Chapter 303: Ascending Tower Chronicles (Part 3)
Chapter 303: Ascending Tower Chronicles (Part 3)
The four entered through the building’s main entrance. The first floor was a ten-point-wide space paved with marble tiles, its walls lined with support pillars spaced at regular intervals. Circular ceiling-mounted lights bathed the lobby in a warm glow.
At a glance, the floor appeared completely empty except for the four walls and pillars. Directly opposite the entrance, at the center of the farthest wall, stood a solitary white door. Against the gray backdrop, that single patch of white stood out starkly.
“Hmm… No hints after entering either,” Qiu Feng remarked.
“At least we can confirm the ‘reasoning club’ doesn’t refer to the entire building,” Ji Chang added.
Hong Hu glanced around. “So it must be somewhere inside this building…”
Feng Bu Jue suddenly interjected, “What if… the ‘reasoning club’ isn’t in this building at all? What if it’s elsewhere?”
Hong Hu paused for a few seconds before replying, “That’s possible, but…”
Ji Chang picked up the thread, “However, so far the Opening CG is our only clue. Since this clue points to this building, there must be something here that advances the scenario.”
Qiu Feng nodded, “Even if the reasoning club isn’t here, there should still be task-related hints inside. Otherwise, wouldn’t the system be deliberately misleading us? From what I’ve seen in this game, I’ve never encountered a scenario where the system lured players to a pointless location to waste their time and energy.”
“Oh… I see,” Feng Bu Jue feigned sudden realization, though inwardly he mused, Good analysis, and quite confident too. But… is it really a coincidence that four high-level puzzle-solving players ended up in the same team? If so, what kind of scenario would the system generate to match their abilities?
Weng—
Suddenly, a strange noise echoed from behind the four.
They turned in unison to see the entrance sealed by a blue energy wall.
“Predictable—blocking our exit,” Hong Hu muttered.
Qiu Feng scoffed, “It doesn’t really affect the situation much.”
He was right. None of the three strategists showed panic. Their faces remained calm, undisturbed by the sudden loss of their retreat.
Ji Chang stepped closer to examine the energy wall. “This isn’t a physical laser,” he pointed at the edges, “There’s no device generating beams on any side.”
Hong Hu stroked his chin, eyes gleaming behind his glasses. “A non-physical barrier manifesting from nothing, attached to a specific area… I wonder if it’s magic or…”
Swish—
A glowing poker card flew into view, striking the energy wall head-on.
The death poker vanished instantly, as if swallowed by the wall.
The group turned to the man who’d thrown the card.
“It can directly ‘consume’ a spirit-energy poker—definitely non-physical energy,” Feng Bu Jue explained. “If it were a laser, the card would’ve exploded, scattered, or been cut, not ‘swallowed’ like this.”
“Next time,” Ji Chang sighed, “could you at least consult us before doing something risky?”
“Yeah,” Qiu Feng added, “what if this energy wall triggers a destruction mechanism or reflects attacks? We’d all suffer together.”
“Ah… sorry, sorry,” Feng Bu Jue chuckled. “I just wanted to test it since you said it wasn’t physical. Besides, my poker’s not that powerful.”
Hong Hu ignored the apology, his gaze sharp. “Is that a psionic weapon?”
Feng Bu Jue hesitated. “Yes… it is.”
Qiu Feng and Ji Chang exchanged glances.
“Interesting,” Hong Hu remarked. “You claimed to focus on puzzle-solving, yet you’ve already obtained a psionic weapon.”
Feng Bu Jue’s expression remained smooth, his smile natural. “Oh, this? Just luck, really. Haha…”
The response sounded dismissive but was perfectly reasonable. Psionic weapons were rare, often obtained through chance rather than combat prowess. Many strong fighters lacked them. Thus, owning one didn’t conflict with being a puzzle-solving specialist.
If Feng Bu Jue had elaborated, it would’ve seemed suspicious. Instead, his casual tone, a hint of pride, and a vague excuse formed the most natural reaction. Any other answer would’ve hinted at hidden motives.
Hong Hu paused two seconds before nodding. “Good thing, actually. Since we can’t use satchel items, having a psionic weapon gives us an edge in combat.” He quickly shifted focus. “Now that the exit’s blocked, we’ll have to explore inward.”
“The energy wall confirms we’re on the right path,” Qiu Feng said. “If the reasoning club is here, we won’t need to leave.”
Ji Chang suggested, “Let’s search the first floor thoroughly—check for secret entrances besides that white door.”
Hong Hu added, “Also note the pillar positions, marble tile patterns, and the floor’s dimensions. Even if they seem irrelevant, gathering data won’t hurt.”
“Got it.”
“Understood.”
“Hehe…”
After agreeing, the four split up to investigate the environment.
However, they soon realized the floor held nothing of interest. About seven or eight minutes later, they regrouped at the white door.
