Chapter 304: Hippogriff
Chapter 304: Hippogriff
As Ivan and the others whispered to each other, Hagrid excitedly guided the young wizards on how to open the Monster Book.
Even Malfoy, who wore a disdainful expression, managed to open his book successfully, as Hagrid had explained the process in great detail. Not following the instructions would only make him look unintelligent.
Seeing this, Hagrid nodded in satisfaction, his booming voice echoing in the air.
"Alright, let's start the class now! Stay here and don't move. I'll go bring the magical creatures over. I'm sure you'll love these little darlings!"
With that, Hagrid strode into the Forbidden Forest, leaving Fang behind to guard their safety.
"I wonder what that oaf will bring over", Malfoy muttered, then turned to Harry. "I bet Potter is secretly hoping it's not a Dementor; he'd be terrified!"
"Malfoy!" Harry was furious and wanted to confront Malfoy, but Hermione and Ron held him back.
This was Hagrid's first class, and it would be best not to engage in a heated conflict with Malfoy.
Before long, Hagrid returned, leading a group of about a dozen creatures.
These creatures were tall and muscular, with peculiar appearances. They had the heads and wings of eagles, but their bodies were like those of horses, as if they were stitched together from two different animals.
However, in the presence of the towering and imposing Hagrid, these Hippogriffs looked particularly helpless, with leather collars around their necks and chains connecting them.
"Come on, come on!" Hagrid gripped the chain with his large, rough hands, shaking it to urge the creatures toward the fence where the students stood.
The young wizards all took a few steps back, staring in horror at these eagle-headed, horse-bodied monsters.
Ivan marveled at Hagrid's boldness, bringing such dangerous creatures to a class of third-year students.
More importantly, these Hippogriffs seemed to be untrained, their defiant orange eyes revealing their wild nature.
But thinking about the other monsters Hagrid had raised, Ivan shook his head. Perhaps to Hagrid, Hippogriffs were already considered relatively safe and well-behaved.
At least Hagrid hadn't brought a Three-headed dog to class for their first meeting.
"Look! Aren't they beautiful?" Hagrid tied the dozen Hippogriffs to the fence and turned to the students. "I bet you've never seen these creatures before. They're Hippogriffs!"
"If you want a closer look, feel free to come closer!" Hagrid said happily, then patted his chest to reassure the wary students.
"Don't worry, Hippogriffs generally don't hurt people! I mean, as long as they're not angry, so don't provoke them!"
Hearing this, the students became even more reluctant to approach. They had initially thought the Hippogriffs were just intimidating to look at, but now they realized there was a real risk of injury.
"Alright, who wants to go first?" Hagrid led a Hippogriff named Buckbeak and enthusiastically asked.
However, no one was willing to make a move. Just as it was about to become awkward, it was Harry who mustered the courage to step forward and help Hagrid out of the predicament.
Ivan, on the other hand, had little interest in these creatures. The hippogriff didn't seem dangerous enough to him, and it lacked any special abilities. It was rated only Xxx in the Ministry of Magic's danger classification, far inferior to a basilisk or a fire dragon. Therefore, this creature didn't make it to his list of potential fusions.
However, for Harry, facing such a strange and massive creature wasn't an easy task. He obediently followed Hagrid's instructions, making eye contact with the hippogriff and gradually earning its trust step by step.
Finally, under Hagrid's repeated urging, Harry dared to gently stroke its head and even rode it for a short flight in the sky.
Harry's success undoubtedly inspired the other young wizards. Seeing that everyone was now interested, Hagrid brought over a few more hippogriffs.
Ivan and Hermione chose a red-brown hippogriff. It looked particularly beautiful, with its head held high and its red-brown fur gleaming in the sunlight.
Ivan took a few steps forward, ready to follow the steps of making eye contact and bowing, but to his surprise, the hippogriff approached him on its own.
Hermione was startled, thinking the creature was about to attack them, but then she realized that the hippogriff was affectionately rubbing against Ivan.
Ivan was equally surprised.
He had already prepared to defend himself, with his protective ring partially activated, ready to use the Sectumsempra spell to slice off the creature's head if necessary.
However, such a drastic action could have triggered a chain reaction, and fortunately, things didn't escalate to that point.
Looking at the large head so close to him, Ivan had a thought and gently stroked the red-brown fur. The hippogriff lazily closed its eyes, showing signs of enjoyment.
Hermione also tried to get closer, mimicking Ivan's actions, reaching out to stroke the hippogriff. However, the creature opened its eyes and glared at her with its orange-yellow eyes, emitting a series of sharp cries.
Hermione was somewhat discontent with the red-brown creature's preferential treatment but had no way to change it. She could only turn to Ivan and ask, "It seems to really like you! Ivan, how did you do it?"
"I don't know", Ivan shook his head. He suspected that the affinity from the unicorn blood might still be in effect, although he had thought it would have disappeared after fusing with the snake blood.
Speaking of which, Malfoy!
Ivan vaguely remembered that during this lesson, Malfoy had angered a hippogriff, sustaining serious injuries, and later tried to have the creature executed.
Not wanting any unexpected events to occur out of his control in the near future, Ivan immediately turned his head to look at Malfoy.
