It was amazing! This time, each of us played the role of a Deity. Azureemerald went to the north of Westeros to play the role of the Old Gods, Canary and Berry went to King's Landing to play the Seven, Crimson is now the Red God, and Mercury Lamp took the mantle of the Many-Faced God. Oh, and they are now in a Tournament. The winner gets to spend a weekend alone with Sister Alice and Father Rogen."
"You're not participating, so why are you so excited?" Liam asked, puzzled by Rose Crystal's enthusiasm.
"Big Brother, you're such a dolt. I'm one of the judges." Rose Crystal, after finishing her hair, flew to Liam's shoulder and tugged at his hair. "They originally planned to take the Frost God's mantle, but they discovered that it was filled with the obsession of destroying living things. So, the game's objective is to completely destroy the Frost God and his undead army, shattering his mantle. Since everyone swore in Sister Alice's name, this Tournament is called Alice's Game."
Liam thought to himself, "This seems much grander than the original Alice's Game." He turned to look at Rose Crystal. "Are you all participating in this Tournament yourselves?"
"Of course not. The main characters in that world are humans. So, our role is to inspire and guide all the humans to defeat the powerful enemies. We won't join the fight unless it becomes critically dangerous." Rose Crystal shook her head.
After saying this, Rose Crystal flew to a wooden chest, lifted the lid with effort, and smiled at Liam. "Look, our Long-Distance Trade Fleet found a great treasure on their latest voyage. It's something they obtained from defeating pirates. What do you think?"
Liam approached and saw a set of scale armor inside the copper-clad wooden chest. The armor was a smoky black. When he lifted it, he realized it was as light as a silk blouse. The edges of the scales were a deep gold, shimmering slightly as they moved. The metal was adorned with patterns—spirals, runes, and mysterious symbols, all etched into the steel.
"This is a Valyrian Steel Armor enchanted with defensive Magic. It can also adjust to the wearer's size to a small extent. If I remember correctly, it was supposed to be in the hands of the notorious pirate, Euron Crow's Eye. How did our sailors manage to defeat such a powerful pirate? I don't recall anyone in the fleet being particularly skilled in Kung Fu, and even the Wind Rifles wouldn't have much effect on someone wearing this armor."
"It was just good luck." Rose Crystal sat on the edge of the chest. "The fleet's captain said that they encountered a single-masted pirate ship with black sails and a red hull while returning from Bear Island, near the ruins of Valyria. A tall pirate with an eye patch was standing at the bow, wielding a sword and giving commands."
After firing the cannons, this pirate became too conspicuous and was immediately targeted. He was hit by two 120mm steel-core shells and sent flying into the sea. When they recovered the body, they found he had already died. The cause of death was multiple fractures and internal bleeding, leading to unconsciousness and drowning. However, his armor was undamaged, and the captain thought it might be valuable, so he stripped it off and brought it back.
Liam thought this guy was really unlucky. In hand-to-hand combat, he probably wouldn't have met his match in the entire fleet. With this armor, he might have been able to wreak havoc among the enemy. But because of the times, he was hit directly by a cannonball. The scale armor, which could resist blunt force, deformed under the impact. As a result, his raid failed, and he lost his life.
However, Liam was grateful for the contribution of this man who hadn't adapted to the times. It allowed him to possess a piece of Valyrian Steel armor, something that appeared in the original story.
With the help of Rose Crystal, Liam put on the armor. After injecting a bit of magic power, the armor shrank slightly and became more form-fitting. After performing a few movements, he found the armor was very light and did not hinder his movements. Liam then took out a knight's sword from his spatial bag and performed a series of movements to confirm this.
Clap, clap, clap. As Liam sheathed his sword, Rose Crystal clapped her hands enthusiastically, her little face beaming with joy. Then, the small puppet jumped down from the box and handed him a few books.
"What are these?" Liam asked, holding the books.
"These are from the sisters. They knew you were collecting all sorts of supernatural power techniques. After ascending to godhood, they compiled all the techniques they could find and brought you copies", Rose Crystal said seriously, looking up at Liam.
"Thank you so much", Liam said, placing the books on the shelves and then began communicating with the system to absorb the knowledge.
Contrary to his expectations, this time, most of the knowledge came from the priests of the Red God, the Faceless Men of the Many-Faced God, and the shapeshifters of the Old Gods. After removing some magic that only worked under the rules of the World of Ice and Fire, such as prophecy, resurrection by the Red God's priests, and the green vision of the shapeshifters, the remaining knowledge required only a few deviation points.
With Liam already proficient in nature magic and assassin skills, the deviation points required for many of the new skills were significantly reduced. He only needed to spend 26 deviation points to master all the knowledge he gained this time.
After absorbing the knowledge, Liam reviewed his memory and found his main gains were as follows: First, he mastered Flame Power, which allowed him to enchant weapons or shape flames into any form. He even formed a ladder using flames at the emporium and climbed over a meter high.
Second, the Shapeshifter Spell allowed him to control an animal with complete precision, rather than the vague manipulation provided by nature magic.
Finally, the most significant gain came from the legacy of the Faceless Ones. Fortunately, with his mastery of magic power, Liam didn't need to use the disgusting human skin masks; he only needed a bit of hair or skin flakes from his target, similar to a Polyjuice Potion. Additionally, he gained a wealth of knowledge about poisons and antidotes, which, although most of the elixir ingredients came from the World of Ice and Fire, were still highly useful. As a king in that world, gathering the ingredients wouldn't be too difficult.
In summary, most of the new powers he gained had commonalities with his existing abilities. Liam believed that once he integrated these powers through alchemy, his strength would reach a new level.
The small puppet seemed to be doing well in the World of Ice and Fire. After bidding farewell to Rose Crystal, Liam returned to the school, feeling satisfied and grateful.
