Chapter 310: A Day in Gryffindor
Chapter 310: A Day in Gryffindor
"The most important thing in Transfiguration is to have unwavering faith and a thorough understanding of your target."
In the Room of Requirement, Kyle transfigured a table into a half-meter-tall miniature statue and controlled it to chop an apple in front of it into two pieces.
Not far away, Hermione seriously took down Kyle's words and even took notes...
In fact, Kyle had originally wanted to go to the greenhouse to see the poisonous touch-me-not, but he certainly couldn't say that in front of Hermione, so he casually made up an excuse that he wanted to practice Transfiguration.
But Kyle forgot that Hermione, unlike Harry and Ron, was a studious nerd with a strong curiosity.
She had witnessed Kyle's ability in Transfiguration during the Duel Club.
It was also the first time Hermione intuitively felt the huge gap between herself and Kyle.
Perhaps out of curiosity, or perhaps worried that Kyle would discover their secret of brewing the complex potion, Hermione immediately expressed her desire to join him and observe from the sidelines.
And her attitude was very sincere.
Kyle was left speechless, but to avoid arousing suspicion, he could only agree to Hermione's request.
And so, he ended up practicing Transfiguration for more than half an hour in an empty room.
"It's not as difficult as you think," Kyle picked up the half-apple from the floor, took a bite, and handed the other half to Hermione.
"I suggest you pay more attention to the objects around you and gain a deeper understanding of their specific structures... Of course, I don't mean observing with your eyes, but with your magical power."
Hermione also took a bite of the apple and said thoughtfully, "Like those statues you transfigured?"
"Something even simpler, like an apple, a table, or a pair of slippers."
Kyle shook his head. "Those statues belong to a certain type of magical creature and even involve ancient alchemy. It's difficult to analyze their structure with magic... at least not something I can do yet."
"In fact, what I transfigured is not a statue but armor that resembles a statue."
Upon Kyle's reminder, Hermione realized that there were indeed many gaps in the half-meter-tall "statue", similar to the seams of armor, but they were well-hidden and difficult to spot without a careful examination.
"Did you learn all these from the Transfiguration Club?" Hermione asked. "Fred and George told me that you joined Professor McGonagall's Transfiguration Club. What's it like? Is it similar to the Duel Club?"
"There are far fewer people, and it's only open to students in their third year and above. Professor McGonagall teaches a lot of content beyond the exam syllabus, so it's sort of like an advanced class for Transfiguration."
Kyle explained, "As for the rest, I can't say too much, or it would be like revealing the questions in advance. Professor McGonagall doesn't allow that."
Hermione looked a bit disappointed.
"I'm heading back," Kyle said as he tidied up his things briefly. "Are you going to stay here?"
"No," Hermione shook her head. "I agreed to meet Harry and Ron in the library today to work on our assignments."
The two left the Room of Requirement together.
Kyle had intended to turn back after Hermione left, but just as he reached the stairs, he ran into Fred and George.
Each of them was holding a large amount of food, probably having just visited the kitchen.
"Kyle, what are you doing here?" Fred exclaimed in surprise. "We looked for you at the Hufflepuff common room."
"And we got drenched in vinegar!" George scrunched up his nose. "It felt awful, and I certainly didn't enjoy that Christmas present."
The two of them carried a faint acidic odor, but their clothes and hair were dry, indicating that they had already cleaned themselves with a spell.
Fred and George each took Kyle by the arm and led him forward.
The Gryffindor common room was also on the eighth floor, not far from their current location. Soon, they arrived in front of a large painting.
The painting depicted a plump lady with a kind face.
"Password," she said.
"Melody of Heaven," they replied.
"Thank you for the compliment..." The plump lady happily opened the passage for them.
"What did she say just now?" Kyle asked curiously.
"The fat lady loves to sing," Fred explained, "but she clearly lacks the talent for it."
"So she changed the password to this," George laughed. "Every time we come back, it's like we're complimenting her singing."
"Never mind that, Kyle," Fred interrupted.
He stepped through the passage and gestured grandly as he said, "Welcome to the Gryffindor common room."
Normally, students were not allowed to visit other houses' common rooms, but since it was the holidays, no one would mind.
George gave Kyle a gentle push, urging him inside.
The room was circular and brightly lit, with a predominant theme of red. The high ceiling and walls were adorned with comfortable armchairs.
"What do you think?" Fred asked with a smile.
"It's amazing," Kyle replied. "Though it's a bit smaller than I imagined."
"Is the Hufflepuff common room big?" Hermione asked curiously as she joined them.
Kyle nodded, "It's quite a bit larger than this, but the ceiling is lower."
"Well, the locations are different," George said as he sat down in an armchair.
This was something they were already aware of, as the area below only housed the kitchen and the Hufflepuff common room, so it made sense for it to be a bit larger.
Hermione nodded, not giving it much thought.
She looked around the room and asked, "Where are Harry and Ron?"
"Don't know," Fred shrugged. "I guess they're still asleep. I think they plan to sleep till noon."
"Oh, that won't do! We have a lot of homework to finish."
Hermione frowned and rushed into the boys' dormitory.
"I think Ron wouldn't want to do homework on the first day of the holidays," George commented.
He handed a sandwich to Kyle and continued, "By the way, Kyle, we've made some inquiries about what you told us before."
"What?"
George took a bite of his sandwich, "Remember when you mentioned that the Heir of Slytherin would definitely behave differently from before?"
Kyle nodded.
He recalled the casual comment he had made during their previous conversation, not expecting Fred and George to take it so seriously and actually investigate...
"Did you find out who it is?" Kyle asked.
"No... or perhaps it's impossible to find out."
Fred sighed.
"With the castle under attack three times, almost everyone is behaving differently out of panic... it can't be that they're all the Heir of Slytherin."
"Take Ron, for example..." George glanced in the direction of the dormitory, "usually, apart from doing homework, he rarely goes to the library... "
"...but recently, he rushes there as soon as class ends and only returns before curfew. I even suspect Ron might be under the Imperius Curse."
"Shut up, Fred!"
At that moment, Ron walked into the common room, rubbing his eyes sleepily. He sat down in an armchair and grumbled, "If everyone suspects you of being the Heir of Slytherin, you'd want to go to the library too... at least there, no one will be staring at you strangely."
