Chapter 311: Explosive Acting Skills
Chapter 311: Explosive Acting Skills
With the help of the Live-Point Map, Albert easily located Isabelle in the library, where she was indeed working on her holiday assignment.
Albert went straight to the library to find her, standing at the entrance and scanning the area. Finally, he spotted the red-haired girl in a corner, struggling with a paper.
He quietly walked over, tapped lightly on the table twice, and placed the envelope from Professor Snape in front of her. In a voice that only the two of them could hear, he said, "A letter from Professor Snape. Stay vigilant."
Albert's actions, though light, still attracted the curious glances of a few people nearby.
Isabelle glanced at the envelope, then looked up at Albert's departing back, silently chewing on his words in her mind.
"Could it be a love letter?" Isabelle's female companion curiously stared at the letter and winked at her friend. "I heard Anderson is a genius."
"Mhm."
Isabelle opened the letter, quickly read it, and then stuffed it into her pocket. She packed up her things.
Another girl joined them, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. She whispered, "You two aren't really dating, are you?"
"I think you know each other, right?"
"And I always see you together."
"If he confesses to you, you should accept him. You two seem like a good match."
"Mind your own business," Isabelle said as she picked up her backpack. "I have something to do. I'll head out first."
"If you don't want him, I'll confess to him myself and pursue him," the other girl joked.
However, Isabelle was already too far away to hear her teasing.
"She's long gone."
"I'm serious."
Isabelle didn't go directly to the Dark Magic Defense office. Instead, she returned to the Ravenclaw dormitory to put down her schoolbag before heading to the Dark Magic Defense office to find Professor Snape.
Isabelle's situation was very similar to Albert's. As soon as she entered, she fell under the control of Snape's Imperius Curse and easily gave up her wand.
Albert felt annoyed. He had told her to stay vigilant, yet she seemed to be following in his footsteps. Had his words been in vain? Or should he have been clearer before?
Professor Snape surveyed the two gifted young witches and wizards from Hogwarts with a faint smile on his face, a smile that Albert found repulsive for some reason, prompting an urge to punch the old man.
What a hypocritical old man.
"Now, let's go into the Forbidden Forest to search for Gryffindor's secret treasure!" Rowena Snape said. "The two of you, head into the Forbidden Forest and meet me on the outskirts. Remember to avoid Hagrid and others."
Upon receiving their orders, Albert and Isabelle made their way directly toward the Forbidden Forest on the outskirts of the castle.
Albert didn't dare to speak, fearing he would give himself away. He suspected that Snape might be following them using a Disillusionment Charm.
To be honest, he didn't believe Snape was after the damn Gryffindor secret treasure. If that were the case, he wouldn't have used an Unforgivable Curse on them. Using an Unforgivable Curse on a human was enough to land him a lifetime sentence in Azkaban.
While this statement might be an exaggeration, using the Imperius Curse on Albert and Isabelle was enough to put Professor Snape behind bars for a good number of years.
As Albert pondered this, they had already reached the outskirts of the Forbidden Forest. Hagrid was not in his hunting cabin, which spared them a lot of trouble.
As they waited for Professor Snape to arrive, Albert's gaze happened to meet Isabelle's, and his expression froze.
Isabelle's eyes remained clear, as if she were asking him for help.
Huh? Huh? Huh?! Albert blinked, feeling as though Isabelle was reading his thoughts.
"You're not under the Imperius Curse?"
Albert conveyed his curiosity through his mind.
"No."
Albert was speechless. So, they were all excellent actors, diligently playing their respective roles.
However, Rowena Snape didn't give the two of them any more time for their soulful gaze. Footsteps sounded in the distance, and he dispelled the Disillusionment Charm, appearing not far away. He beckoned for them to continue deeper into the Forbidden Forest, occasionally stopping to refer to the treasure map as if genuinely following the instructions.
Was he really intending to search for Gryffindor's secret treasure?
Albert and Isabelle silently walked ahead, and though he didn't know how far they had gone, the trio had indeed ventured deeper into the Forbidden Forest, the surroundings becoming increasingly eerie.
Isabelle's body suddenly shook violently, as if she were resisting the control of the Imperius Curse, but only for a moment before she regained her composure and turned to face Smith, her voice cold and demanding, "What exactly are you trying to accomplish here?"
"It's nothing, just an invitation to join me in searching for Gryffindor's secret treasure," Smith replied, seemingly unbothered by Isabelle's brief resistance to his curse. He turned his gaze towards Albert, "I assume you've also freed yourself from the Imperius Curse?"
"I'm just curious as to what your true intentions are," Albert asked, his confusion evident, "even if you really wanted to find Gryffindor's secret treasure, was it necessary to go to such lengths?"
"Because he wants us dead," Isabelle said coldly, a bitter smile on her face, "and what have you done to Katrina?"
"Rest assured, I've only erased parts of her memory, and I'm still her beloved Uncle Smith," Smith said, a twisted smile playing on his lips, "when did you manage to break free of my control?"
"Just as we were about to enter the Forbidden Forest," Albert replied without hesitation.
Professor Smith eyed Albert up and down, a curious expression on his face, "Why didn't you try to escape?"
"I assumed you were following close behind, watching our every move!" Albert shook his head, "And I wanted to understand why you're doing all this. What drove you to such madness?"
"If you don't mind, we can chat as we walk," Rowena Smith said, raising his wand and pointing it at the two of them, "Don't try anything foolish. Without your wands, you don't stand a chance."
"I want to know why you're doing this," Albert said, his voice steady as he continued walking in front, "I can't fathom any reason that would justify your actions."
"Of course, there's a reason. The fact that you, with your intelligence, can't figure it out is truly disappointing!"
"Wildsmith?"
"Yes." Smith admitted readily.
"Have you lost your mind?" Albert couldn't comprehend the sickening, twisted smile on Rowena Smith's face.
"He has indeed gone mad!" Isabelle said, her eyes cold as she stared at Smith, "He killed his best friend with his own hands for that elusive treasure, and now he intends to do the same to his daughter."
"No," Smith said, his eyes flashing with anger as he glared at Isabelle, "Brier died in a laboratory accident."
"You used Legilimency on him, didn't you? And erased parts of his memory," Isabelle's tone was icy, devoid of emotion, "You're the one responsible for his death."
"How could you possibly know...?"
"You're a master Legilimens and adept at memory modification, but unfortunately for you, so am I, and I was born with the ability. I got my answers from Uncle Mog, they suspect my father's death is connected to you, although they have no proof. But I do, and you can't be cautious forever. It took me a lot of time and effort, but I found the truth, and it only confirms my suspicions."
"Impressive speculation," Smith said, clapping slowly, "but it truly was an accident. I felt left behind, obsolete, so I wanted to uncover the secrets of Wildsmith, and I dedicated so much time and effort to that pursuit. I just wanted to know why I was cast aside."
"Isabelle's father was also discarded, wasn't he?" Albert interjected.
"You're right, he knew nothing," Smith admitted, "I cast a strong Obliviate spell on him, and unfortunately, he died a week later due to a failed experiment."
"That damn Obliviate curse weakened my father," Isabelle said through gritted teeth, her eyes burning with rage, "and that's what led to his untimely death in a magical experiment gone wrong."
"And what of it?" Smith asked, his voice challenging.
"What of it?" Isabelle echoed, her voice dripping with contempt, "I should... kill you, of course." She whipped out her wand from her pocket and unleashed a spell at Smith without hesitation.
Albert was stunned, but it quickly dawned on him why Isabelle had waited until now. This was the moment she had been biding her time for.
The Forbidden Forest was vast, and even if someone went missing, they'd be hard-pressed to find them. It was the perfect place for a burial ground.
Unfortunately, it seemed all three of them had had the same idea.
