Chapter 31: Crush
Chapter 31: Crush
---
Looking at the two battered corpses in front of him, and then glancing at the Hidden Dragon lying innocently on the ground, Su Nan couldn't help but twitch his lips.
Through his bond with his magical pet, he had a good idea of what had happened.
The two assassins had been spotted by the Hidden Dragon the moment they climbed over the wall, while it was sleeping in the courtyard. Initially, it had just been curious, but as the assassins approached the corridor and drew their weapons, it immediately identified them as enemies and launched a fierce attack. It had used too much force, quickly dispatching both of them.
"Next time, try to leave one of them alive," Su Nan said, patting the Hidden Dragon's head. He then turned his attention back to the two bodies.
From the muscle density and bone strength, it was clear that both were formal knights, and at least one of them was a high-ranking knight.
Anyone who could send two high-ranking knights as assassins and have the motive to do so was obvious.
"Since they sent people to my place, they probably did the same to my brother."
Su Nan looked in the direction of the main building, his senses expanding. Sure enough, he heard faint sounds of commotion.
He narrowed his eyes, cast a Shield Spell on himself, and a layer of green light enveloped his body. Swift as the wind, he dashed out of the courtyard toward the main building. Behind him, the Hidden Dragon let out a hiss, leaped into the night, and vanished.
In the courtyard in front of the main building, the sounds of metal clashing with metal echoed continuously.
Led by Brad, over a dozen knights and an equal number of Black Rock Leopards were surrounding and attacking a tall, burly middle-aged man.
Despite the numerical advantage, Brad and his companions were actually at a disadvantage.
Under the moonlight, a faint, almost imperceptible layer of light could be seen on the middle-aged man's body. The knights' weapons, upon striking this layer, not only failed to break through but also caused their hands to ache from the impact.
In contrast, the middle-aged man could easily knock a knight flying with a single strike.
Among the knights, only Brad could barely use his shield to block the man's attacks head-on.
Relying on their numbers, they could barely hold their ground.
Not far away, Koy was locked in a fierce battle with a black-sworded assassin, clearly at a disadvantage. If not for the relentless attacks of the Black Rock Leopards, which constrained the assassin, the situation would have been even worse.
This was the scene Su Nan encountered when he arrived at the courtyard.
"Two Grand Knight-level assassins, quite the impressive show of force."
Su Nan's gaze swept over the scene, quickly assessing the assassins' strength. He couldn't help but wonder.
Ewen only had one Grand Knight under his command. Where had he found two Grand Knight-level assassins? These days, Grand Knights were treated like honored guests in any territory and would never stoop to being lowly assassins.
But now wasn't the time to think about that. Su Nan's gaze hardened, and he said firmly, "Everyone, fall back!"
Without hesitation, Brad and the others abandoned their opponents and retreated in unison.
The middle-aged knight was taken aback and frowned as he sized up Su Nan.
He could clearly sense that the moment this young man appeared, the dozen or so knights surrounding him visibly brightened, their morale soaring.
Clearly, this newcomer was no pushover and had given them a great deal of confidence.
For a young man to command such respect and obedience from a group of knights, including a peak knight, he must hold a high position in Black Rock City.
The middle-aged knight immediately thought of the young wizard, Su Nan, who was rumored to be a powerful mage.
Looking at the young face before him, he became even more certain.
"A wizard, huh?"
The middle-aged knight narrowed his eyes, his expression growing serious.
---
Others might think that wizards are just charlatans, but he had access to some secret intelligence and knew that true wizards were a mysterious and powerful group of people.
As for whether Su Nan was a true wizard?
The two high-ranking knights sent to assassinate him might have an answer to that.
Just by seeing Su Nan appear here, while those two didn't show up, one could guess their fate.
There was no doubt that this was a formidable opponent!
The middle-aged knight took a deep breath, gripping his sword tightly as he stared at the calm-faced Su Nan, ready for a fierce battle.
But in the next second, it was as if he had been hit by a speeding carriage. He flew backward like a cannonball, crashing into a stone wall dozens of meters away.
Boom!
Debris scattered, and dust rose!
The surrounding knights were all taken aback, their eyes wide with shock.
What happened?
How did that guy suddenly fly out?
Only Koy and the black-sworded assassin noticed something amiss.
At the moment the middle-aged knight was hit, they clearly saw a slight distortion in the air, outlining the shape of a massive beast.
Clearly, that beast had attacked the middle-aged knight.
The black-sworded assassin's expression turned to horror.
What kind of monster is that?
It can even turn invisible?!
Before he could figure it out, a sharp, agonized scream pierced through the swirling dust, followed by a figure breaking through the dust cloud at a high speed.
It was the middle-aged knight.
But he was in a terrible state.
One of his arms hung limply by his side, bent at an unnatural angle, and his chest and abdomen were riddled with crescent-shaped wounds, as if torn by a ferocious beast.
He was covered in blood, looking utterly defeated.
"Damn monster!"
The middle-aged knight roared, his face contorted, then suddenly swung his sword backward as if sensing something.
But his attack missed.
In the next second, a massive figure emerged from the other side. Its massive claws, tipped with sharp, curved nails, pierced through the middle-aged knight's body in one swift motion.
Then it leaped high, pinning the middle-aged knight beneath it, and opened its massive, blood-stained mouth, revealing a row of sharp teeth. In a few quick bites, it tore the knight's body into pieces.
The scene was so gruesome that it sent shivers down everyone's spines.
Bred and the others involuntarily swallowed hard, their eyes filled with awe as they stared at the massive beast.
Even though it had grown more than twice its original size, they still recognized it as the giant lizard that Su Nan had brought back from the Black Scaled Lizardmen.
But why had it grown so large, and how could it turn invisible and move so stealthily?
Its terrifying combat power, effortlessly crushing a Grand Knight, was at least ten times stronger than before!
Koy and the black-sworded assassin had stopped fighting at some point, both staring at the Hidden Dragon with shock.
Koy, however, also had a hint of excitement in his eyes.
The black-sworded assassin, on the other hand, was purely terrified.
What was supposed to be a guaranteed assassination had gone wrong from the start.
The intelligence had not mentioned that the target had so many knights and knight-level monsters guarding him.
Especially those strange black leopards, which they could not detect at all, leading to their presence being discovered as soon as they infiltrated.
If that was all, it might have just taken more effort, but the task would still have been doable.
But what about that terrifying beast?!
The intelligence had not mentioned that Black Rock City had such a powerful and fearsome creature!
