Chapter 312: Scabbers' Infinite Loop of Hell
Chapter 312: Scabbers' Infinite Loop of Hell
Where am I?
Hermione blinked, and the surroundings were pitch black, with a faint, peculiar smell of Potion lingering in the air.
The drowsy young witch almost thought she was still dreaming.
Then, memories gradually flooded back, and a piercing scream suddenly echoed through the empty classroom.
In the next moment, the glaring lights came on, and the dim classroom was instantly illuminated. Hermione instinctively closed her eyes and huddled into the corner of the bed, pulling the blanket around her.
"Hermione, did you sleep well?"
A familiar voice sounded nearby. Hermione opened her eyes again and saw Ivan sitting in the corner of the room, brewing a Potion.
"Ivan, why am I here? I mean, why am I sleeping on a bed?" Hermione blushed and curled up, stammering.
The young witch vaguely remembered that she should have been reading in the classroom.
Ivan put down his work, turned around, and said, "Don't you remember? You were reading and got too tired, so you fell asleep on the table. I thought you might have been too exhausted these past few days, so I didn't wake you up."
"Then, then why is there a bed here?" Hermione recalled and realized they were indeed in the classroom.
"Of course, I transfigured it to make you more comfortable", Ivan said with a smile.
"You should have woken me up", Hermione said, hugging the blanket, feeling a bit embarrassed. Although she was fully clothed, lying in bed while Ivan watched her felt a bit strange.
Ivan shook his head without answering and turned back to continue brewing the Potion.
Hermione quickly got out of bed. As she pulled the blanket, she noticed something in her right hand. She brought it to her eyes and saw it was a piece of paper.
Confused, Hermione looked at Ivan. There was only her and Ivan in the classroom, so it must have been Ivan who put it there.
But why not say it to her directly?
Hermione unfolded the paper and was immediately stunned by its content.
[Restricted Section, thirteenth row, ninth shelf, "Unveiling Dark Magic"]
What did this mean? Was she supposed to go to the thirteenth row, ninth shelf in the Restricted Section and get a book called "Unveiling Dark Magic"?
Hermione glanced at Ivan but then realized that the note couldn't have been from him.
Who could it be from?
Looking at the handwriting, the young witch had a hunch. Just then, Ivan's voice came over.
"Hermione, aren't you coming down? I'm leaving."
"Uh, yeah", Hermione quickly crumpled the paper and stuffed it into her robes, then got out of bed and put on her shoes.
Ivan waved his wand, and the soft bed twisted and decomposed into several square tables, returning to their original positions.
The chairs, cauldrons, and Potion ingredients stacked in the corner also floated up and neatly landed on the tables, making a tinkling sound like a musical performance.
Ivan's fluid spellcasting left Hermione in awe; she had never known that casting spells could be so effortless and graceful.
"Alright, let's go!"
After tidying up the classroom, Ivan turned and left, walking with Hermione back to the Gryffindor common room. They then parted ways to their respective dormitories.
Upon entering, Ivan found Harry and Ron in the dorm, discussing the recent Quidditch practice.
Hearing the noise, both turned around, and Ron said, "Perfect timing, we were just talking about you, Ivan!"
"What are you talking about?" Ivan was a bit puzzled.
"Today, while I was at the training grounds, I saw the Hufflepuff team captain, Diggory. When he heard that you’ve quit the Gryffindor team this year, he was over the moon", Harry said.
"Even without me, they don’t stand much of a chance! You’re the best Seeker at Hogwarts", Ivan patted Harry’s shoulder, not wanting Wood to suddenly get a wild idea and ask him to play in the match.
"I hope so", Harry shook his head, lacking confidence. He had heard that the Hufflepuff Seeker was also quite good, and he always had a sense of foreboding.
Ivan vaguely remembered that the match would be disrupted by Dementors, but since it was still half a month away, he skipped over this topic and asked instead.
"By the way, Harry! Can I borrow your Invisibility Cloak for a few days?"
"What do you need it for?" Harry asked curiously.
"I’m planning to go to Hogsmeade to buy some Potion ingredients", Ivan casually made up a reason.
Harry didn’t ask further, rummaging through his trunk and pulling out the silver-gray, fluid-like fabric.
"Here you go!" Harry handed the Invisibility Cloak to Ivan and added, "But be careful when you go out! Professor Dumbledore said this thing won’t fool Dementors!"
"Come on, you should be more worried about those Dementors", Ron chimed in from the side.
Harry scratched his head, remembering that Ivan had driven away dozens of Dementors on the train. He was right.
"I’ll be careful!" Ivan nodded, tucking the Invisibility Cloak away.
At midnight, in the Gryffindor dormitory, after everyone had fallen into a deep sleep, a gray-black rat opened its eyes and struggled to climb down from the bed.
As it reached the door, Peter had a vague sense of déjà vu.
If he turned his head now, would he see someone watching him in the dark?
This thought flashed through Peter’s mind, and then a low voice sounded behind him.
"Very good, you were quick today."
Peter felt a chill run down his spine. Before he could think, a spell hit him, and his body went limp.
Ivan skillfully grabbed Peter by the tail and carried him out of the dormitory.
Peter, realizing he was captured again, struggled in terror, wondering why he thought of the word "again."
A few minutes later, in the Potion storage room of the Room of Requirement, Peter, having transformed back, was trembling and curled up in a corner, watching Ivan approach.
"Hals, you might not know, but I was a good comrade with your father. We fought side by side."
"Enough! You say this every time, I can recite it by heart. Are you going to talk about Sirius next?" Ivan interrupted Peter, shaking the Potion vial in his hand and continued.
"Come on, it’s time to take the Potion. Are you going to drink it yourself, or should I help you?"
