Chapter 307: Scabbers: I'm So Hard Up!
Chapter 307: Scabbers: I’m So Hard Up!
After a full day of classes and spending a large part of the evening on potions, Ivan was utterly exhausted when he returned to the dormitory.
Harry and Ron were leisurely playing Wizard Chess in the dorm, a carefree life for young wizards around thirteen or fourteen.
Ivan gave them an envious glance before his gaze fell on Scabbers, who was munching on a Every Flavour Bean.
Scabbers shivered under Ivan’s “evil” gaze, not forgetting Ivan’s threat to use him in potion experiments.
No, I can’t stay here any longer.
I’m leaving tonight!
At midnight, in the Gryffindor dormitory, a grayish-black rat suddenly opened its eyes. After cautiously scanning the room and confirming everyone was asleep, it let out a sigh of relief.
Then Scabbers slowly moved its tiny legs off Ron’s bed, but it was so fat that getting down was a struggle, almost rolling off.
Finally reaching the dormitory door, Peter looked at the high doorknob with difficulty, considering whether to transform back to his human form. The young wizards should be deeply asleep and wouldn’t wake up suddenly.
But taking this step meant he would be leaving his current life of idleness and free meals behind.
Peter suddenly felt so hard up!
These days, even being a rat wasn’t peaceful, always someone trying to make things difficult for him.
Peter glared at Ivan’s bed with a menacing look. Before meeting Ivan, he had been smoothly living as a rat for over a decade.
If it weren’t for the concern that killing Ivan would cause a significant stir at Hogwarts and expose him, he would have acted long ago.
The thought flashed through Peter’s mind, but he quickly noticed that Ivan’s bed seemed empty, the blanket flat and lifeless.
Where is he?
A chill ran through Peter’s heart as a low voice sounded behind him.
“Great, I was just thinking about how to get you out of Ron’s bed.”
Peter turned around sharply, only to see a blinding spell light. He felt his body become extremely weak, as if he hadn’t eaten for days, unable to even speak.
Peter watched in terror as Ivan approached step by step, then felt his tail being lifted, leaving him powerless to do anything but weakly wave his paws.
Snap
Ivan opened the dormitory door and walked out, carrying the grayish-black rat toward the Room of Requirement on the eighth floor.
After struggling for a while and finding it futile, Peter reluctantly gave up and obediently stayed in Ivan’s hand, trembling as he looked around, wondering where this young wizard was taking him so late at night.
Ivan walked back and forth three times in the wide corridor on the eighth floor, lined with many portraits, and mentally repeated:
I need a room for brewing potions!
In the next moment, a plain wall suddenly sprouted a beautifully decorated door. Ivan, familiar with the routine, opened the door and entered the Room of Requirement.
Peter’s eyes widened as he saw a vast space behind the door, resembling a potion classroom. Each long redwood table had a cauldron, bubbling with various potions, steam continuously rising from the cauldrons.
In his student days, he often explored this ancient castle with James, Lupin, and others, searching for hidden secrets. Peter thought he knew the castle well, but he never imagined there were still such magical places they had never discovered.
Ivan casually tossed Peter into a corner and ignored him, turning to check the brewing status of the Potion.
After all, he would use the Obliviate spell to erase Peter’s memory when they left, making him forget everything.
Peter, however, had no secrets from Ivan. He still harbored a sliver of hope, thinking that no one could see through his Animagus form; he was just a guinea pig for the Potion experiment.
Peter tried to comfort himself.
Just then, a sudden sound of something breaking echoed through the silent Room of Requirement.
Peter turned to see that one of the cauldrons had burst, spilling a murky liquid onto the wooden table. The liquid burned through the wood like sulfuric acid, hissing and creating a large hole.
Peter watched this, swallowing hard, his eyes welling up with tears.
He felt he might not survive today.
"Indeed, adding Blackstone Powder to the Polyjuice Potion turns it into a deadly poison", Ivan said, not surprised at the burst cauldron.
This confirmed what Snape had told him before, but the Potions had been brewing for several days, and he hadn’t had the chance to remove them yet.
Ivan walked to each cauldron, checking the brewing status of the Potions. He then divided the completed Potions into vials and approached the gray-black rat in the corner.
Peter was frightened. He tried to curl up, hoping to make himself less noticeable, but it was clearly useless.
As Ivan drew closer, Peter had a sudden idea. He let out a shrill scream, his body convulsing violently. He then kicked his legs and foamed at the mouth, as if he had fallen ill, and collapsed to the side.
He thought that if he looked this pitiful, the young wizard in front of him wouldn’t torture him further.
Peter’s acting skills left Ivan impressed. He, of course, knew Peter’s physical condition. Over the past decade, he had eaten and slept like a rat, never falling ill. How could he suddenly be sick now?
Even if he were sick, it wouldn’t prevent him from drinking the Polyjuice Potion, right?
Ivan moved a few steps closer and pointed his Wand at the gray-black rat’s head, channeling magic into it. He “saw” the protective force surrounding Scabbers’ head and increased the magic input.
Although Ivan couldn’t undo the Animagus counter-curse, he was an Animagus himself and knew exactly how to force Peter back to his human form.
Soon, the gray-black rat began to tremble even more violently than before.
Peter, feigning death on the ground, was in excruciating pain.
What terrified him even more was that his body began to distort and transform. His limbs stretched out, and his head grew larger.
Peter remembered this feeling from over a decade ago, indicating that his Animagus form was being reversed.
