Chapter 308: The Mechanic in the Parking Garage
Chapter 308: The Mechanic in the Parking Garage
Nasir was a mechanic aboard the ship.
He had grown accustomed to the swaying of the waves and the feeling of being away from land for days or even months.
Ship repairs were simple and familiar tasks for him, and the best part was that as long as his skills remained, he didn't need to interact with others, and no one could drive him away from his post.
However, this voyage was a bit challenging for Nasir—there were many tourists on board, and they kept visiting places that were usually deserted.
Nasir couldn't understand why these buzzing machines and monotonous water pipes could be more interesting than the theater on the upper deck. The parking garage did have some luxury vehicles, but it was strange how the tourists kept going towards the cargo vehicles.
As an ordinary mechanic, Nasir didn't have the authority to chase away the paying tourists. He could only scowl, holding a cable and toolbox, and quickly pass by the peculiar tourists.
He could sense that some people were scrutinizing him with eyes like searchlights, which made Nasir feel even more uncomfortable, reminding him of certain movies he had watched.
Movies like "The Great Heist," "The Haunting Cruise," and "Titanic" came to mind.
Nasir became cautious and pretended to inspect the pipes with a small hammer while secretly observing the suspicious tourists.
As he looked around, Nasir felt goosebumps!
Just a few seconds ago, an old man with a cold gaze who had been standing by the stairs had disappeared!
He was the target Nasir had intended to observe, but there was no trace of him in his field of vision. Nasir's heart pounded twice before he could come up with an explanation—
Perhaps that person had left! Yes, that must be it!
There wasn't much to see down here anyway!
Nasir turned his attention to others—
A woman in a green flowered skirt, a middle-aged man in a business suit who looked like an insurance salesman, a white-haired man with a smiling face, a man with a center-parted hairstyle and slightly dark skin, a man with broad arms who looked like he could kill a bull with one punch, and a woman with short hair and a fake smile...
There were about a dozen people in the parking garage, but they weren't gathered together. Some were inspecting their vehicles, some were leaning against the narrow window, gazing at the sea view, and others seemed to be casually strolling.
Individually, they appeared normal, but when such a group of people appeared together, it seemed peculiar.
Moreover, these people seemed to be wary of each other, even though they didn't seem to know each other.
Nasir gently tapped the pipes, trying to discern the conversation between two of them from their lip movements.
"You... want a share of the pie..."
"These... are very valuable resources. We can't let you... We need to... the ship will arrive soon..."
"If necessary, we'll kill... so no one gets it..."
"You won't be able to... these wizards represent a great... Perhaps we can collaborate on magic and alchemy... and also expel..."
One of the men had his back to Nasir, so he could only occasionally see his mouth moving. The other man's words were confusing.
What magic? Did he get it wrong... Were these people discussing a movie? Since magic didn't exist, these people probably weren't up to no good. Nasir's simple mind couldn't understand what was happening, so he decided to observe further.
Soon, he felt a chill down his spine.
The woman in the flowered skirt in the corner had also disappeared!
Was his vision playing tricks on him?
His field of view was indeed a bit blurry, as if fogged up... Nasir lowered his head and rubbed his eyes, then when he looked up, he felt like a few more people had vanished.
Suddenly, chaos erupted among the group. Some jumped up, attacking each other, while others drew their guns, some tried to make calls, and a few attempted to flee...
"Bang!"
A gunshot rang out, and a bullet flew, piercing the thigh of an old man who had been negotiating moments ago.
But he didn't utter a scream; instead, he closed his eyes and collapsed. Nasir only caught a glimpse of a red light that seemed to hit the elderly man.
"Thud!"
"Thud!"
The sounds of bodies hitting the ground filled the air, and the mechanics in the distance hastily retreated, only to suddenly go limp as a powerful sleepiness overcame them, making it impossible to support their own bodies.
"Thud!"
The last person who was barely holding on to consciousness also passed out.
"What's going on?!"
Dar in the car also noticed the anomaly outside. The bearded man in the passenger seat was astonished, feigning surprise while muttering to himself,
"Whose doing is this?"
Thinking about the large sum of money he had lost, he felt a hint of unease and wanted to escape.
Suddenly, thin, steam-like white mist started to seep out from the car's air vents.
"We're under attack! Be careful!"
Dar covered the bearded man's mouth and nose with his hand while holding his breath. With a powerful kick, he opened the car door next to him and dragged the bearded man out! Dar had a bad feeling about this.
- Only a magician could make so many people pass out...
It must be a magician chasing after them! He remembered the leader's apprehension about this land and the legendary old man who had twice prevented the world's most evil dark magician from unleashing a massacre. Dar's unease reached its peak.
But they had planned for so long, and Dar was reluctant to give up easily.
- Even if they couldn't bring everyone back, capturing just one would be enough! As long as they could take Vaid Gre, the leader would be satisfied!
In Dar's pocket was a Portkey, which would activate with a firm squeeze.
It was a means of escape given to him by the leader, to be used only in dire situations.
- By grabbing someone's arm, he could bring them to the leader and change the werewolves' fate of being slaughtered, humiliated, and ostracized by magicians for thousands of years!
Dar dragged the bearded man out of the car, rolled on the ground a couple of times to avoid the anticipated attack, and then used the bearded man as a shield, crouching and rushing towards the back of the truck.
The drawback of most magic spells... they can only target one person at a time!
The bearded man didn't realize he was being used as a shield. In fact, when they jumped out earlier, he had been the one to take the fall, spraining his ankle.
As Dar dragged him, the bearded man hit his head, and unable to hold back, he took a few breaths, causing his head to become dizzy.
He wanted to sleep, but the dangerous situation before him demanded escape. The bearded man mustered his last shred of sanity, forcing his eyes open, only to see Dar's face filled with madness as he quickly opened the iron door at the back of the truck.
"Screech—"
For some reason, the sound of metal scraping was unbearably piercing.
A furry, dark figure leaped out of the truck, enthusiastically embracing Dar and biting down on his head with a click.
"Snap!"
Dar, seemingly wearing a huge black furball, vanished from his spot.
The bearded man stared blankly...
A swarm of calf-sized spiders emerged.
"Ahhhhhh—"
Ear-piercing screams reverberated throughout the entire deck.
