Chapter 309: The Cleanup
Chapter 309: The Cleanup
Chen Chuan waited until the life force of Moonblade completely vanished before turning back to face Zhao Qian. With a calm tone, he asked, "Supervisor Zhao, have you made up your mind?"
Zhao Qian lay there, staring straight at Chen Chuan.
He had just witnessed the entire process, and initially believed that Chen Chuan had no chance of survival. However, a Tier Three Combatant had been slain right before his eyes by Chen Chuan, creating a sense of psychological anticipation and a disconnect between expectation and reality. The shattering of hope and the physiological discomfort contorted his face.
At this moment, he finally realized that Chen Chuan had never taken the drugs; it was all an act! The person standing before him was undoubtedly a Tier Three Combatant!
Youshang's death should have been a miscalculation of the opponent.
Now it was his turn.
Lying there, he faced Chen Chuan's looming gaze. His chest heaved, and with his lips half-parted, he made a choking sound, as if wanting to say something but unable to get the words out.
Chen Chuan approached him, and Zhao Qian struggled to lift his head. As the figure neared, Zhao Qian's eyes suddenly widened, and a sharp spike emerged from his sleeve, stabbing upwards towards Chen Chuan's ribcage!
However, before the spike could hit its mark, a hand reached out and gently pushed Zhao Qian's forehead, snapping his head back with a crack. His neck instantly broke, and the spike on the protective windbreaker became powerless. His hands dropped, and with a clatter, he fell to the ground.
Chen Chuan stared at him for a moment. The force of his palm not only broke Zhao Qian's neck but also shattered his entire skull, instantly ending his life.
Chen Chuan glanced forward and noticed the driver stumbling away on the other side of the guardrail. When Zhao Qian had been picked up, the driver had run off.
However, the driver's escape route was not ideal. The outskirts of Central City were not a place where just anyone could roam freely.
The driver was just an ordinary person, and Chen Chuan had no intention of killing him. Throughout the entire incident, Chen Chuan had kept his face hidden, and he was even wearing a Ministry of Administration uniform. There was no Nexus Point record of the scene, and if Union Vast Control wanted to investigate, they could do so. The downfall of the Zhao family and the collapse of Ink Orchid Corporation were all interconnected.
However, would Union Vast Control go to such lengths for Zhao Qian? Chen Chuan doubted it.
Zhao Qian's death meant he was now a liability to be cleared, especially with the Processing Bureau repeatedly keeping an eye on him.
Chen Chuan reached out, grabbed Zhao Qian's neck from behind, and followed the embedded line to remove the external implant. He then extracted the Nexus Core, which should have recorded everything. Perhaps it could provide some useful information.
He took out a bag, placed the items inside, and returned to retrieve the scabbard, sheathing the Xuejun Blade within it.
Chen Chuan looked up at Central City, where the National Avenue stretched forward. The rising sun had reached the city's silhouette, and the sunlight shone along the road, casting a long shadow beside him.
He stood for a moment, then moved to Moonblade's side, lifted the body, and placed it in the trunk, intending to find a spot to bury it on the way back. The body of Feng Gai, which had been in the trunk earlier, had been discarded on the way out of the city.
After closing the trunk, Chen Chuan removed Zhao Qian's double-handed sword from the car and returned to his own vehicle.
Soon, the Gader Car's engine roared to life, and he drove away from the scene.
About three to four minutes after Chen Chuan's departure, the assistant in the car stirred slightly. Dazed, he sat up, looked around, and after a while, his eyes gradually focused. Remembering what had happened, he scrambled out of the car and rushed to Zhao Qian's side. He checked and found that Zhao Qian had stopped breathing, filling his heart with fear.
Zhao Qian had recruited him into the company, and his position was dependent on Zhao Qian. With Zhao Qian's death, there was no way he could stay in the company. Moreover, he had often offended people on Zhao Qian's behalf, making it extremely easy for them to target him. Returning to the company would be a dead end, so he clenched his teeth.
He tried the driver's seat and found the car still functional, elating him.
He knew there was a drawer with emergency cash in the car, not a lot of money but enough for his journey. He also knew of Zhao Qian's untraceable bank account.
But these weren't enough...
His heart seemed to hesitate, but eventually, a cruel smile appeared as he drew a small knife from his waist and approached Zhao Qian's body. He knew that the brain tissue of a Tier Three Combatant could fetch a high price, especially in Central City.
As Zhao Qian's body slid to the ground, Chen Chuan carefully cradled his head and placed it in the car's icebox, positioning it neatly.
Then, he decided to remove Zhao Qian's expensive watch, wiped it clean, and pocketed it before hurrying back to the driver's seat. He started the car, made a quick U-turn, and drove off in the opposite direction of Central City.
On the other side, Chi Duan lay helplessly on the side of the road, his arm broken and dangling limply. Despite this, the figure before him remained standing firm, seemingly unmoved since the start of the fight.
Chi Duan smiled bitterly, "It's no use." After the previous battle, he had pondered various ways to deal with this opponent and made many preparations, but none of them had proven effective.
He tried pleading, "Can you spare me, sir? I've done my duty to Mr. Zhao. I won't work for him anymore."
His words were sincere, and the other party didn't seem intent on killing him. It seemed their purpose was merely to stop him, as he wouldn't have had a chance to speak otherwise.
Zhao Qian was most likely going to escape, and although he was willing to repay the Zhao family for their past support, he had already done his best. It wasn't his fault that his abilities were lacking.
The figure glanced at him and turned to leave.
As the figure walked away, Chi Duan felt his entire body relax. He lay sprawled on the ground, looking up at the sky. It seemed that he could no longer stay in Jinbei Dao Central City.
After Chen Chuan returned to the field domain range of Central City, his boundary token first contacted Wu Bei, asking for technical support. This way, his entry and exit records would be thoroughly erased.
In fact, it wasn't just today; ever since the incident with Teacher Wu, Wu Bei had been handling his daily movements.
After communicating with Wu Bei, Chen Chuan also contacted Gao Ming.
Gao Ming's voice came through, "Cousin, it seems the matter has been resolved."
Chen Chuan replied, "Yes, the plan was executed smoothly."
Gao Ming said, "Next, you'll need to deal with possible inquiries from the Processing Bureau."
Chen Chuan acknowledged this with a hum. Since his conflict with Zhao Qian had been made known to the Processing Bureau, and now that Zhao Qian was dead, some people within the bureau would likely suspect him.
