Chapter 305: Seeking Guidance
Chapter 305: Seeking Guidance
Not far away, Malfoy also noticed that Ivan had easily tamed a Hippogriff. He turned to look at Buckbeak, who still had a proud expression, and his face twisted in displeasure.
Malfoy immediately stepped forward, intending to stroke Buckbeak's feathers.
"Malfoy, you haven't bowed yet!" Goyle and Crabbe hurriedly reminded him.
"Who says I have to bow?" Malfoy sneered, recalling how Ivan hadn't bowed and still gained the Hippogriff's approval. He didn't think he could be any worse than Ivan!
Buckbeak was agitated, scratching the ground with his claws, but Malfoy didn't notice at all.
Although he was somewhat afraid, Malfoy, out of pride, steeled himself and slowly approached Buckbeak, eyes fixed on the creature's movements, ready to retreat at any moment.
Buckbeak had been calmed by Harry earlier, so while he was unhappy with Malfoy's forceful approach, he didn't immediately react.
"This doesn't seem too hard", Malfoy said, seeing that Buckbeak hadn't made any aggressive moves. He appeared calm and even turned to his two cronies, saying, "See, it's easy to subdue it, right? I'm not going to bow to an ugly beast like Potter did!"
Goyle and Crabbe didn't respond. They looked terrified and took a few steps back, trembling.
Malfoy then realized something was wrong. He turned to see Buckbeak's orange, angry eyes staring straight at him, his front legs raised high, and his sharp claws gleaming in the air, ready to strike!
Malfoy felt a chill run through his body and let out a shrill scream.
Hagrid, who was demonstrating for a young wizard, heard the noise and rushed forward to grab Buckbeak's chain, but it was too late.
Just as Malfoy felt he might die, a red light flew out of nowhere and hit him.
Malfoy's body flew through the air like a broken kite, rolling and crashing to the ground, covered in mud.
At the same time, he luckily avoided Buckbeak's claw.
"Stay still, Buckbeak!" Hagrid, using his brute strength, managed to control the angry Hippogriff and tied him to the fence.
Then, Hagrid ran to Malfoy's side to check on him and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that Malfoy was unharmed.
"It almost killed me! That damned beast wanted my life!" Malfoy climbed to his feet, still shaken, and shouted in rage.
Hagrid seemed at a loss, not expecting such a bad start to his first class.
"Enough, Malfoy! We all saw that you didn't bow as Hagrid instructed, or Buckbeak wouldn't have attacked you!" Harry couldn't help but rebuke him.
"If it weren't for that spell, that monster would have killed me!" Malfoy shouted, turning to Goyle and Crabbe.
"You did a good job, who saved me just now?"
In Malfoy's mind, only they would have saved him. It seemed his cronies, though foolish, were still useful in a pinch.
However, Goyle and Crabbe quickly shook their heads, indicating they had done nothing.
Malfoy was confused. If not them, who else?
"The one who saved you was Ivan, Malfoy!" Ron sneered.
"That's impossible!" Malfoy's face turned red and blue, and he shouted.
He looked at the others, and many young wizards nodded, having seen Ivan draw his Wand and cast a spell.
Malfoy then turned to Ivan, his face flushed, trying to say something but failing to speak.
What made Malfoy the most uncomfortable was that Ivan didn't even look at him or come forward to mock him. It was as if he had done something trivial.
Due to Malfoy's attack, the Care of Magical Creatures class was cut short.
After class, Ivan and the others returned to the castle.
"You shouldn't have saved Malfoy! He didn't even say thank you!" Ron grumbled halfway, thinking Ivan's actions were unworthy.
Harry nodded, agreeing with Ron.
"Would Ivan just stand by and watch Malfoy be eaten by Buckbeak? Hagrid might have ended up in Azkaban!" Hermione countered.
They both realized this and fell silent, feeling a bit guilty.
Ivan didn't mind at all. He had saved Malfoy just to ensure he would behave for the rest of the year, so Buckbeak wouldn't be executed, and Hagrid wouldn't be devastated, dragging Ivan into the mess and wasting his time.
As it turned out, Ivan's strategy was effective. For a while, Malfoy avoided them and even stopped mentioning the Dementors.
This improved Harry's mood, but it only lasted until the next day's Potions class, where Snape's various point deductions ruined everything.
"Miss Granger, I'll say this one last time, Longbottom must complete the Shrinking Solution on his own. For your interference, Gryffindor loses five points!"
"Potter! You must find Longbottom's antics amusing, right? Gryffindor loses another five points!"
"And Longbottom! If you can't complete the Shrinking Solution independently by the end of class, Gryffindor will lose ten points!"
Throughout the Potions class, Snape circled around them, deducting most of the points Hagrid had awarded the previous day.
Harry and Ron were furious, convinced Snape was deliberately targeting them.
After class, Ivan didn't immediately use the Time Turner to go back a few hours for the next class. Instead, he intercepted Snape, who was about to leave.
"Professor Snape! I have a few questions about potions that I'd like to ask you."
"I thought I explained everything clearly in class", Snape paused, looking somewhat impatient.
Ivan ignored Snape's attitude and asked, "It's not a question from the book, Professor! I want to know what happens if someone dies while under the effects of a long-lasting potion?"
