Chapter 312: Taking the Bandit Camp (Part 2)
Chapter 312: Taking the Bandit Camp (Part 2)
September 25th, 2017
For Lu HaiKong and his forces, this campaign to take down the bandit camp was never in doubt from the very beginning.
Lu HaiKong and Ye Junru had always intended to minimize casualties on both sides and secure victory from the outset.
So, it was no surprise that Lu HaiKong's Elite Guard captured 1,500 Elite Bandit Guards and over 3,000 low-level units, despite Lu HaiKong's forces appearing to be evenly matched in Strength with the bandits, except for the 400 Elite Bandit Guards.
Victory in war is determined by many factors: the strength of the soldiers, the generals leading them, and their tactics.
Lu HaiKong's side first disrupted the enemy formation with traps, then counterattacked. Lu HaiKong, Cheng Yi, and Pan Feng, with their superior Strength, swiftly eliminated the enemy commanders, effectively decapitating the opposing force and significantly reducing their combat effectiveness.
With such an advantage, what challenge could there be in taking down 5,000 bandits with just 1,500 soldiers?
Lu HaiKong did achieve victory, but it came at a cost of several hundred casualties. After all, the bandits were mostly Elite-level guards, and their combat prowess was not to be underestimated.
Fortunately, most of the casualties were among the regular Bandit Guards, with only a small portion being Elite-level.
Despite the losses, there were gains as well. Lu HaiKong's Bandit Guards gained significant experience from this battle, and with the capture of this Mega Fort, they would surely advance in rank.
After defeating over 5,000 bandits, Lu HaiKong's forces took a short break before leisurely marching towards the Mega Fort.
Lu HaiKong wasn't worried about Ye Junru's situation; the Mega Fort had around 20,000 to 30,000 bandits, with the Elite-level guards being mostly low-level units, and the mid-level units numbering only 1,500.
Lu HaiKong's forces had already eliminated over 5,000 bandits, and during the previous siege and tactical stalemate, they had also taken out a significant number of regular low-level bandits. With Lu HaiKong's arrival, Ye Junru's forces were likely in the final stages of mopping up the remaining bandits.
Lu HaiKong's prediction was accurate; by the time he arrived, the Yellow Turban Warriors had descended from the defensive walls, pushing the Mega Fort's Assembly Hall into a dire situation.
The battle was not yet over, as Zhou Cang was still fighting several Bandit Leaders outside the Assembly Hall.
Most of these leaders had a Strength of 70, but one of them clearly possessed a Strength above 80, making it a lopsided battle as Zhou Cang effortlessly fought against them.
"It seems this battle is coming to an end," Lu HaiKong said, joining Ye Junru and observing Zhou Cang's fight with a hint of reluctance.
"How's it going over there?" Ye Junru smiled.
"I'm here now, so of course it's going well."
The two chatted casually, their eyes on the ongoing battle below. Both were satisfied with their collaboration so far, but the real test of their partnership was about to begin.
The massive bandit fort was on the verge of being conquered, and the fruits of this campaign were about to be reaped. The distribution of these spoils would be a challenging test for both parties involved.
After this battle, it was clear that Lu HaiKong's side had the upper hand, but Ye Junru's side had discovered the fort, and the allocation of rewards was indeed a tricky matter. Despite Lu HaiKong's initial offer to take nothing in return, Ye Junru also stated that Lu HaiKong could choose three items freely.
If both parties were solely concerned with personal gain, the stronger one would naturally claim the larger share. However, it was evident that they wanted to use this opportunity to further their cooperation.
Currently, neither side was focused on maximizing their individual gains but rather on reaching a mutually satisfying agreement. This was no easy task, and Ye Junru's side faced the more challenging dilemma. Lu HaiKong, on the other hand, seemed relaxed, as he had already anticipated this situation.
Zhou Cang, a renowned historical warrior, swiftly dealt with the fort's leader and a few minor enemies.
Within minutes of Lu HaiKong and Ye Junru's conversation, Zhou Cang secured victory in the campaign, and the system prompts followed.
"Congratulations on successfully conquering the bandit fort! You have gained 5 million skill experience and obtained a Golden Chest."
"677 of your Mountain Bandit Guards have reached the maximum experience level and advanced to the Elite unit."
"Through this arduous battle, you have grasped the essence of leadership. Your Leadership value has increased, and your current Leadership is at 60."
With a Golden Chest in hand and most of the remaining Mountain Bandit Guards advancing to the Elite unit, Lu HaiKong's Leadership value soared to 60 points, a substantial gain.
Lu HaiKong's lips curved into a slight smile as he held the Golden Chest, ready to bid farewell to Ye Junru, who was still in a daze. Just then, another system prompt arrived.
"One of your Elite-level Mountain Bandit Guards has reached the maximum level and can advance to a higher-tier unit or become a Bandit Leader. Please make a choice."
Upon hearing this system prompt, Lu HaiKong was momentarily stunned. He scanned his troops and quickly spotted the Mountain Bandit Guard enveloped in golden light.
After a quick inspection, he confirmed the guard's exceptional status.
"Advance to Bandit Leader!" Lu HaiKong declared without hesitation.
Though the higher-tier unit sounded appealing, it was just one person. What difference could it make? This guard had fought their way up from a regular Mountain Bandit Guard, and Lu HaiKong saw no reason to deny them the chance to become a general.
As Lu HaiKong made his choice, the golden light around the guard dimmed, and the guard's advancement concluded.
"Your Mountain Bandit Guard has successfully advanced to a Bandit Leader."
Lu HaiKong immediately cast an Identification Spell on the guard as the system message arrived.
