Chapter 312: The City Will Transform into a Dueling Metropolis
Chapter 312: The City Will Transform into a Dueling Metropolis
"Here," Guiping said as he handed a briefcase to You Xuan. He smiled and added, "Now you should have everything you need for your 'Imperial' deck."
You Xuan opened the case to check its contents and nodded in satisfaction before closing it again. "Thanks. I think that should just about do it."
The early versions of the deck focused on the eight great Imperial Kings—Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, Lightning, Evil, Light, and Darkness. However, You Xuan was well aware that this deck had immense room for improvement and future potential.
The fact that this deck, which had no basis in the anime, continued to receive new card support even after so many years was a testament to its immense popularity.
In the future, each of the Imperial Kings would have even more advanced evolutionary forms, and they would be supported by their own lower-level retainers. Not to mention, there would also be dedicated field and trap cards for each attribute.
At least at the current stage, the deck's potential was limitless. As a future-proof deck, it relied solely on advanced summons and did not involve any summoning methods that had not yet been discovered. It was definitely a series worth investing research efforts into.
You Xuan had already established a dedicated project team to develop this aspect and had provided guidance on the possible upgrade paths for each Imperial King and their respective support cards that he could recall.
Currently, his laboratory was collaborating with the world's leading Imperial development department, delving into Imperial-related research. The trap card "Dark Advanced Summon" that he had used earlier was one of the latest fruits of their labor.
Technically speaking, "Dark Advanced Summon" was not part of the Imperial series as it did not have the "Imperial" attribute. However, the trap card's effect specifically targeted monsters with "2400 Attack and 1000 Defense," which was a clear reference to the Imperial Kings. So, it could be considered half a part of the Imperial series.
"By the way, about that classmate I mentioned before," You Xuan recalled something.
"Oh, you mean Judai Yuki?" Guiping nodded, "Don't worry, I've informed the committee, and they will allocate a spot for him."
He paused, then continued curiously, "But it's quite rare for you to specifically request special treatment for a classmate. Are you very close friends?"
"Haha, I guess you could say that. But it's not just because of our friendship that I recommended him. He's also an incredibly skilled duelist," You Xuan smiled, "Who knows, he might even catch the eye of the CEO."
"Is he that impressive?" Guiping asked, puzzled. "I thought he was just a member of the Osiris Red dorm."
"Well, you could say he's a bit of an oddball," You Xuan shrugged, "And besides, I'm still in the Yellow dorm."
"Fair enough," Guiping nodded, deciding not to probe further.
"Alright, it's almost time for the opening ceremony," Guiping stood up and smiled, "Let's head over to the ceremony."
"By the way, I've been wondering," You Xuan said, perplexed. "Isn't there supposed to be a venue for the opening ceremony? They just told us to arrive at Domino, but no specific address was given."
"Well..."
Guiping smiled mysteriously.
"You'll find out soon enough."
You Xuan was initially confused by Guiping's response, but he soon understood what he meant.
As the countdown reached its end, Kaiba suddenly appeared before them, and even You Xuan was startled by the dramatic entrance. He had to admit that not many things could surprise him in this world where even ghosts played cards.
It was like the special effects that appeared when a monster was summoned—a swirling vortex, followed by a dazzling golden light.
"Not exactly," Guiping said with a smile. "While it is a virtual image, it's not a hologram. It's being projected directly into your brain."
"What?" You Xuan said, surprised.
However, having experienced some of Kaiba Corporation's technology first-hand, he soon figured out what technique they were employing. It was the Duel Imaging technology used in the movies. By interacting with the memory region of the duelist's brain through the Duel Disk, it could project images directly into their minds.
So, Kaiba was now appearing before all the contestants in a similar manner to monster projections.
"To all duelists who have arrived in this Duel City, I welcome you here in my capacity as the host," Kaiba said, his arms folded.
"Each of you is a battle-hardened warrior who has earned your place in this arena through your own strength and accomplishments. But this is just the beginning." Kaiba took a step forward and declared in a loud voice, "From this moment on, this city transforms into a battleground! It shall become a stage for dueling, where your decks are the only swords you can rely on. Only those who survive to the end will ascend to the pinnacle!"
He raised his Duel Disk, indicating his own deck. "However, this is not the first Duel City tournament, so I presume you are all familiar with the rules. The winner of a duel can claim a rare card from the loser, chosen by the winner."
As expected, the card-gambling rule.
You Xuan narrowed his eyes. This rule had been in place since the first Duel City tournament. It was originally instituted by Kaiba to win the three God Cards, and it had been retained as a unique feature of the Duel City competitions ever since.
Duelists who lacked confidence in their skills or were unwilling to gamble their rare cards would not participate in this event.
"Damn, that means I can't afford to lose at all," You Xuan sighed.
"There you go again," Guiping laughed. "Acting like you ever planned to lose in the first place."
Kaiba continued his explanation. "Only the first eight duelists to emerge victorious from the city-wide free-for-all will qualify for the finals. The location of the finals is hidden somewhere within this city."
Kaiba smirked. "Of course, I don't know where it is myself. And don't bother trying to guess based on previous tournament locations, because the venue changes every time. Each of you will receive a piece of a specially designed jigsaw puzzle card from the organizers. Only the first person to collect all six pieces and overlay them will be able to reveal the complete map, showing the path to the finals venue."
You Xuan was not surprised. The rules were almost identical to those of the first Duel City tournament.
"Oh, and one more thing," Kaiba continued in a casual tone. "This edition of Duel City will also feature an additional rule."
"The winner of this Duel City tournament," Kaiba said calmly, "will earn the long-vacant title of 'King of Games.'"
