Chapter 309: Ivan: I'm Not a Devil!
Chapter 309: Ivan: I’m Not a Devil!
Peter's belief that the young wizard in front of him wanted to torture him grew stronger. Why else would he use spells to injure him, then heal him, and repeat the cycle?
What was the point of this?
Anger surged in Peter's heart, but as soon as he saw Ivan walk over, the anger was instantly quelled, turning into fear.
Ivan did not cast a spell to continue torturing Peter as he had expected. Instead, he looked at the parchment in his hand and said, "That's enough for today. You'll turn into a rat, and I'll send you back."
Hearing these words, Peter felt tears welling up in his eyes. It was finally over.
What surprised Peter even more was that Ivan did not intend to kill him but planned to return him to Ron.
A glint of gratitude flickered in Peter's eyes, and he immediately transformed into his Animagus form as Ivan instructed.
But soon, Peter realized that something in Ivan's words seemed off.
Wait, just for today?
That meant there could be a tomorrow and the day after?
At this thought, Peter felt his scalp tingle, a chill running from his feet to the top of his head.
Before he could think further, a bright white light suddenly appeared. Peter only managed to let out a "squeak" before falling unconscious.
"Obliviate!"
Ivan looked at the unconscious Peter and slowly put away his wand.
The Obliviate spell he had learned from Lockhart was becoming increasingly effortless for him to use.
To avoid Peter noticing any discrepancies in his memory, Ivan only erased the events of the evening's experiment. This way, Peter would only think he had a deep, uninterrupted sleep.
After dealing with the rat, Ivan turned his attention back to his research notes and nodded in satisfaction.
By adding Valerian and a few neutralizing Potion ingredients, the duration of the Polyjuice Potion had almost doubled!
The stability was also much better than before. No matter how he cast spells to injure Peter, it did not affect the Potion's effectiveness.
This meant that the Potion research was almost complete. With Peter Pettigrew's help, Ivan estimated that he would find the optimal Potion formula and complete the improvement of the Polyjuice Potion in just a couple of days.
At the same time, Ivan felt he needed to find an opportunity to confirm the risk associated with each turn of the Time Turner.
With that thought, Ivan sighed, grabbed the unconscious Peter from the floor, and left the Room of Requirement.
Back in the dormitory, Harry, Ron, and the others were still sound asleep. Ivan quietly placed the grayish-black rat back in its original spot.
The next morning, the boys' dormitory was suddenly filled with a sharp, shrill scream, jolting everyone awake.
Ivan, who had only slept for a short while, yawned and sat up in bed. He then realized the sound was coming from Ron's bed.
Ron, rubbing his ears and confused, turned around to see his pet Scabbers curled up in the corner, frantically gnawing at his pillow.
"Scabbers, what's wrong with you, Scabbers?!" Ron was startled and reached out to grab the rat, but Scabbers bared its teeth and hissed at him as if scared.
Indeed, when Peter woke up that morning, he found himself aching all over, his body weak, as if he had been secretly beaten up while sleeping.
Could it be that Sirius Black snuck in last night?
But why does he have no memory of it?
In Peter Pettigrew's memory, everything was fine last night. He just slept and nothing happened.
Or maybe he really is sick?
Peter seemed a bit paranoid.
After a while, with class time approaching, Ron no longer cared about Scabbers' feelings and grabbed him, stuffing him into his pocket.
Ivan watched this scene from the side, finding it a bit strange. He remembered that he had erased all the relevant memories. Why was Peter still reacting so strongly?
But soon, Ivan figured it out. Peter had been tormented by him all night, and even though his injuries had healed, some muscle soreness was inevitable.
Since it wasn't a problem with his Obliviate, Ivan felt much more at ease. He then got out of bed, washed up, and prepared to go to class.
After a busy day, it wasn't until dinner that Ivan remembered to check on the white mouse. He turned to Ron and asked,
"Ron, how is Scabbers doing now?"
"Absolutely terrible!" Ron looked worried as he took Scabbers out of his pocket.
The gray-black rat, who had once been full of energy, now lay listlessly in Ron's hand, barely moving.
"It seems like he's really sick. He was acting crazy this morning, and his condition hasn't improved at all." Ron looked very downcast.
"I have a bottle of Energizing Tonic. You can try giving it to him; it should help." Ivan thought for a moment, then took a vial from his robes and offered it.
"Great! Thank you so much, Ivan!" Ron quickly took the Potion and prepared to pour it into Scabbers' mouth.
The latter resisted fiercely, even scratching Ron's skin.
Although Peter had lost his memory of last night due to the Obliviate, he still had a psychological shadow when he saw the Potion. He felt that the Potion must be problematic, especially since it was given to him by Ivan.
Peter didn't want to drink it at all.
However, as a rat, no matter how hard he resisted, it was futile.
Ron was determined. He called Harry over to help hold Scabbers, while he pried open Scabbers' mouth and poured the Potion in.
Squeak, squeak, squeak
Peter screamed in agony, reminding Ivan of his prolonged cries last night.
Ivan was quite helpless. The Potion was just a strong happiness-inducing tonic with some nourishing effects, not a poison.
After a while, Peter stopped screaming and his body relaxed.
He realized that the Potion was quite sweet and didn't seem to be toxic.
After drinking it, a natural sense of happiness washed over him, as if his body had been cleansed. The stubborn expression on his face gradually eased, and the fatigue vanished. A smile even appeared on Peter's lips.
Looking around, everything seemed particularly pleasant. When he saw Ivan, he couldn't help but wonder if he had been misunderstanding him all along?
This young wizard might really be concerned about him.
