Chapter 313: Being Blind is Indeed a Blessing
Chapter 313: Being Blind is Indeed a Blessing
Amusement Street is Tui Town’s most bustling thoroughfare, offering shopping, taverns, and fine dining. Even without the Martial Arts Grand Tournament, countless visitors flock here regularly.
After all, pirates are never barred from this place.
Thus, the area has always thrived with vitality. Even more so during this grand celebration.
Amusement Street also houses a massive casino—easily the street’s, and the entire town’s greatest money magnet.
Inside the casino, a kaleidoscope of people roams the halls, lavishing extravagant sums. Pirates, those who seize wealth through brute force, find this place particularly irresistible.
Among the crowd, one individual stands out.
At a private table without a dealer, a group of grotesque, menacing gamblers grin as they fixate on a towering giant.
This giant has jet-black short hair and stands roughly 2.7 meters tall. He wears a light-purple kimono, a blackish-purple sash tied around his waist, and a hooded cloak of the same shade drapes from his neck, concealing most of his frame.
His eyes remain tightly shut, and an X-shaped scar stretches across his left forehead.
He’s a blind man.
A blind man gambling at a poker table—of course, it draws attention.
"Uncle, it’s your turn. How much will you bet?"
A pirate smirks, glancing at his own cards. "My hand has the Ten of Plums, a pair of Threes of Diamonds, and a King. Your cards are two Queens, a Four of Hearts, and an Ace of Hearts. How much will you bet?"
"Oh? My turn, is it? My hand seems quite favorable."
The blind giant’s eyes twitch faintly beneath their lids as he pushes half his chips forward. "This hand deserves half my stack. I refuse to believe I’ve no luck left."
"Haha! Maybe your luck ran out today, old man!"
The pirate laughs heartily. "Time to reveal your cards!"
He flips his hidden card, revealing another Ten. "Uncle, I’ve two pairs—Tens and Threes. Now show your hand!"
The blind man traces the table with his hands, locates his hidden card, and lifts it. "Would someone tell me what this card is?"
Before the onlookers can speak, the table’s violent thugs glare furiously, some even drawing blades and licking their edges.
The unspoken threat is clear.
"Allow me to help, Uncle", a nearby gambler chuckles, leaning over. "Oh! Your hidden card is the Seven of Hearts. So you only have a pair of Queens. Can’t beat two pairs. You lose."
"How could this be…"
The blind man’s face falls, his voice trembling. "I felt certain it was an Ace. Could my luck truly vanish like this? I’ve lost again!"
"Hahaha!"
Laughter erupts as someone claps the old man’s shoulder. "Tough luck, but you’ve won so much earlier. Everyone has bad streaks. Nothing to fret about!"
"Exactly! I win!"
The pirate with two pairs grins, reaching to snatch the blind man’s chips.
"But isn’t this the Ace? How could it become the Seven of Hearts?"
Just as the pirate’s hand nears the chips, a slender arm darts out, pulling the card from the blind man’s grasp and placing it on the table.
It’s no Seven of Hearts—it’s the Ace.
"In that case, Uncle, you also have two pairs. And yours is stronger. You clearly won."
The voice is crisp and clear.
All turn to see a woman wearing a crimson hat, her tangerine-yellow hair peeking from beneath the brim.
"Eh? It’s the Ace?!" the blind man gasps.
"Indeed, Uncle. They’re cheating you", the woman replies.
"Stupid woman! Minding your own business!"
A group leaps up, weapons drawn, roaring threats. One nearby swings a long blade straight at her.
"Cheating and then attacking when caught? How vulgar."
The woman shrugs, balls her right fist at her waist, ready to strike.
Whoosh!
In an instant, a blade flash erupts.
The blind man vanishes from his seat. His cane—actually a cane sword—whips free. Gripping it in reverse, he reappears behind the group. They freeze as if struck.
They felt the slash. The pirate reaching for chips instinctively checks himself. No wounds.
The blind man spins his blade, sheathing it slowly. "Girl, please step back."
Startled, the woman retreats a few steps.
The blind man’s eyelids part slightly, revealing faint wisps of white. As the blade settles into the sheath, he murmurs, "Being blind is indeed a blessing, for this world holds too many wretched sights unworthy of my gaze."
Click.
The blade rests.
At this moment, the woman senses an immense aura, her eyes widening.
Bang!!
Suddenly, the front door explodes open.
A rush of heavy footsteps floods in as armed soldiers storm the room, leveling guns at the crowd.
"Navy?!"
The woman’s eyes widen.
The blind man’s ears twitch. The aura dissipates. He lowers his cane and turns toward the entrance.
"Time for an inspection! Time for an inspection!"
A voice bellows as the Navy enters.
A man strides in wearing a Navy officer’s hooded cloak, a cigar dangling from his lips. His arrogance is palpable.
"Gathering for gambling? That’s damn illegal! Stand still! Navy’s conducting a raid!" he roars.
"Mr. Kuro, gambling isn’t illegal here", a bespectacled man in a matching Navy cloak reminds him.
Kuro glares, "I say it’s illegal, so it is! Which side are you on?! Go start arrests!"
"Kuro?"
The woman stares intently. Her sharp eyes catch the city street outside—people lining up, and rough-looking thugs maintaining order.
"Lucius Kro… Why is he here?" she mutters.
"Huh? Who the hell called my name?"
Kuro’s ears twitch. He turns toward the voice, then freezes. His gaze locks onto the blind man in the purple kimono, mouth falling open.
"Mr. Kuro?" Klah notices Kuro’s shock.
"Hey, you’ve gotta be kidding me. What are you doing here?" Kuro curses, clicking his tongue.
Purple kimono. Blind. Cane in hand, radiating a weapon’s aura—it’s a cane sword. Life aura so terrifying it defies belief.
Only one person matches.
A smile tugs at the corner of his lips.
