Chapter 31: Why Are You Chasing Me!
Chapter 31: Why Are You Chasing Me!
Of course Klah stood no chance against Klahcrocodile. Kuro knew this well, so when he witnessed their battle, he simply stood aside and watched.
That’s right. Just watched.
Why bother getting involved in such a mess? Helping out would only expose himself, wouldn’t it?
However, when Klah was truly on the brink, Kuro did intervene slightly.
That "Eye Sword" strike? That was him.
Like "Crushing Pressure", this was an attack infused with Killing Intent—a mental assault. Originally, Kuro had only intended to slow down Klahcrocodile slightly, buying Klah time to escape. He’d even prepared to rescue Klah himself if necessary. But to his surprise, Klahcrocodile actually halted.
Klah collapsed on the ground, staring blankly at the sky as he muttered:
"I was wrong. I was so wrong. I shouldn’t have agreed to join the Navy. If I hadn’t joined the Navy, I wouldn’t have met Klahcrocodile, and I wouldn’t have ended up in this situation."
"Mr. Kuro!"
Tashigi arrived with the rest of the Navy, fortunate that there were no casualties—only minor injuries from unlucky collisions with debris. Their morale remained high.
"That earlier attack was..."
"Oh, nothing much. Probably a new sandstorm. You lead the team to Alubarna. Lida and Klah, you’ll go together. I have something to handle here."
Kuro retrieved the [Huazhou] from Klah and tucked it at his waist as he spoke.
"Understood!"
Tashigi saluted and led the group toward Alubarna.
Since they had mounts, their speed wasn’t slow, quickly turning into trails of dust.
Watching them disappear, Kuro sighed. "What a pain."
He’d nearly compromised his own safety.
This was clearly Klahcrocodile realizing Klah’s existence and viewing him as a threat, deciding to eliminate him early.
"Even if the name Klah is famous, no one should know he came to Arabasta. Did someone overhear? Nico Robin? Lucky I changed my disguise earlier."
Kuro pondered, concluding that must’ve been the case.
He regretted agreeing to come to Arabasta with Smoker. Going directly to Headquarters would’ve been much better.
But there were solutions.
His Observation Haki range was vast.
Above, Klahcrocodile reappeared, spotting the Navy’s swift movement toward Alubarna. He gathered a sandstorm in his hands.
"Sandstorm Slash!"
That man mustn’t reach Alubarna—the plan would be severely impacted!
As he prepared to attack, a golden slash erupted skyward, cleaving through Klahcrocodile’s body.
Hmph!
The sand reassembled, and Klahcrocodile’s expression darkened as he glared toward a distant direction. "Still there? Deliberately waiting for me?"
He couldn’t see his opponent, but that slash had been real.
So that Klah did possess such power after all.
"Then I’ll finish you here!"
Klahcrocodile transformed into sand, ready to fly toward the source of the slash.
Yet again, a golden slash hurtled toward him, cutting him in half.
"You—"
He barely reassembled his form before another slash struck.
Then came wave after wave, like wind blades—countless golden slashes rained down, slicing Klahcrocodile into fragments.
But for a Logia user, these slashes were merely troublesome. They caused no real harm.
But that was enough.
Outside Rainbase, Kuro swung his blade in continuous slashes. His Observation Haki confirmed Klahcrocodile’s presence—each slash severed him clean.
Who knows how strong the Seven Warlords of the Sea truly were? What if Klahcrocodile had backup plans? Kuro had no intention of entangling with these freaks.
"You can’t see me, don’t even know who I am. I’ll just keep slashing until you’re too worn out!"
This was Kuro’s strategy for survival!
Meanwhile, Klahcrocodile felt increasingly terrible. What was this Flying Slash?
He was like a solitary boat in a storm, enduring slashes that tore his body apart, constantly regenerating, constantly torn again.
The frequency was too high—like relentless rain. Every strike was unavoidable.
Even as a Logia user, with his form constantly disrupted, he couldn’t move, only endure.
"Trying to wait until the Navy leaves completely? That’s your weakness, Klah. Swinging Flying Slash after Flying Slash—you must be exhausted soon!"
Klahcrocodile suddenly relaxed. As long as there was a weakness, there was a way to counter.
Even the Greatest Swordsman couldn’t maintain this intensity for long.
But soon, he thought his earlier conclusion ridiculous.
"Me, Kuro, could slice through mountain peaks all day."
Kuro truly kept slashing nonstop—from day into night, beneath a star-studded sky, only then did he stop.
Because he sensed Klahcrocodile had given up resistance.
"Farewell!"
Kuro sheathed his blade and vanished in a blur.
By now, Rainbase was utterly destroyed.
Klahcrocodile lay on the ground, having given up resistance long ago. From initial anticipation to shock, anger, frustration, and finally complete resignation.
He’d never seen someone unleash such dense slashes for an entire day.
Even as a Logia user, he felt pain now—phantom pain from endless severing.
"Has it stopped?"
Klahcrocodile stared blankly at the sky. The golden light seemed gone.
After lying there stunned for a while, Klahcrocodile gradually regained awareness. It truly had stopped.
"That man..."
Gritting his teeth, Klahcrocodile soared toward Alubarna.
He abandoned his plan to trap Klah in Rainbase.
Such power was too monstrous!
"That man, there are many ways to stall him. No need to confront him directly. Once I find Pluton, I won’t fear anyone—Navy, pirates, World Government alike!"
Klahcrocodile clenched his teeth, an image of a tall figure wielding a naginata flashing through his mind.
He flew faster.
...
Alubarna.
"Why are you chasing me!"
Klah continuously used Shave through the streets, his expression dark as storm clouds.
No sooner had he arrived in Alubarna than he was targeted.
And not just a few—everyone from Baroque Works’ millionaires to top executives was hunting him.
Klah was baffled. He’d just escaped Klahcrocodile’s shadow, only to stumble into an even worse predicament.
"Dust Slash!"
A deep voice erupted from behind. Klah’s heart tightened as he skidded across the ground.
"Shave!"
A circular boundary appeared around him. As Klah vanished, a bald, muscular man charged forward, swiping downward with five fingers. The force cleaved the nearby buildings into pieces.
Hiss!
Five sparks burst behind him. Klah manifested with Ten Blades, shocked. "Daz Bonez, the famous bounty hunter from the West Blue! What are you doing here?"
This man’s Devil Fruit ability was said to be the nemesis of all swordsmen. Klah wasn’t exactly a swordsman, but he wielded weapons. He’d heard of this reputation during his pirating days.
"Boss’s orders. Eliminate you at all costs."
Mr.1 cracked his neck. "Though I don’t understand why you’re worth eliminating."
Klahcrocodile hadn’t revealed Klah’s terrifying abilities—only issued a kill-on-sight order across Baroque Works.
