Chapter 305: The Tides of Time
Chapter 305: The Tides of Time
"Oh, is that so..."
Vold didn't find Will's resentment and ingratitude surprising, but he couldn't help but feel sorry for Remus.
He paused for a moment, intending to say something, but then realized that the person before him was only speaking his heart under the influence of the potion, and no amount of scolding or mockery would elicit a reaction, let alone repentance.
Thinking this, Vold found it rather uninteresting. He leaned back in his chair and spoke calmly, "Tell me about the 'him' you mentioned, the one who gave you a dream and made you willingly follow him—who is he? What's his name?"
"I... we call him the Leader... sometimes also Alpha."
Will's face showed reverence as he murmured, "He's like a father, guiding us forward. He made us realize that our birth has meaning..."
The man rambled on and on, praising and worshipping 'Alpha' without providing any substantial information.
This poor guy seemed to have only grand and empty words in his head, with no practical strategies whatsoever.
Vold frowned and interrupted him, asking, "You've seen him, haven't you? What does he look like?"
"He... he looks to be in his forties or fifties, very handsome and charming... brown hair, and on his arm, there's... a butterfly tattoo..."
Will's speech became increasingly difficult, and suddenly his body straightened as if pulled by an invisible force, followed by the chair falling to the ground. He struggled painfully, his throat emitting short, agonized cries of "Ahh!"
Vold 'saw' black mist emerging from Will's teeth, eyes, and nails, enveloping his entire body like spider silk, tightening its grip.
He knew this was some kind of deadly curse.
In normal vision, Will appeared to have suddenly fallen ill, his face turning pale and his body trembling.
The curse seemed to diminish the effects of the truth serum, and Will's eyes momentarily cleared. He looked at Vold with longing and said with difficulty, "Save... save..."
Vold squatted down and looked at the man with bloodshot eyes, saying, "This is a curse cast by Alpha. Once you reveal the secret, the curse will kill you..."
Looking at the bulging eyes, he whispered, "I can save you. But after removing the curse, you'll become my spy."
Upon hearing this, Will, who was struggling for his life, suddenly widened his eyes in disbelief. He glared at Vold with resentment, clenching his teeth tightly, and stopped pleading for help.
As the man convulsed uncontrollably, the chair made clacking sounds against the floor, gradually fading until silence prevailed.
Vold closed his eyes and stood up.
"Meow~"
A soft, kittenish meow came from behind him.
One by one, fluffy little heads poked through the doorway, and several kittens crouched there, gazing at their master.
These were Vold's Puppet Creatures, and they looked almost indistinguishable from real cats.
Vold walked over, picked up one of the kittens, and cradled it in his arms, stroking its ears.
A kitten walked over, nudged the man on the floor with its soft paw, then turned to look at Vold and meowed softly.
"Meow, he's dead~"
"Yeah, let's give the spiders a treat," Vold said, feeling a bit down.
So, several kittens bit onto the man's clothes or chains, dragging the body and chair out with a clattering sound.
Vold sat quietly for a moment, mentally reviewing the recent troublesome events he had encountered, and he clearly felt the stirrings of a storm caused by the fluttering of a butterfly's wings.
Why were there more and more forces mentioned in the original work, and why was the situation becoming increasingly complex? In Harry Potter's seventh year, and even in the nineteen years after that, it seemed there was only one wave of enemies—Voldemort and his Death Eaters.
But now, more and more hidden forces beneath the surface were being exposed.
Vold closed his eyes and thought for a long time, his mind settling on a hidden reason.
—The Friend Ledger.
The impact of a portable and affordable communication tool on society was immense... Although wizards already had various means of communication before, Floo Communication, Two-Faced Mirrors, and owls all had their inconveniences.
As for Dumbledore's Patronus Messaging, it was only used by a select few.
The Friend Ledger broke down the barriers and limitations caused by wizards living in isolation, offering portability and efficiency. The near-instantaneous transmission of information accelerated and concealed many developments.
Additionally, due to Vold's influence, changes always seemed to originate from the British Wizarding World, creating a kind of magical gathering effect. Conflicts and contradictions seemed to converge on this island nation, all driven by interests.
In the past, except for certain large-scale events, different Ministries of Magic rarely communicated frequently.
There seemed to be an invisible barrier between magic schools, with no exchange of knowledge or competition. The Triwizard Tournament, which once broke down these barriers, had been discontinued for centuries.
Everyone was content in their own little world, growing wild and free.
But now, the situation was different.
Vold recalled the customers from various countries he had seen at the Magical Workshop when he went to find Will.
Why had they come?—To purchase FlowMirrors.
This product had just been introduced, and news of it had already reached Brazil, nine thousand kilometers away, prompting an immediate response.
Wizards, who were once self-sufficient and mostly isolated, were no longer closed off. The distance between them was rapidly shrinking, and the barriers created by nations and regions were crumbling as the storm of the times gathered silently.
Vold had only caught a glimpse of a small part of it.
He felt a subtle pressure from the chaos he could foresee and then adjusted his mindset, slowly releasing the pressure within.
Problems would always arise... and they would always be resolved.
But for now, the most important thing was to ensure the safety of his family.
Outside, the squeaking sounds from the spider cage had ceased, and a group of eight-eyed giant spiders were vying to devour their fellow spider's limbs.
Several cats crouched nearby, observing with interest. Brooms and mops moved swiftly, cleaning the floor.
Vold's wardrobe space was getting hotter.
However, he had originally wanted to create a fantastical world like Mr. Scamander's, but as it stood now, the space only housed a dozen or so magical creatures, most of which were Vold's Alchemical Creatures.
Vold glanced at the spider cage, which now had more empty space, and then quickly left the wardrobe.
