Chapter 307: The Ambush
Chapter 307: The Ambush
The assistant argued, "That's the security detail assigned to Director Zhao, provided by the company. Why can't they come with us? If something happens to Director Zhao, can you take responsibility for that?"
You Sun remained unmoved, his tone cold and unsympathetic, "That's true within Central City, but during a transport mission, every individual is part of the convoy's defense. Even Director Zhao himself is included. However, considering his physical discomfort, I personally agreed to let him return."
If Director Zhao feels this arrangement is inappropriate, he can send a telegram to the headquarters to file a complaint. As long as the headquarters approve, I personally have no objections."
Zhao Qian reached out to stop the assistant from continuing the debate. Sending and receiving a telegram would take a lot of time, and as his condition gradually worsened, he couldn't afford to delay any longer. He had to return as soon as possible, and with Chi Duan's escort, they should be able to handle most situations.
The assistant immediately understood his intention, swallowed his frustration towards You Sun, and promptly detached this vehicle from the convoy, stopping behind it. Chi Duan also boarded this vehicle, making it easier to provide protection.
The entire transport convoy drove forward through the billowing dust, while they turned around and headed back towards Central City.
Just twenty minutes later, when they were still some distance away from returning to Central City, a person suddenly appeared in the middle of the National Highway ahead.
Chi Duan couldn't help but straighten up and look at that person. This scene made him feel a sense of deja vu. The same National Highway, the same majestic figure, and the same himself sitting in a luxury car, made him feel like time had become distorted in this moment.
Zhao Qian was currently lying on the side seat. He keenly sensed something amiss and asked weakly, "What's going on?"
Chi Duan sighed and said, "Someone is blocking the way. Director Zhao, do you remember the last time I went to Yangzhi? It was this person who stopped me."
The moment Zhao Qian heard these words, his expression changed abruptly because he knew who Chi Duan was talking about. Even if he himself was still in good condition, facing this person, they might not be a match even if they joined forces.
Chi Duan considered for a moment and said, "I can try to hold him off for a while, but Director Zhao, you'll have to walk the rest of the way."
Zhao Qian decisively said, "That's the best decision."
A fighter could run faster than a vehicle in a short time, and it wasn't difficult for them to disrupt a vehicle's balance and equipment. So, if no one confronted the person in front, he could easily overturn the vehicle. Hiding in the car and avoiding the fight was definitely not a good idea.
Someone had to go down and block him.
Chi Duan turned to the assistant and said, "Take good care of Director Zhao." After saying this, he pushed the door open and walked down.
Zhao Qian waited for his footsteps to pass by and then whispered, "Drive!"
The driver responded and quickly turned the steering wheel to the side, increasing the speed.
Zhao Qian couldn't see the situation outside, but he could hear the sounds of fists and feet colliding. As they passed by a certain spot, the car shook violently, as if jumping, and then landed heavily a moment later, stabilizing. The driver's breathing became rapid in an instant.
However, soon, the car moved away from those collision sounds.
At this moment, Zhao Qian felt the abnormality in his body seemed to have disappeared. He regained some strength and took out a piece of paper from his pocket, handing it to the assistant, and instructed, "Send this telegram."
This was his backup plan, but he wasn't sure if it would be in time.
After the assistant went to send the telegram, he drank some water and put himself into a sleep state. He needed to use sleep to accelerate his recovery.
However, it seemed like he had just closed his eyes when he felt the car slow down again. Zhao Qian was very sensitive to this change and opened his eyes immediately. He sensed that the assistant was tense and seemed to be trembling slightly. He realized something and said in a low voice, "Help me up."
The assistant quickly helped him sit up. Zhao Qian looked ahead and saw a car parked on the side of the road. A figure holding a long sword stood there, with a reddish-brown scarf covering the lower half of his face. The scarf danced in the wind.
The assistant was sweating profusely and said anxiously, "Director, that's the uniform of the Ministry of General Affairs. What should we do?"
Zhao Qian looked at the figure, narrowed his eyes, and said calmly, "Send another telegram. Send our current location and position."
The assistant quickly put on the headphones.
Zhao Qian stared ahead. Although he hadn't actually met Chen Chuan, he had seen his photo before. In that instant, when he saw that figure, he instinctively felt that the person standing in front of him was Chen Chuan. He thought for a moment and instructed the driver, "Go forward!"
"Yes."
The driver immediately stepped on the accelerator, increasing the speed, and drove towards the standing figure. In fact, he had been thinking that when he encountered the fighter earlier, it would have been better to just crash into him instead of getting out of the car.
Chen Chuan stood there holding the Xuejun Blade. Although they weren't in the city, he couldn't see the monster tearing and biting like when Youshang did, but he could sense from the monster's feedback that this time's destructive force wasn't small.
The return of this special vehicle further proved that Zhao Qian had suffered a serious injury and had to return to Central City.
Everything was as he had thought.
Next, it was time to settle things.
As he watched the vehicle accelerate towards him, he didn't dodge but instead walked forward, increasing his pace. Just before the two collided, he took a big step to the left, spun around, and slashed the long knife towards the speeding car! Zhao Qian's pupils shrank, and he leaned back.
The top of the vehicle was suddenly sliced open by the blade, and as the sword cut through the metal protective plate, a trail of flickering sparks erupted, spreading from the front to the back, nearly splitting the entire roof in half.
As Chen Chuan passed by the vehicle, he stopped and turned back to see the car wobble unsteadily after a short distance. The driver, whom he had intentionally spared, was now struggling to control the vehicle due to the severed connection rods and shattered windows.
Chen Chuan took a step forward, and everything around him suddenly slowed down. His body shot out, weaving through the airborne glass shards, and in an instant, he appeared behind the car. He leaned his shoulder against it, and the entire vehicle lost its balance, skidding sideways until it slammed into the roadside guardrail and came to a stop.
Chen Chuan reached up to adjust his top hat and slowly walked towards the car with his sword in hand.
Inside the vehicle, the driver sat frozen in fear, watching as the figure in the rearview mirror approached. Now he understood why the man had asked him to stop.
Zhao Qian lay inside, unconscious due to not wearing his seatbelt. Despite his severe injuries, his fighter's physique allowed him to escape unscathed.
He quickly searched and pulled out a cooler from under the seat. Opening it, a gust of cold air escaped, and he took out a syringe, injecting its crimson liquid into his neck.
Instantly, a surge of power filled his entire body, and he seemed to regain his vitality. After taking a deep breath, he reached up and released a longsword from the ceiling.
He grabbed it and kicked open the car door, stepping out. Initially, he appeared weak, but as he emerged into the open air, he gradually straightened his body and approached Chen Chuan.
Fixing his gaze on Chen Chuan's dark eyes above his scarf, Zhao Qian took a few steps before suddenly disappearing from his original position and reappearing in front of Chen Chuan. He threw a punch at him.
However, just as his fist was halfway through its trajectory, it was caught by a hand, and the sheath of the longsword struck his cheek, sending him flying.
In midair, he tried to adjust his body, but his altered organs and internal organs had suffered severe damage, making it impossible to control his movements. He crashed to the ground, rolled a few times, and finally pushed himself up, staring at Chen Chuan. "You've taken the medicine..."
He had intended to rely on his Third Limit speed to take down Chen Chuan in one go, but Chen Chuan had somehow kept up with his movements, indicating that he had taken the medicine beforehand.
Wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand, he spat out several broken teeth. He grabbed the sword, gave it a light shake, and the blade slid out of the partially open sheath. Holding the hilt with both hands, he raised the sword and pointed it at Chen Chuan.
As Chen Chuan walked forward, he lifted the Xuejun Blade, and with a gentle wipe of his other hand, the sheath flew away. He strode steadily towards Zhao Qian.
When Zhao Qian was close enough, he tapped his foot and lunged forward. Mid-motion, he lowered his body, switching to a single-handed grip on the sword. The blade flashed, and he thrust towards Chen Chuan's face.
Chen Chuan lifted the Xuejun Blade] to parry, but Zhao Qian swiftly retracted the sword, avoiding the blade. With lightning speed, he thrust forward again. Chen Chuan's continuous blade movements brought the sword down, and if Zhao Qian didn't change his attack, he would be sliced in mid-air.
Zhao Qian changed his technique again, raising the sword with both hands and twisting his waist and abdomen to use this force to deflect Chen Chuan's attack. He then smoothly redirected the momentum, swinging the sword back from the other side. This attack would have sliced Chen Chuan diagonally in half.
However, as their weapons made contact, a powerful force surged through the sword, and any technique or momentum required strength to support it. Without sufficient altered organs, Zhao Qian couldn't withstand the force, unable to parry the attack, and his longsword was even knocked away.
In the next moment, he saw a flash of the blade and felt a chill down his spine. The strength he had gained from the medicine quickly dissipated, and before he could go limp, he felt his vision slowly rising.
Chen Chuan pierced Zhao Qian with a single strike, holding the hilt with one hand and steadily raising his arm, he slowly lifted Zhao Qian into the air. Calmly gazing at him, Chen Chuan asked, "Was it you who took away Senior Shen's sister? Where is she now?"
Blood continued to flow from the corner of Zhao Qian's mouth, and he managed a smile filled with malice. "So, you want to know that? I won't tell you. You'll never find her."
At that moment, Chen Chuan sensed something and turned his gaze towards the rear. He spotted a person squatting on top of the guardrail, wearing protective goggles and a motorcycle helmet. Narrow blades extended from his arms, seemingly restrained by implants.
Chen Chuan turned to look, and the person grinned, lowering his goggles and standing up straight. He looked at Zhao Qian and said, "Are you the employer? Am I late or not?"
