Chapter 308: The Request of the Silver Dragon
Christina hadn’t noticed the flicker of coldness that passed through the Red Dragon’s eyes. She continued, her voice smooth and deliberate:
“The Dragon Queen has declared you her most cherished offspring. She guarantees your leadership of Anzeta and intends for you to play a vital role in the grand design of the Color Dragon.”
Kai Xiusu thought to himself: Do I really need your help to secure my leadership over the Northern Regions? Still, he replied with polite detachment:
“Convey my gratitude to the Queen. But I hardly lack the strength to achieve my goals.”
“You,” Christina faltered, genuinely taken aback. She couldn’t fathom anyone rejecting such a generous offer—especially on the eve of war.
Kai Xiusu pressed on, his tone calm yet unyielding:
“You need not become my ally. Merely witness history. Observe. My army and I will annihilate every enemy—yes, even that ancient Silver Dragon who has only just awakened.”
His words carried the weight of inevitability, as if he were stating a simple fact of nature.
Christina was once again struck by the sheer, overwhelming confidence radiating from the Red Dragon.
After all, the enemy camp housed a primordial-level spell-eating Silver Dragon! Even the most arrogant Ancient Red Dragon would hesitate to claim absolute victory against such a foe. Yet here stood Kai Xiusu—already treating the battle as a foregone conclusion, calmly awaiting the celebration banquet.
But she didn’t know the truth.
Kai Xiusu wasn’t willing to allow these Blue Dragons to settle in Anzeta. Once they gained a foothold, it would open the door for countless agents of Tiamat to infiltrate. Worse still, at his level of combat, even mature, powerful Blue Dragons would be negligible—mere distractions that could cloud his judgment.
And in a large-scale war, the Kingdom of Ashen’s mighty army was already more than capable of crushing the enemy. Even if a dozen more Blue Dragons arrived, they’d only be the cherry on top—adding nothing significant to the outcome.
Christina exhaled softly, her voice tinged with awe:
“Your confidence… and your strength… leave me speechless.”
“But… the Dragon Queen has one final decree.”
Her tone wavered. Her breath grew urgent. A faint flush crept across her cheeks.
“What decree?” Kai Xiusu asked, eyes narrowing slightly.
With a ripple of magic, Christina transformed—her body stretching to over ten meters in length. Under Kai Xiusu’s watchful gaze, she stepped forward, her emerald eyes glowing with seductive intent. She leaned into the Red Dragon’s massive frame, her voice a sultry whisper against his ear:
“Prince Kai Xiusu… the Dragon Queen herself has declared that, as the long-standing loyal vassal of House Fabria, you must sire the finest heir with me.”
Kai Xiusu’s expression darkened instantly.
After violently shoving aside the clinging, wailing Blue Dragon—still shrieking about “the Queen’s divine arrangement”—and wiping the slobber from his face, Kai Xiusu let out a bitter laugh, his mind seething.
“So this is Tiamat. So this is the Five-Colored Dragon Queen. I’ve finally witnessed the depths of her brazenness.”
“She wants my bloodline, to verify Karex’s heritage… then dismisses the Blue Dragon clan as mere pawns. And all the while, she weaves her power into the Kingdom of Ashen—without spending a single coin.”
“A masterstroke of profit with no investment.”
Tinia, perched nearby, flicked her tail in smug satisfaction, spitting venomously:
“Pfft. That blue-skinned wretch has ulterior motives. Look at her—stinking of dust, her nose twisted like a spike. How dare she even dream of mating with our Master?”
But she dared not utter the rest: Only I am worthy of this honor.
Kai Xiusu shot the foolish White Dragon a glance—then turned away. His mind now focused on the matter of Oszedro. The intelligence had arrived just in time.
His earlier display of absolute confidence had been for show—solely to intimidate the Blue Dragon.
Without invoking the power of the Heart of Karex, he still felt a deep unease toward that ancient Silver Dragon. He couldn’t claim absolute certainty.
After all, the Silver Dragon was second only to the Golden Dragon among the Metal Dragons—equal in might to the Red Dragon. And an ancient-level Silver Dragon had a base challenge level of 23. Not to mention its innate Spell Armor Classcumulator and spellcasting abilities.
“I’ll have to speak with Olivia again,” he decided.
That accident—though brief—had left a faint pang of guilt in his heart. Not much, perhaps, but it lingered. He didn’t actively push the thought away. Maybe, just maybe, it was the last remnant of his humanity.
—
In the Secondary Hall of the Iron Dragon Wing Palace, the Silver Dragon lay still, her wounds still raw.
Fortunately, under Kai Xiusu’s tolerance, she had been freed from her chains. She could now move freely within the palace’s cramped confines, even enjoy the royal chefs’ delicacies. Through daily reports from the kingdom, she kept herself informed of the outside world.
Yet today, Olivia wasn’t resting. Her face was etched with worry.
“Is war really coming?” she murmured, staring at the sealed metallic gate. Her gaze seemed to pierce through the palace walls, reaching the battlefield beyond—the blood-soaked hell she had already witnessed in her mind’s eye. The rivers of blood. The endless screams.
Having examined the kingdom’s reports, she knew the Northern Regions stood no chance. This war would be a massacre. A one-sided slaughter.
The thought made her heart tremble.
Suddenly, she sensed a familiar oppressive pressure.
With a thunderous groan, the massive gate creaked open. And there, silhouetted against the dim light, stood the towering figure of the Red Dragon.
“Boom—”
Olivia looked up, meeting those pale golden vertical pupils. Her lips trembled. She bit down hard, emotions swirling within her—fear, sorrow, longing, dread. She had rehearsed this moment a hundred times, imagined how she’d face him. But now, faced with the reality, she realized: She had no answers.
How should she face this Red Dragon?
As an enemy?
Or… as something else?
As the Red Dragon stepped inside, the air grew thick with tension. A solemn, heavy silence fell over the hall.
Finally, Kai Xiusu broke the silence.
“Long time no see, Olivia.”
She hesitated, biting her lip. After what felt like an eternity, she mustered the courage—almost bowing, her voice trembling with sincerity:
“Kai Xiusu… can you stop? Please… stop.”
“Stop what?” Kai Xiusu tilted his head slightly, his gaze locked onto her pale blue eyes.
Olivia lifted her head, meeting his stare with unwavering honesty.
“All of this. This war.”
“Too many innocent lives have already died because of you. Stop now… I know you’re not truly evil. You’ve just been… influenced. I’ll give everything I have to help you—”
“Olivia,” Kai Xiusu cut her off without mercy, “you’re wrong.”
“It’s not that I want to stop. It’s that they are afraid.”
He took a step forward, his voice low and cold.
“The Battle of Tiriel. The Magul Incident. Both were initiated by the Northern nobles. I was forced into defense—only retaliating when cornered. Should I have just stood there, hands open, begging for death… because I’m a Red Dragon?”
“You’ve seen enough. Haven’t you realized yet?”
“As long as my kingdom exists, peasants and commoners suffering under noble oppression will keep pouring in. I don’t want to war with them. But the Northern nobles cannot tolerate a kingdom like mine—something that threatens their power base.”
“Whether I am justice or evil… it doesn’t matter to them. As long as I uphold serfdom and protect their privileges, even if I were the Deep Abyss Demon himself, they’d cover for me. They’d call me a righteous monarch.”
“But if I challenge their rule? Then they’ll cast me as the monster. The destroyer.”
A cruel grin split his lips.
“In short… good and evil mean nothing to them. What matters is that the Kingdom of Ashen—this anomaly, this threat—doesn’t exist.”
