Chapter 312: Dementors Attack (Third Update)
Chapter 312: Dementors Attack (Third Update)
In the past, whenever Jerry rode the train, he usually sat with Hermione. At that time, his mind was free of distractions, so he found it quite normal.
However, ever since he became aware of Hermione's feelings, and possibly because his young body had made his heart feel younger as well, even the slightest physical contact caused his heart to race.
"Hey, look who it is!"
At that moment, a lazy, drawn-out voice suddenly came from the compartment door.
Then, the door opened, and pale-faced Draco, along with Crabbe and Goyle, who had bulked up even more since the holidays, appeared at the entrance.
"Draco, Goyle, Crabbe, what brings you here?"
Jerry turned and smiled at them.
"Nothing, nothing, we just haven't seen everyone in a while, so we came to say hello. Now that we've said hello, we'll be on our way. Jerry, you guys chat, goodbye!"
Draco's attitude did a complete 180 as soon as he saw Jerry sitting in the compartment. He waved friendly and quickly left with his two cronies.
As the leader of Slytherin and Professor Snape's favorite student, Draco Malfoy didn't want to appear too rude in front of Jerry.
"He only manages to be polite in front of you!"
Seeing Draco leave so easily, Ron couldn't resist a few sarcastic remarks in Draco's direction.
"Actually, he's not a bad person at heart. His family environment has just shaped some negative traits. I believe that after living with me for another two years in the dormitory, he'll change for the better."
Jerry explained with a smile.
"Cake, Every Flavor Beans, Chocolate Frog. Anyone want some?"
Not long after the Malfoy Trio left, the voice of a plump witch pushing a snack cart echoed through the compartment.
The four of them looked at the time and realized it was already past one o'clock.
"I'll treat you all to some snacks!"
Noticing Hermione's body leaning closer, Jerry hurriedly got up and pushed open the compartment door to buy snacks.
A few minutes later, he returned with a large pile of various snacks and placed them on the table.
The trip to Greece had cost him quite a few Galleons, but with his Quidditch player salary and occasional sales of rare herbs, high-level potions, and Acromantula venom, he still had plenty of Galleons to spare.
"Wow, being a national Quidditch player must be amazing!"
Seeing Jerry bring back a large pile of snacks, Ron jumped up excitedly.
"Hermione, your favorite cauldron cake!"
After placing the snacks on the table, Jerry picked up a wrapped cauldron cake and handed it to Hermione, who was sitting beside him.
Having spent so much time studying and researching magic with Hermione, he knew exactly what snacks she liked.
"Thanks, here's the chocolate I've already unwrapped for you!"
Hermione took the cauldron cake from Jerry and immediately fed him a piece of chocolate she had just unwrapped.
At the beginning, because the Mind Refresh spell was particularly energy-consuming, Jerry always kept chocolate on hand while studying magic with Hermione to replenish his energy.
Seeing this, Harry and Ron suddenly felt that the snacks they were eating didn't taste as good as before.
As time passed, the train continued its journey north, and the weather began to change. The clear sky suddenly darkened with a large cloud cover.
Swish
A torrential downpour suddenly poured from the sky, turning the view outside the window into a gray, watery blur. The lights in the corridor and on the train frame flickered on immediately.
At the same moment, Hermione, who had "fallen asleep with her eyes closed", unconsciously leaned her head on Jerry's shoulder.
Seeing this, Jerry sat up straight, remaining motionless to avoid waking Hermione.
Around three or four o'clock, the train suddenly began to slow down. Ron immediately stood up, excited:
"Awesome, I'm sure we're almost there!"
"That's impossible, it's only four."
Hermione's eyes snapped open as she contradicted him.
Harry looked at Hermione with some surprise:
"Weren't you asleep?"
"Oh, right. I was asleep, but Ron's voice was too loud and woke me up!"
Hermione explained, her face slightly red.
In reality, she hadn't been asleep at all. She had just pretended to sleep, using it as an excuse to lean on Jerry's shoulder. She would occasionally squint to check the time on the wall opposite, estimating how long she could comfortably lean there.
Clunk!
At that moment, the train came to a sudden stop. The sound of the wheels disappeared, leaving only the rain pounding against the window glass.
"What's going on?"
Ron suddenly exclaimed in alarm, as all the lights in the train car went out, plunging the train into darkness.
"Lumos!"
The moment the lights went out, Jerry took out his wand and cast a Lumos spell. With a flick of the wand, he sent a fist-sized ball of light to the top of the carriage, restoring the light.
"Hmm, Jerry, you can use Lumos like that?"
Hermione let out a light exclamation when she saw Jerry fix the light from the tip of his wand to the top of the carriage, as the Lumos spell she had learned didn't have this application.
"I made some improvements. If you want to learn, I can teach you!"
Jerry smiled.
Hermione nodded immediately; she was very interested in this new magic.
"Why did the train stop? Is it broken?"
"I don't know."
At this moment, the young wizards outside the carriage began to chatter nervously.
Jerry glanced out the window and faintly saw a group of tall figures queuing up to board the train. A smile appeared on his face:
"Dementors? I've been waiting for you!"
These dark creatures, which grow stronger by draining human happiness and souls, can only be harmed by the Patronus Charm, which also has a mental attack component. Physical and most magical attacks are ineffective against them.
He wouldn't let such powerful creatures slip away.
"Hey, you guys are lit up. What happened?"
The door to the carriage was pushed open, and a somewhat panicked Neville and Ginny walked in.
Jerry stood up with his wand and moved to the doorway:
"It seems something has boarded the train. It looks like Dementors. You should come in and hide behind me!"
"Dementors!"
At the sound of these words, everyone's body trembled. Ginny quickly slipped under Jerry's arm and sat next to Hermione, while Neville squeezed in next to Ron.
Dementors, the guardians of Azkaban, have become a well-known terror among witches and wizards since Sirius Black's escape from Azkaban.
"Oh, Neville, you really need to lose some weight!"
Ron's complaining voice came from behind Jerry.
"Maybe they were sent by the Ministry of Magic to search for Sirius Black. They'll leave once they've finished their search."
Hermione's voice trembled as she tried to reassure them.
