Chapter 313: Apologies... Refused!
Chapter 313: Apologies... Refused!
Peter Pettigrew looked utterly bewildered, but as an adult wizard with a normal IQ, he quickly deduced something significant from Ivan’s words.
"Think it over and drink the Potion. I don’t want to hear any more nonsense from you!" Ivan handed over the improved Polyjuice Potion he had brewed.
Peter took it with trembling hands, not daring to resist in the slightest. In his mind, Ivan was even more terrifying than the Dark Lord.
Recalling the familiar setup of the room when he entered, Peter felt tears welling up in his eyes. If he could, he would rather know nothing at all.
However, as a man with no principles and a tendency to switch sides, Peter knew that to save his life, he had to prove his worth. So, without hesitation, he drank the entire Potion in one go.
Peter’s cooperation surprised Ivan. He had expected Peter to refuse the Potion just like he had done before.
After realizing that the young wizard in front of him was only using him to test the Potion and posed no threat to his life, Peter gradually relaxed and even started to serve Ivan diligently.
Ivan felt a bit uncomfortable about experimenting on Peter.
"Master, your Potion ingredients", Peter offered the various materials Ivan needed for brewing, his voice dripping with flattery.
Ivan was taken aback by Peter’s use of the term "master" and found it somewhat awkward. He turned to Peter with a sardonic smile. "Isn’t your master the Dark Lord?"
He must be testing my loyalty! Peter immediately understood this and began to sob, denouncing the Dark Lord’s cruelty and evil, and declaring that he had long severed ties with the Dark Lord and repented.
Then, Peter started praising Ivan’s achievements over the past few years.
He believed that if he could flatter Ivan quickly enough, he wouldn’t be abandoned!
However, the more he spoke, the more he realized that this third-year young wizard had accomplished things that many adult wizards couldn’t!
His flattery became more sincere, and Peter couldn’t help but feel that a young wizard with such exceptional talent, ruthless methods, and ambitious goals might be an excellent person to ally with.
As for the powerless Dark Lord? He was nothing!
Ivan, of course, wasn’t swayed by Peter’s flattery. Instead, he gained a new appreciation for Peter’s shameless nature. The fact that a third-year young wizard could humble himself to the point of acting as a servant was beyond Ivan’s expectations.
However, thanks to Peter’s cooperation, the research progressed much faster than Ivan had anticipated.
In just one night, they confirmed all the data for the improved Potion, effectively completing the enhancement work!
Before dawn, Ivan instructed Peter Pettigrew to transform back into his Animagus form.
A hint of hesitation crossed Peter’s face.
"Don’t worry, my Potion research is complete. This is the last time", Ivan reassured him.
"Thank you, Master!" Peter was moved to tears, feeling that his ordeal was finally over.
Peter quickly shrank in size and transformed into a rat, believing that his efforts had been recognized by Ivan, leading to his merciful pardon.
Perhaps, before long, he would earn Ivan’s trust and follow this rising star in the wizarding world, rather than hiding here as a child’s pet.
As Peter Pettigrew was lost in his fantasies, a voice suddenly rang out.
"Obliviate!"
A look of terror appeared on Peter's face, and he lost consciousness in the next second.
Ivan put down his wand, picked up the rat on the ground, and left the Room of Requirement.
Ivan, who knew Peter all too well, had no intention of taking on this new servant.
No matter how obsequious Peter was, he could never wash away the stain of betraying his best friends. Ivan couldn't trust such a person!
Not to mention, Peter was just too ugly!
So, sorry, but no!
The day passed in a flash. After the last class, Ivan put on his Invisibility Cloak and gathered his Potion ingredients. After confirming everything was in order, he headed towards an empty classroom.
Hermione had arrived early, sitting to one side and flipping through a book, completely unaware of Ivan's approach.
"Decoding Dark Magic? When did you get interested in this kind of book?" Ivan asked curiously, remembering that Hermione never read these dark magic books.
"Ah, Ivan? You're here", the young witch, who had been engrossed in her book, was startled and quickly closed it with a thud before speaking.
Ivan shook his head, not minding that Hermione was secretly reading a dark magic book. It was normal for someone her age to be curious about forbidden things, and understanding them would help her deal with them in the future.
With that thought, Ivan walked over to a corner and began brewing a Potion, preparing to use the same trick. But when the Strong Sleeping Draught was nearly complete, Hermione continued to flip through her book, showing no signs of drowsiness.
Ivan rubbed his head, suddenly remembering that Hermione had been resting well lately, and the scent of the Potion alone wasn't enough to make her fall asleep.
Perhaps he could secretly add a bit of the Elixir of Life and Death to the Energizing Tonic and make her drink it?
Ivan considered various schemes in his mind, but none of them seemed very safe and could easily be discovered.
At that moment, Hermione stopped her actions and walked over with the book, about to say something when she noticed the Potion in the cauldron.
"Ivan, are you brewing the Elixir of Life and Death?" Hermione looked at Ivan suspiciously. She remembered smelling this Potion before she accidentally fell asleep the other day.
And she was certain that she had seen Ivan leave at some point, otherwise, the note wouldn't have been in her hand when she woke up.
Seeing Hermione's expression becoming more and more suspicious, Ivan felt a headache coming on. Smart people were the worst. Since he couldn't completely hide it, Ivan decided to probe.
"Hermione, I need to use the Time Turner for something. Can you lend it to me for a while?"
Hermione immediately became even more convinced that Ivan had been the one to put her to sleep last time. She gave him a disapproving look but still unhooked the Time Turner from her neck and held it in her hand.
However, Hermione didn't immediately hand it over. Instead, she looked at him seriously and said, "But you promised that whenever you use the Time Turner, you would take me with you."
"Not this time!" Ivan said sternly. In Knockturn Alley, even he couldn't guarantee his own safety, let alone a third-year young witch.
