Chapter 310: Why Does This Sound So Familiar?
Chapter 310: Why Does This Sound So Familiar?
The effects of the Strong Joy Potion were powerful, but they did not affect rational thinking. Therefore, this thought lingered in Peter Pettigrew's mind for only a moment before he dismissed it.
He had not forgotten the previous two school years when Ivan used him to experiment with spells.
A small favor like this was not enough to make Peter lower his guard.
No, I can't wait any longer. I have to leave tonight!
Peter made a firm decision in his mind and began to plan his escape for the evening.
However, Peter then felt a vague sense of familiarity with these thoughts.
Had I said this before?
Peter fell into deep contemplation once again.
On the other side, Ron saw Scabbers regain his vitality and finally breathed a sigh of relief, expressing his gratitude to Ivan.
Ivan waved his hand, indicating that this was something he should do.
After all, he was not a devil.
If possible, Ivan certainly hoped that his test subject would be lively and happy during normal times, facing life's challenges with positivity.
Even if this lively and happy appearance was created by the joy Potion, it didn't matter, did it?
As long as he was happy, that was all that mattered!
After a hurried dinner, Ivan walked with Hermione as usual towards a secluded, empty classroom. Harry and Ron, who were already used to the two of them disappearing, did not ask any questions.
Once they reached their secret hideout, Hermione saw the research materials Ivan had placed on the table and asked in surprise.
"Ivan, do you have any leads on the final improvement plan for the Polyjuice Potion?"
Hermione remembered that Ivan was still considering the proportions of several Potions yesterday.
"Yes, Professor Snape gave me a lot of advice. I think we should see some results in the next few days", Ivan nodded, but he left out the fact that Peter Pettigrew had contributed last night.
He then went on to explain in detail the key points of the Potion improvement and the conflicts between the ingredients.
The young witch listened attentively. Over the past few days, it was more like Ivan was teaching her about Potion-making rather than discussing it. In just a few days, Hermione could clearly feel her Potion-making skills improving significantly.
This made Hermione a bit disheartened. She had thought she could definitely help Ivan, but her contribution seemed negligible.
Suddenly, Hermione remembered that Ivan had been trying to figure out what would happen if a Potion user suddenly died while the Potion was still in effect, so she asked.
"By the way, Ivan, have you figured out that problem from last time?"
"Not yet. Snape doesn't seem to know either, but I think if we can improve the stability and duration of the Potion, it should solve the problem", Ivan shook his head, a bit uncertain.
Confirming this was quite difficult. He couldn't just randomly kill people for the sake of an experiment, could he?
So Ivan could only try to enhance the Potion's effectiveness to ensure there would be no issues.
"I see. Then I will definitely figure out this problem!" Hermione said confidently, then sat down in the chair beside him and took out a few Potions books she hadn't read yet to look through them.
Ivan smiled, not really expecting much, as he had already gone through those books and found no relevant information.
But he didn't tell Hermione this, as reading more books was always beneficial.
Ivan turned his attention back to brewing a Potion.
Neither of them spoke again, and the only sounds in the empty classroom were the flipping of pages and the bubbling of the Potion.
It wasn't long before the peculiar smell of the Potion spread throughout the classroom.
Hermione, who was flipping through a book, yawned, a wave of drowsiness washing over her.
Is it because I've been too tired lately?
Hermione rubbed her eyes and thought to herself,
No, now is not the time to sleep!
She forced herself to stay alert and returned to her book, but she could feel her body growing heavier and heavier. She swayed and eventually fell asleep on the desk.
Ivan walked over, looking at the unconscious Hermione, without the slightest hint of surprise.
He had just brewed an improved version of the Strong Sleeping Draught. The scent of this improved Potion could induce drowsiness, which might have limited effects on people with ample energy, but it was different for Hermione.
After all, Hermione had been studying for nearly thirty hours every day for over a month. Even though she took a vial of Restorative Potion every three days, the mental fatigue still existed and couldn't be completely eliminated.
So, he had predicted that Hermione had a high chance of falling asleep while reading.
As for Ivan himself, he had already taken the antidote in advance, so he wasn't affected at all.
"What does it have to do with you, working so hard?" Ivan looked at the faint dark circles under Hermione's eyes and said with a sigh.
Ivan reached out and removed the Time Turner from Hermione's neck, intending to leave.
Then, he stopped, turned around, and looked at Hermione. He felt it wasn't right to let her sleep on the desk like this.
After some thought, Ivan drew his wand and waved it gently, like a conductor of an orchestra.
The desks and chairs in the classroom became the performers. The cauldrons, reagents, and bottles scattered on the desks came to life, flying and stacking themselves in the corner, making soft sounds.
Then, a dozen long tables automatically joined together and transformed into a soft bed under the influence of magic.
Ivan gently lifted the sleeping Hermione, placed her on the bed, took off her shoes, and covered her with a blanket.
He then pointed his wand at the windows, and the curtains closed, blocking out the evening sunlight, making the classroom quite dark, ensuring Hermione's sleep wouldn't be disturbed.
"Get some rest!" Ivan said, looking at the young witch lying on the bed.
He felt that Hermione should have a good sleep. He had suggested before that she use the Time Turner to increase her sleep time, but Hermione stubbornly believed that the power of the Time Turner shouldn't be used for such things and that getting a bit more sleep at night was enough.
After doing all this, Ivan walked out of the classroom, preparing to use the Time Turner.
Ivan wasn't worried about Hermione's safety.
Although he would temporarily return to the past, as long as he calculated the time correctly, it would be as if he had never left. The moment he left, his future self would already be back.
Besides, Hermione was just asleep, not unconscious.
"Let's try five days! 120 turns!" Ivan decided in his mind.
Before this, he and Hermione had only ever used the Time Turner to go back five hours at most, which was relatively safe. But this time, he had to find out what the risks were!
