Chapter 312: Ya Ci's Plan, Arrival of the Electric-type Pokemon!
Chapter 312: Ya Ci's Plan, Arrival of the Electric-type Pokemon!
Naoki asked Dan Di to wait in the living room while he went to the wine cellar to retrieve a few cups of freshly brewed fruit wine, which he presented to Dan Di in a row.
Dan Di's attention was immediately captured by the wines, with their enticing aromas of fruit.
"So, these are the magical tree fruit wines you brew?" he asked.
Naoki nodded and introduced each one: "The one on the left is the Pecha Wine. Pokemon that drink it will gain increased resistance to Poison-type attacks."
"The middle one is the Cheri Wine. Like the Pecha Wine, it enhances a Pokemon's paralysis resistance. If a Pokemon consumes it and is hit by an opponent's move like Electroweb or Stun Spore, they will have a lower chance of being paralyzed."
"As for the one on the right, it's the Leppa Wine. After drinking it, a Pokemon's body will feel warmer, making it less likely to fall into a Frozen state."
Hearing about these beverages, Dan Di couldn't help but widen his eyes, his face filled with disbelief.
"These... these wines really have such effects?!"
Fruit wines were sold in some stores in the Galar region, so they weren't uncommon to Dan Di.
What surprised him were the effects that these particular wines could bring about.
After all, some strict trainers put their Pokemon through rigorous special training to increase their resistance and endurance against other attributes.
For example, they might make a Fire-type Pokemon that fears water swim in a river or have a Poison-type Pokemon endure being poisoned to toughen it up.
Now, it seemed that according to Naoki, Pokemon could become stronger without having to go through such grueling regimens.
Dan Di couldn't help but look up at Naoki.
Naoki smiled and nodded, "That's right. As the first trainer to pass the Green Trial, you deserve these rewards."
Green Trial... Dan Di recalled the original trial rules that Naoki had mentioned earlier. "Do I really qualify as having passed?"
One Ride Pokemon Gogoat could be handled, two Ride Pokemon Gogoat would be a challenging victory, but facing three simultaneously would be no easy feat.
Sensing Dan Di's thoughts, Naoki sighed, "I didn't think things through properly at first, so I plan to modify the challenge rules going forward."
The stages would remain the same, but challengers only needed to defeat one Ride Pokemon Gogoat to earn a reward and qualify for the next stage, which involved battling two Ride Pokemon Gogoat.
If they succeeded in the second stage, he would acknowledge their strength and offer an even rarer dish as a reward.
And so on.
"I see!" Dan Di exclaimed, a cheerful smile spreading across his face. "Thank you!"
Naoki presented the three bottles of fruit wine, "From now on, they are yours. It's up to you to decide which Pokemon to give them to."
Without hesitation, Dan Di fed the wines to his Pokemon, including Duraludon, Charizard, and Axew.
Seeing his Pokemon full of vigor and showing no signs of weakness, Dan Di was once again amazed at the effects of the goat milk.
"Is that milk really produced by the Ride Pokemon Gogoat?"
"Yes." Naoki nodded slightly. "In the Hisui region, it has a beautiful name—Life Milk."
"This milk has the effect of instantly restoring a Pokemon's stamina. Even Dark-type injuries that Pokemon Centers can't heal can be cured by Life Milk."
"I never imagined that such milk could exist in this world!" Dan Di exclaimed, overwhelmed with astonishment.
At this point, Naoki suddenly remembered something.
He asked casually, "Do you know the Unova region's Champion, Alder?"
"Alder?" Dan Di was slightly taken aback.
Naoki explained, "I heard from the Chief that Alder's Volcarona has become very weak due to overexertion in battles. I think this milk might be able to help it."
Dan Di immediately understood Naoki's implication.
After a brief pause, he grinned and said, "Although I'm not very familiar with Alder, when I return to the Galar region, I'll contact the Unova League and have Alder come here!"
Naoki is such a kind trainer! Dan Di thought to himself. Not only is he strong, but he's also willing to help others proactively. It would be great if there were more people like him in the Galar region.
"Thank you for your help with this," Naoki expressed his gratitude.
"No problem at all," Dan Di replied, his eyes shining with anticipation. "If any of my Pokemon ever sustain an incurable injury, you'll help me too, right?"
"I will!"
Afterwards, Naoki chatted with Dan Di about other things.
They talked about the newly crowned Pokemon, the shrine on the back mountain, and more.
When the topic turned to the newly crowned Pokemon, Dan Di took out a small wooden carving from his pocket and showed it to Naoki.
"An old man in town recommended I buy this souvenir when I first arrived," he said, "To be honest, I was quite surprised when I saw it. I never expected the newly crowned Pokemon to be so famous in the Paldea region!"
Hearing this, Naoki glanced at the wooden carving, unsure of what to say.
"Because the newly crowned Pokemon performed a miracle on the back mountain not long ago, the Paldea League built a shrine for it there to show their gratitude."
"Amazing!" Dan Di exclaimed, filled with admiration for such a powerful Pokemon.
He carefully put away the wooden carving and planned to buy a few more as souvenirs to take back to the Galar region for Hop, Sonia, Chairman Rose, and his master's family.
The conversation then turned to the various trials on the ranch.
Dan Di seemed quite interested in them.
So, Naoki took the time to explain a few of the trials in detail.
"So far, there are four trials on this ranch: the Ride Gogoat's Grassland Trial, the Noivern's Storm Trial, the Diggersby's Electric Trial, and the Alcremie's Finger Wag Trial."
"Finger Wag Trial?" Dan Di could understand the first two, but the third one sounded a bit odd.
Naoki nodded, "Yes, the Finger Wag Trial. Only Pokemon that can use the move 'Finger Wag' are eligible to participate, and they can only use that single move during the trial."
"Compared to the other trials, this one is more about luck, but those who pass will still receive a reward."
"A trial of luck? That sounds interesting! It's a shame I don't have any Pokemon that can use Finger Wag." Dan Di couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed.
There were so many novel things on this ranch that he wanted to experience them all.
Fortunately, his Pokemon had fully recovered their energy.
With that in mind, Dan Di looked eager to take on the Storm and Electric Trials.
Just then, his pocket began to beep.
Naoki's attention was drawn to the sound, and he watched as Dan Di pulled out a small, fiery-red device similar to a pager.
Dan Di pressed a button, and the next second, a young voice came from the device.
"Big brother! Where did you go? The Galar League has been looking all over for you! They even came to our house!"
Dan Di felt a bit guilty and cleared his throat before responding, "I'm coming back now. I'll contact Chairman Rose and the others later. Oh, and Hop, I got you an amazing gift this time!"
"What gift? You're the best, big brother!" The young voice on the other end was filled with excitement.
Dan Di grinned, "It's a secret!"
"Ah?" The other party sounded disappointed.
"You'll know when I get back. That's all for now, goodbye!"
With that, Dan Di hung up the call.
"Your little brother?" Naoki asked, surprised.
Dan Di nodded, "Yes! That kid is a worrywart. I bet he's been fretting ever since I left Galar."
So it was Hop, Naoki thought to himself.
"Well, I should be heading back too. I've spent too much time away, and there's still a lot to do back in Galar!"
Dan Di stood up, glancing at his Duraludon and the newly crowned Pokemon in the distance, feeling a bit regretful. He turned to Naoki.
"Remember, next time I come, I expect you to bring your full strength for a battle! I've been looking forward to it!"
Naoki: "..."
Just you wait! He decided to ask Saltrock to teach the Ride Gogoat how to use Rock Slide, so they could regain their confidence after facing Charizard.
Before leaving, Dan Di purchased a few bottles of goat milk to take back to the Galar region as a keepsake.
As Naoki watched Dan Di's departing figure riding on Charizard, he silently wished for him to have a safe journey back to the Galar region, hoping he wouldn't get lost again.
Unbeknownst to them, midday had arrived.
Naoki was just about to head back and prepare lunch for everyone when he heard the sound of an incoming video call.
He answered it, and Ya Ci's face appeared on the screen.
Ya Ci smiled slightly, her tone filled with curiosity. "How did it go? Did he battle you? Who won?"
"Dan Di won," Naoki answered helplessly. "He challenged the Grassland Trial here and used a Charizard, which has a type advantage over Gogoat, to defeat my two Ride Gogoat."
Ya Ci also had a Ride Gogoat, and she knew that Gogoat-type Pokemon were especially afraid of Fire and Flying-type Pokemon like Charizard.
"However, you did very well. Defeating two of the Galar Champion's Pokemon is impressive." Ya Ci smiled approvingly. "You truly are the talented person I recognized!"
"..." Naoki fell silent, unsure how to respond to Ya Ci's assumption.
Ya Ci began to ponder the Grassland Trial on Naoki's ranch, having experienced it herself.
She knew that the trial could indeed help challengers hone their skills and improve.
With that in mind, she contemplated sending all the Gym Leaders from the Paldea region to undergo special training at Naoki's ranch.
As she thought about it, Ya Ci felt this idea could work, so she shared her proposal with Naoki.
Finally, she asked for his opinion, "What do you think?"
"Well, I imagine the Gym Leaders are usually quite busy, aren't they? I recall seeing Aoki taking on multiple jobs, working himself to the point of hair loss," Naoki replied.
"They are indeed busy most of the time," Ya Ci acknowledged with a slight cough. "However, each year, the Gym Leaders are allowed some time off from their duties, during which they don't have to stay at the Gyms and can take a break from battling challengers."
"...That's ruthless of the Paldea League, taking advantage of their vacation time like that," Naoki commented.
"I can't really give any advice on this matter," he added, feeling conflicted. Part of him was curious and wanted to meet the Gym Leaders from the Paldea region.
The students at the Paldea Academy varied in skill, and there were many novice trainers among them, so they might not always be able to help Babutsu and Quick Dragon gain the experience they needed.
But if the Gym Leaders were to come...
He figured it would be a great opportunity to harvest experience from these "reaper-level" Gym Leaders and help Babutsu and Quick Dragon improve their battle techniques, becoming even stronger.
With these thoughts in mind, Naoki continued, "However, challengers are always welcome here at the ranch."
Upon hearing this, a smile appeared on Ya Ci's face. "Then it's settled! I'll consider it a special mission for them. I might as well use this opportunity to enhance the overall strength of our Gym Leaders!"
"And then, we can show off to those travelers and trainers from other regions that Paldea has the most talented and powerful Gym Leaders!" she added enthusiastically.
As for Naoki and his ranch, she thought of them as a hidden boss of the Paldea region, and she was more than happy to have other trainers come and challenge them.
Although Naoki was unaware of Ya Ci's thoughts, he could vaguely guess what she might be planning.
However, he was just a simple farmer and couldn't influence the decisions of the Paldea region's top champion.
After hanging up, Naoki decided to go and check on the Gogoat, intending to encourage them and boost their morale.
As he stepped out of the house, he felt a shadow looming over him. Looking up, he saw a sharp-eyed and proud-looking bird Pokemon with sleek feathers descending before him.
It was... an Zapdos?! Naoki's eyes widened in disbelief.
Riding on the Zapdos were Teddiursa and Mew, who quickly jumped down as soon as they landed.
Teddiursa leaped into Naoki's arms, giving him a quick hug before jumping back down.
This must be the Zapdos that the Adventurer's Squad had befriended at the power plant, Naoki thought to himself.
As he looked away from the Zapdos, he turned to Teddiursa and Mew, surprised by their sudden return. "How did you guys get back so quickly?"
"Mia!"
After a brief embrace, Teddiursa and Mew introduced their new friend to Naoki, gesturing excitedly.
"Mew~" (We invited our new friend to join us at the ranch and live together!)
