Chapter 307: A Career for Fun
Chapter 307: A Career for Fun
Somelie took a deep breath.
He suddenly recalled that when this student took the stage, someone had introduced him as a first-year freshman. And before that, he had been wearing a yellow uniform.
Somelie was aware of the basic rules of Duel Academy. The student dormitories were divided into blue, yellow, and red, each representing a strict hierarchy of rankings.
Students in blue uniforms were the elites, and some of the newcomers in the professional sphere had come from the blue dormitory of Duel Academy. The red dormitory, on the other hand, was for the underachievers, and in the academy's history, no student from this dorm had ever made it to the professional league. They were considered novices struggling to pass.
While the yellow dormitory students weren't necessarily weak, they were likely just average. This person, dressed in yellow, should have been a reflection of their true strength, placing them in the middle tiers of the academy's rankings.
This was Somelie's naive thought before the duel.
But now, he just wanted to find the principal of this academy and have a serious chat about their management issues.
In particular, he wanted to question their reasoning for placing such a novice in the yellow dormitory.
Somelie, ranked eighth among professionals, deeply doubted the faculty's eye for talent and judgment.
Was this person only worthy of the yellow dormitory in their school?
He suddenly felt the urge to drag out the principal, grab him by his bald head, and challenge this yellow-dormitory student himself.
Come on, let's see if you can win against this guy.
Then, make me understand what you mean by a yellow-dormitory student.
"Well, that was quite a duel, wasn't it?" Professor Cronos said, stepping forward with a smile.
"I believe everyone should have gained some insights from this duel, whether big or small."
Somelie: "I..."
Insights? What insights?
In theory, he had been invited as a renowned professional teacher to educate the students. But now, he felt like he was the one being taught a lesson.
Was this person truly a student? Or had they specifically dug up some hidden expert to humiliate him?
Then, Professor Cronos turned to You Xuan: "You Xuan, while your duel was impressive, I'd like to see your true main deck next time.
Your classmates are also very interested in your current deck. That way, we can all gain more guidance and insights through duels."
"Of course, Professor. I'll be sure to do that next time," You Xuan replied with a smile.
Somelie: "?"
He suddenly felt like he hadn't understood something.
Wait, what do you mean by "true main deck"? Are you saying that the deck he just used to crush me was still him holding back?
Somelie stared at You Xuan in shock.
And yet, the latter remained polite and courteous, smiling and nodding at him.
"Thank you for your guidance, Senior."
Somelie: "."
He felt like he was going crazy.
A thought even crossed his mind: In the future, he should encourage more newcomers from the professional sphere to come and gain experience at Duel Academy.
Being a professional is just for fun. If you truly want to prove yourself, you should spend more time at Duel Academy.
As for himself?
Hehe.
He probably wouldn't be back in his lifetime.
Mr. Somelie, the eighth-ranked professional, left with a bitter smile.
As he watched the professional duelist's retreating figure, Manjimoto also fell into a deep contemplation.
Disruptor, the disruptor.
But now, Manjimoto's mindset was different from when he had witnessed You Xuan's brutal victory in the representative battle earlier.
He no longer felt as averse to the term "disruptor" as he had when he was personally on the field. In fact, as he watched the Disruptor Trio charge in, sticking their faces into the mud and instantly defeating the professional player, he felt a stir in his heart, as if something taboo had been touched upon.
Over time, Manjimoto gradually forgot about that feeling.
Now, witnessing the joy brought about by the Disruptors from a bystander's perspective, something stirred within Manjimoto once more.
Could the Disruptor deck truly have potential?
"Big brother, look, we're not that bad," said the Disruptor Yellow Sprite. "There's a saying, 'There are no useless cards, only useless duelists.' With your brilliance and superb dueling skills, you could surely unleash our brothers' true power, just like Lord You Xuan."
"Shut up!" Manjimoto snapped. "Don't even think about it. I would never use trash cards like you; it goes against my entire character!"
"Big brother is so mean," Disruptor Yellow muttered softly. "But I clearly saw you sneaking to the store yesterday to pick through the pile of unwanted cards and buying some Disruptor components. Admit it, big brother, you're secretly building a Disruptor deck!"
Manjimoto's face turned red.
"Shut your trap!" Manjimoto yelled. "I was just trying to know my enemy! Doesn't mean I'm going to use your garbage deck!"
"Even if my deck gets confiscated, even if I end up at the bottom of the academy, even if I suffer eternal damnation, I, Manjimoto, will absolutely, definitely, never use a trash deck like the Disruptors!"
"That's so mean, big brother!"
As they left the venue, You Xuan stretched lazily.
Ah, that felt good.
Dueling was indeed a relaxing and enjoyable pastime. After that match, he felt much better.
Exchanging insights with a professional player had its benefits. You Xuan considered finding time to duel online using the Link System. He had heard that there were quite a few pro players online, and it could be a great opportunity for further exchanges.
Conversely, dueling against professionals would also be excellent training for them. After all, they didn't often encounter such interesting duels in their regular professional matches, and it would broaden their horizons, sharpen their adaptability, and strengthen their mental fortitude.
Speaking of matches, You Xuan suddenly remembered that Kei had reminded him to register for the tournament.
So, he took out his terminal, opened the registration interface for the Duel City tournament, and filled out the necessary information and application.
And that was when Judai appeared.
"Wow, You Xuan, you're amazing!" Judai exclaimed, popping up beside him and patting his shoulder. "A pro! A professional player! And he was completely helpless against you!"
"You would've done the same," You Xuan replied with a smile.
That was the truth. After all, he was a student of the Yellow Dormitory, and Judai was at the bottom of the Osiris Red Dormitory. Letting a pro experience the power of a below-average student at their academy would surely make them question their life choices again.
"Darn it, so jealous! You Xuan dueled a pro, and I didn't get a chance," Judai grumbled, then noticed the form You Xuan was filling out. "Hey, what's that?"
"Oh, it's a registration form for the Duel City GX tournament. It's about to start during our winter break."
Judai's eyes lit up.
"Duel City? As in the legendary one? Won't there be tons of strong duelists participating?" Judai asked excitedly. "Can I? Can I come too?"
