Chapter 307: The Dragon's Allies
Chapter 307: The Dragon’s Allies
Soon, under the Red Dragon’s command, the so-called “allies” were brought into the hall one by one.
Cassius was certain he had never seen them before.
At the forefront was a noblewoman who appeared to be in her twenties. Her black hair cascaded like a waterfall, adorned with a silver headdress, and she wore a luxurious silk robe that exposed a significant portion of her pale, snow-white chest.
She stepped elegantly over the threshold, holding a black silk fan that partially obscured her delicate face. However, her eye sockets showed faint traces of blue, possibly a result of her makeup.
Yet Cassius keenly noticed the faint blue dragon horns peeking through the headdress, the subtle sheen of scales on her smooth skin, and even the slit pupils hidden beneath her lashes. Combined with the faint desert scent she carried, his suspicions were confirmed.
Without hesitation, he asked:
“A Blue Dragon?”
The noblewoman looked up at the Red Dragon lounging on his throne, her mouth slightly agape, her eyes brimming with shock and awe.
She quickly covered her mouth with her fan, smiling coquettishly with a glint in her eye before lifting her skirt with one hand and curtsying. “Greetings to the ‘Dragon Prince,’ Your Highness. Your majestic form leaves me utterly astonished.”
“But you are correct. I am Christina Farias, a Blue Dragon from the Brendan Desert.”
Christina nodded politely but couldn’t resist sneaking glances at the Red Dragon on the throne, her breathing quickening with anticipation.
“By Tiamat, he is even larger and stronger than the rumors claimed.”
“And to think he is only a young dragon.”
Her heart filled with excitement as she thought to herself.
After the destruction of Dragons Shadow City, this dragon had already gained some renown in the Material Plane. Many knew that a powerful Red Dragon resided in the barren lands of Anzeta.
It was said that his body coursed with blood bestowed by Tiamat, granting him an ancient dragon’s size even as a young dragon. Some dragon scholars began referring to him as the “Dragon Prince,” though others expressed doubt.
But now, having seen him in person, all of Christina’s concerns vanished. Though she had set her expectations high, the Red Dragon before her was even more formidable than she had imagined. The bloodline pressure emanating from him was unmistakably real, and his thirty-meter-long, mountain-like form spoke for itself.
“It truly is Tiamat’s blessing… He is to be my future mate.”
“Only such a being is worthy of me.”
Christina admired his robust form without a shred of concealment, indulging in her thoughts.
Her journey to Anzeta wasn’t only to fulfill the Dragon Queen’s mission but to earn Her reward.
As a reward for the Farias family’s loyal service, Tiamat had decreed that the progenitor dragon bloodline would be gifted to them, allowing the Blue Dragon clan to produce even mightier descendants. To claim this reward, they would send their most exceptional young Blue Dragon to unite with the so-called “Dragon Prince” and produce offspring blessed with divine blood.
When this proclamation was made, the entire Farias family was ecstatic. It was as if the sun had risen in the west—no one expected the notoriously stingy Dragon Queen to bestow such an “honor.”
Meanwhile, at the head of the hall, Cassius was slightly puzzled, unaware he had been offered as a reward.
“Why is this Blue Dragon daydreaming?”
“What exactly is she here for?”
“And who came up with this ridiculous ‘Dragon Prince’ title? If I find out who it was, they’ll regret it.”
Cassius silently added this grievance to his mental ledger, vowing to settle it when he traveled south.
However, observing the situation, he could guess Christina’s purpose for coming.
All chromatic dragons held respect for Tiamat, though Red Dragons were notoriously defiant, obeying Her commands only sporadically. In contrast, Blue Dragons, with their deep sense of order, willingly recognized Tiamat as their supreme sovereign and followed most of Her reasonable orders.
This Blue Dragon was undoubtedly Tiamat’s way of planting a “seed” in his kingdom.
After a moment’s thought, Cassius stretched his wings slightly and probed further:
“Did the Dragon Queen send you?”
“You’re right again. But even without Her Majesty’s decree, I would have gladly sought the friendship of a dragon as powerful and incomparable as yourself. I’ve long heard tales of your name in the poetry and stories passed down among mortals.”
“Poetry?”
“That damned bard’s Song of Embers?”
Cassius chuckled coldly. That lying bard had already been captured by Nocturne and was now living out his days in a dungeon. Unfortunately, his wild ballads had already spread beyond the Northlands.
“The views of mortals mean nothing to exalted dragons, do they not? The crude songs of bards could never capture even a fraction of your majesty.”
Christina smiled as she replied.
Cassius simply stared at her expressionlessly, unimpressed by her flattery.
The polite small talk quickly came to an end. Realizing that Cassius was growing impatient, Christina’s demeanor turned serious.
“Lord Cassius, I come bearing a decree from the Dragon Queen Herself.”
“I know. Go on.”
Cassius, having anticipated this, spoke calmly.
Christina stole a quick glance at the Red Dragon, noticing his indifferent gaze. She silently marveled at how accustomed he seemed to receiving decrees directly from the Dragon Queen. Truly worthy of the title “Dragon Prince.”
“Elder Oszedro of the Melward Clan, who has recently ascended to an Ancient Silver Dragon, has arrived in the Anzeta Wasteland.”
“He is a meddlesome creature who has repeatedly obstructed Her Majesty’s grand plans. That old fool also hoards spells like a maniac and possesses spellcasting abilities comparable to a legendary mage. You must be cautious.”
“Oszedro, is it…”
“So, he’s come already.”
Cassius had already received intelligence from the Harpers and wasn’t particularly surprised. He rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
After some deliberation, he asked again:
“So you’ve come just to inform me of this?”
“Of course not, Lord Cassius. I bring the goodwill of the Farias family as well. If that old Silver Dragon makes a move, it will be a conflict between metallic dragons and chromatic dragons. We will not concede even an inch of space—this is the shared resolve of all chromatic dragons.”
Cassius gazed beyond the palace walls, his sight extending for hundreds of meters. Sure enough, he spotted twelve humanoid Blue Dragons quietly waiting outside.
Most were adult or prime-aged dragons, and one was even an elder Blue Dragon—an impressive force in Anzeta, enough to annihilate an ordinary duchy.
On the surface, Cassius remained calm, but inwardly, he sneered.
“Heh, typical Tiamat. Subtly twisting the notion of ‘my kingdom’ into ‘all chromatic dragons’ territory,’ while generously dispatching so many loyal Farias Blue Dragons. It’s clear She intends to extend Her influence into my kingdom.”
“But… does She think I’ll allow it so easily?”
