Chapter 305: Hall of Heroes (2)
Chapter 305: Hall of Heroes (2)
September 25, 2017
Hall of Heroes Blueprint
Building Type: Territory Shrine Military Building
Construction Requirements: 300 Purple Sandalwood, 1000 Cinnabar, 3000 Brass, 1 High-Level Priestess
Building Effects:
Effect 1: The Hall of Heroes records the names of fallen warriors, and after receiving offerings, there is a chance that these warriors will be transformed into heroic spirits.
Effect 2: ??? (Activates with Soul Stones)
Effect 3: ??? (???)
These are the attributes of the Hall of Heroes blueprint, and within the completed Hall, there are three additional structures or affiliated items.
At the very center stands a two-meter-tall stone monument, known as the Monument of Heroes, which serves as the core artifact of the Hall.
The Monument of Heroes is used to record the names of fallen generals and soldiers, allowing people to pay their respects. A level one Monument can only record 3,030 names.
This may seem like a lot, but out of the 3,030 names, 3,000 are soldiers, and only 30 are for generals. The Monument can only display these 30 names at a time.
Having both names and visual representations makes it easier for these individuals to become heroic spirits through the power of faith. The names of the 3,000 soldiers, however, remain hidden within the monument, only revealing themselves to close relatives or descendants who come to pay their respects.
In theory, anyone has the potential to become a heroic spirit, but the odds are undoubtedly higher for the 30 generals compared to the 3,000 soldiers.
Lu HaiKong had wanted to inscribe the names of Wang Tian and Wang Xing on the monument, only to find out that they had perished before the Hall's establishment, making it impossible to record their names.
Similarly, the names of the Second Battalion soldiers and members of the Fire Word Regiment who died during the recent aristocratic coalition attack couldn't be recorded either. Lu HaiKong was somewhat dissatisfied with this situation, but there was nothing he could do.
Aside from the Monument of Heroes, there are two other affiliated items: a Spirit Map and a mysterious door.
Lu HaiKong wasn't sure what the door was for, and both the system and his appraisal technique indicated that the door's function was currently locked and required a special item to activate.
Neither the system nor his appraisal technique provided any clues as to what kind of special item was needed to activate it, which was a bit frustrating. However, Lu HaiKong had anticipated this and was prepared, so he easily accepted it and turned his attention to the Spirit Map.
Initially, the Spirit Map was also inactive, requiring a special item to activate, but Lu HaiKong had been ready for this. He had been keeping the Soul Stone he obtained from killing Pei YuanShao for this very moment.
As expected, when Lu HaiKong took out the Soul Stone, the Spirit Map's effect was activated.
Spirit Map
Item Type: Hall of Heroes Affiliated Item
Item Description: Can absorb Soul Stones, transforming them into heroic spirits that reside within the painting.
The Spirit Map was originally blank, devoid of any images, just a plain white canvas.
But when Lu HaiKong used Pei YuanShao's Soul Stone, a vivid silhouette of Pei YuanShao appeared on the Spirit Map, along with a background depicting the Black Wind Fort where he was slain.
The Spirit Map was quite large, measuring around two meters in length and fifty centimeters in width. The image of Pei YuanShao only occupied a tenth of its area, clearly indicating that the Spirit Map could accommodate ten more Soul Stones.
Lu HaiKong still had several Soul Stones on hand, and upon seeing this, he took them all out, ready to use them.
"The Soul Stone you are using is an ordinary one, and there is a chance of failure during the process. If it fails, the Soul Stone will be damaged. Do you still wish to proceed?"
Although it seemed a bit unfair, Lu HaiKong quickly realized that it was normal for a historical martial general's Soul Stone to be more special than a regular one. He didn't mind this, especially since he had easily recruited Dian Wei and Xi ZhiCai. Lu HaiKong was confident in his luck, believing that he couldn't possibly damage even one Soul Stone.
With this confidence, Lu HaiKong generously used the Soul Stones, but to his surprise, the first one failed.
Well, luck is unpredictable, and it can fluctuate. It's normal to have both good and bad outcomes, and failing once or twice is not unusual. Lu HaiKong regrouped and continued his efforts.
'Crack!' Another Soul Stone shattered. Lu HaiKong couldn't take it anymore and decided to throw in all the Soul Stones he had. He was certain that his luck couldn't be that bad, and with so many Soul Stones, at least one or two should succeed.
However, to his surprise, none of them worked. Not a single one succeeded.
Lu HaiKong had spent a month tirelessly brushing through the Horse Bandit Camp and the Mountain Bandit Camp, and now all the Soul Stones he had collected, including the ones he had saved up, were gone in an instant. Lu HaiKong was heartbroken.
However, Lu HaiKong realized that there was an implicit requirement for using Soul Stones on the Spirit Map. One of them was definitely that non-historical figures were not allowed, and for non-historical figures, Lu HaiKong estimated that those with a Strength below 80 would likely not benefit much from the process.
This realization came at a cost, as Lu HaiKong had lost nearly ten Soul Stones before figuring it out, a painful lesson.
Despite the initial disappointment, Lu HaiKong was pleasantly surprised by the effectiveness of the Spirit Map. The heroes within it could be challenged, such as the current image of Pei YuanShao, who could be challenged once every three days.
The challenges were almost unconditional. The Pei YuanShao in the Spirit Map would adjust his strength according to the challenger's abilities, typically equalizing the playing field. This meant that even an ordinary mountain bandit could have a chance, although the success rate might be lower.
Understanding this, Lu HaiKong immediately selected a member from the Fire Word Regiment who was skilled with the Great Saber to undertake the first challenge. Whether it was beginner's luck or Zhao Lun's keen eye, the chosen member succeeded on the first try.
This Fire Word Regiment member, who originally had a Strength of 59, successfully inherited Pei YuanShao's Savage Heart Technique after the challenge, directly boosting his Strength to level 15 and breaking through to a higher level, a testament to the power of the Spirit Map.
