Chapter 313: You've Got Guts, Agincourt!
Chapter 313: You've Got Guts, Agincourt!
Mist, eternal mist, obscuring everything from view.
Agincourt stood in the midst of this mist, panting heavily, his entire body radiating scorching heat, his skin turned a deep crimson.
Bang!
A fist clad in a diamond gauntlet struck him, but upon contact with the extreme heat, the armor melted, reducing the fist to a molten mess.
"Any metal that comes near me will melt!" Agincourt declared.
Agincourt spun and kicked, his foot piercing through a man's abdomen as if it were tofu. The searing heat caused smoke to rise from the man's body.
"Klick, you died long ago. Don't show yourself to me again!" Agincourt shouted.
The man before Agincourt was Klick, clad in golden battle armor. Agincourt had killed him countless times before.
Something had been amiss since he set foot on this island.
As soon as he stepped ashore, without venturing too far inland, the mist that had been shallow now grew thicker, obscuring his surroundings completely. Then, Agincourt encountered something that astonished him.
The long-dead Klick had appeared, and not just once!
The first time, it was the last image he had of Klick—the scene where he tried to lower the pirate flag and claim the ship once more, only to be fiercely rejected by Agincourt.
Captain Sagger did not appear after that, and Klick launched an attack. However, in front of Agincourt now, Klick couldn't even breach his defenses. A single punch ignited the heat that pierced through his chest.
Then, Klick appeared again.
This time, the scene changed to the Baratie, but without Straw Hat Luffy. After stealing the food, Klick launched a poison gas bomb at Agincourt, who was unable to defeat Sanji. Everyone except Agincourt fell victim to the poison and died. Enraged, Agincourt killed Klick once more.
And then it changed again.
Barely escaping the Grand Line, they encountered the Navy. Agincourt's instinct was to hold off the Navy alone, but as despicable as Klick was, he was still a pirate. Dealing with the Navy took priority.
However, just as he prepared to act, Klick sneaked up behind Agincourt and struck, killing him once more.
Then came Hawkeye...
The first entry into the Grand Line...
The setbacks in the East Blue...
One after another, the scenes flashed through Agincourt's mind like a revolving lantern, and with each memory, Klick would appear and be defeated.
Until now, there were no more scenes left, but Klick continued to exist, reappearing no matter how many times he was slain.
"A Devil Fruit user?" Agincourt mused, having dispatched yet another Klick. His clenched fist trembled slightly, and the red dots in his eyes flickered as he roared into the mist, "Captain Sagger said that all strange phenomena can be explained by Devil Fruits. You're just a Devil Fruit user, and when I find you, I will defeat you!"
Boom!
As his voice echoed, a thunderous roar tore through the mist-shrouded sky, darkening it further as a violent storm unleashed its fury.
"A storm?" Agincourt muttered, turning instinctively. The mist that had concealed the weather was now swept away by the tempest, revealing the sea. Upon those turbulent waters, a massive black ship slowly drew near.
"The Grim Reaper's Stern?" Agincourt exclaimed, his eyes widening as he recognized the vessel. "Captain Sagger!"
A figure leaped from the ship's bow, landing above Agincourt. Even as Agincourt's eyes lit up with joy, a powerful punch slammed into his face, sending him flying backward.
Agincourt tumbled backward, sliding across the ground for several meters before he managed to stagger to his feet, disbelief written across his face. "Ca—Captain Sagger?"
"Useless," Sagger said flatly, his expression devoid of emotion. "Why couldn't you complete the mission? Why didn't you obey my orders? I have no use for subordinates who disobey."
As he spoke, Agincourt thought he heard Klick's voice overlapping with Sagger's.
Agincourt's pupils contracted, and he blurted out, "Captain Sagger, that's not true! I... No, wait!"
He stared intently at Sagger, suddenly standing tall and gritting his teeth. "Captain Sagger wouldn't say such things! Is this another Devil Fruit ability?"
"What do you mean, I wouldn't say such things? Do you think I'd seek out useless crew members? Agincourt, you've disappointed me," Sagger said, his tone cold. "Ever since the East Blue, I've had high hopes for you, but what have you given me in return?"
"Nothing, it seems," Sagger continued, his voice laced with disdain. "I've been helping you this whole time. As a captain, how can I tolerate a subordinate who can't pull his weight? You're worthless, and so are the rest of them!"
"But... but..." Agincourt sputtered.
"Agincourt, don't blame the captain," came a chorus of voices as the six executive officers swiftly approached from behind Sagger. On the right, Lily maintained her usual icy demeanor. "In the world of pirates, it's normal to be eliminated if you're weak. Go find yourself a deserted island and exile yourself."
"Hehehehe, that's the way of the sea," Moriah cackled from the left. "The weak perish."
The rest of the crew stood expressionless, their eyes cold as they gazed at Agincourt.
It can't be...
It has to be fake!
Captain Sagger wouldn't...
He wouldn't...
Agincourt's clenched fists trembled, the red dots in his eyes flickering and then vanishing completely, even as he continued to exert his Devil Fruit ability.
"You're Ability-created beings, and I'll take you all out!" Agincourt grit his teeth and charged forward.
"It's over."
In a room, a figure sat in the foremost seat, his face half-shrouded in darkness, only the curve of his mouth visible as he let out a soft sigh.
"The fear in people's hearts never truly disappears," he said. "No matter how they motivate themselves, if they don't see any change over time, doubt will creep in, and doubt is the beginning of fear."
In front of him, a Den Den Mushi projected an image of Agincourt rushing towards Sagger and throwing a punch.
Beside the Den Den Mushi, a man dressed as an agent paused, a flicker of unease crossing his eyes, but he quickly smiled and said, "Even Den Den Mushis can be deceived. You truly are impressive; I couldn't tell the difference between the real and the fake."
"A frog at the bottom of a well can't even see the sky, so how can it possibly distinguish between illusion and reality?"
The figure in the shadows coldly huffed, "Let them drown in their limited understanding. In this cruel world, it might even be a blessing for them."
The agent's mouth twitched, and he said, "Marroni, don't forget the promise you made to us. Without our help..."
"Without your help, I can still occupy this place. And without me, you would have nothing," Marroni interrupted.
The agent's eyes narrowed, and he continued, "It was you who approached us for this collaboration, not the other way around. Remember that."
The agent clenched his fists and then slowly released them, a smile returning to his face as he said, "As long as you cooperate with us and don't overstep your bounds, we can allow whatever you wish. When will the next batch of your trainees be ready?"
"In half an hour," Marroni replied.
"Don't forget the supplies you promised," the agent reminded him.
The agent's eyes flickered to the projection, where Agincourt was fighting the members of the Catastrophic Pirates. A hint of worry crept into his voice as he asked, "How much longer can this guy hold out?"
"As long as we have enough time, everything will be completed," Marroni assured him.
He continued, his voice turning somber, "But even if he holds out longer, it won't matter now."
The agent laughed, "Then, can we have him? He would make an excellent servant. To be able to endure for so long, his willpower is truly admirable. He even ate raw meat when he was hungry."
The shadowy figure's mouth curved again in a confident smirk, "Sure, but I'll need more supplies."
"No problem," the agent said. "But he's a high-ranking member of the Catastrophic Pirates. If anything goes wrong, we won't get involved."
"This place... they won't be able to enter. They'll sink into illusions, unable to tell what's real and what's not," Marroni explained. "Even I can be influenced by this ability, blurring my perception. But because of this, no one can intrude upon this island without my permission. Otherwise, they will face the same fate as this man!"
Boom!
Thunder rumbled, illuminating the mist once more.
"It's all fake! None of it is real!"
Agincourt, his body glowing with heat and his skin a deep crimson, punched and melted Sagger's head, then stomped on Moriah's chest, creating a huge hole. He roared in madness, "It's all lies! You can't deceive me! Captain Sagger isn't that weak!"
This was already the third batch.
The Catastrophic Pirates that appeared were indeed fake—a Sagger who showed no mercy, cold-hearted companions, and vicious underlings trying to kill him to earn merit.
It was all because he was too weak!
If he was this weak, then everything must be fake! It had to be!
His eyes, once capable of the Kenbunshoku Haki, had lost even their basic clarity and were now clouded and dim.
He couldn't hold on any longer.
Even if it was all fake, the repeated killing and the constant need to differentiate between reality and illusion were incredibly exhausting. Without realizing it, Agincourt's eyes, dim and cloudy, were now shrouded in a mist of their own as he stood in the area illuminated by the thunder.
"Here comes another one!"
Agincourt's fists radiated intense heat, and his voice was like that of a wild beast as he warily eyed the approaching Death Pike. His face twisted in a savage snarl as he shouted, "Come, Sagger! I'm going to kill you!!"
At the bow of the ship.
Sagger had just bitten off the end of a cigar when Miawt and Palul pulled and tugged at him from behind, allowing Palul to lunge forward. He lit a lighter and, before he could even get close to the cigar, a roar echoed from the shore.
The voice sounded familiar.
Palul blinked in surprise, his jaw dropping as he turned to look. His eyes bulged, his teeth clenched, and his hand, holding the lighter, froze in place.
A hand reached out and grabbed Palul's, bringing it closer so that the cigar could be lit.
"Huff."
Sagger exhaled a puff of smoke and watched as Agincourt, wild and ability-crazed, unleashed his power on the shore. He clicked his tongue, "What was he saying just now?"
Lily walked over, a frown on her face as she said, "Sagger, something's not right with him."
"I'm asking what he just said," Sagger repeated.
"He said he's going to kill you," Reneetia piped up, running over with a mischievous grin, her small tiger teeth bared, "A black rebel!"
"Fewer whips for you," Sagger muttered.
He balled his hand into a fist and watched Agincourt on the shore, a cruel smile on his face as he said, "You've got guts, Agincourt!"
