Chapter 310: Capturing the Wall
Chapter 310: Capturing the Wall
September 25, 2017
Lu HaiKong's elite guard, the Bandit Guard, was divided into two parts: an elite force composed of top-tier bandits and a regular group of bandits. These two groups not only differed in strength but also in their treatment.
As mentioned earlier, only the elite guard possessed the standard equipment, while the regular bandits were equipped with just a broadsword and a shield that was inferior to even standard-level gear.
This situation was unavoidable. Despite the expansion of the blacksmith camp, it was impossible for them to produce enough equipment for both the elite guard and the Black Gale Legion within a couple of months. A choice had to be made.
The bandits with better equipment also faced more dangerous combat missions.
As soon as the bandits broke through, Pan Feng took command of the elite guard and led them forward, pushing back the enemy.
Meanwhile, Cheng Yi Ze took charge of the regular forces, following Pan Feng's lead and filling in the gaps.
There was no doubt that the elite guard was powerful, but even with their strength, Lu HaiKong did not intend to engage in a direct confrontation with tens of thousands of bandits using only his 1,500-strong elite guard.
When Lu HaiKong used the One-Glimpse Ten Thousand Li ability, he had a clear understanding of the layout of the fort's interior structures and the deployment of soldiers. He knew that after capturing the main gate, the Mega Fort would send reinforcements from specific locations.
Under Lu HaiKong's command, the elite guard pushed forward, blocking the paths where enemy reinforcements could arrive with minimal forces, holding off the fort's backup troops.
As Lu HaiKong held the line, Ye Junru led the Yellow Turban Warriors in three groups, each headed by Zhou Cang, Ye Mei, and Ye Junru herself, directly assaulting the wall.
Lu HaiKong's first tactical goal was to capture this wall. Once secured, it would provide a significant advantage in both offense and defense.
Using the One-Glimpse Ten Thousand Li ability, Lu HaiKong had already identified the enemy forces on the wall: around 2,000 bandits, mostly composed of elite archers and swordsmen, with only a small portion being regular bandits.
Don't underestimate their numbers; for a wall garrison in a non-wartime state, having this many defenders is already impressive. Lu HaiKong's fort usually had less than a quarter of this number.
These 2,000+ bandits were strong, but compared to the Yellow Turban Warriors, a mid-tier unit with a peculiar trait called 'Yellow Turban Defense,' the difference was vast.
With this defense, the bandits' arrows could only inflict minor injuries unless they hit vulnerable spots on the Yellow Turban Warriors.
The three Yellow Turban Warrior groups advanced in three directions, swiftly breaking through and reaching the wall in less than ten minutes. In less than half an hour, they captured the wall, achieving Lu HaiKong's first tactical goal.
While the Yellow Turban Warriors successfully took the wall, the battle on Lu HaiKong's side intensified.
Lu HaiKong's task was undoubtedly more challenging. They faced the entire mobilizable force of the Mega Fort within half an hour, a difficult and dangerous mission.
Before the fight, Lu HaiKong had already underestimated the fort's responsiveness. But as the battle raged on, he realized his mistake.
In less than half an hour, almost the entire fort was mobilized, with some bandit groups arriving earlier due to their proximity and others still on their way. Within half an hour, several thousand bandits had arrived, and more were on the way, with numbers soon reaching the tens of thousands.
While most of the Mega Fort's bandits were regular ones, with only a small portion being low-tier units and even fewer mid-tier ones, Lu HaiKong knew that even a small number of ants could take down an elephant. The elite guard was merely a mid-tier unit, and their numbers were still significant.
In half an hour, the elite guard inflicted heavy casualties, but they also suffered losses, mainly among the regular bandits. The elite guard's casualties were relatively minor, if not non-existent.
After all, the elite guard not only had superior strength but also the direct leadership of Pan Feng and standard equipment, making them harder to defeat.
After half an hour, Lu HaiKong saw Ye Junru's group capture the wall and immediately ordered a retreat.
He understood that the wisest course of action was not to lead his troops into the complex environment of the fort. While Lu HaiKong had some knowledge of the interior due to the One-Glimpse Ten Thousand Li ability, he couldn't inform the elite guard of the fort's layout.
Entering the fort would be akin to engaging in urban warfare, a significant test of individual skills, and the bandits familiar with the terrain would have a clear advantage.
