Chapter 302: Leaving the Quidditch Team
Chapter 302: Leaving the Quidditch Team
The four of them were having lunch in the Great Hall, discussing Hagrid's Care of Magical Creatures class in the afternoon.
Harry was a bit worried that Hagrid might make a mess of the class. He had already had that feeling when they bought *The Monster Book of Monsters* at the bookstore.
They all agreed to be more active in Hagrid's class to avoid making him too embarrassed.
Harry suddenly remembered something and turned to say, "By the way, Ivan, Wood asked me to tell you that we'll have our first Quidditch Training of the year this Friday evening!"
Ivan paused his movements with the knife and fork but soon resumed cutting a large piece of steak. He replied casually, "I won't be participating in this training. I plan to leave the Quidditch Team this year. You can tell Wood that for me."
"What? Ivan, you're leaving the Quidditch Team?" Harry exclaimed in surprise, hardly believing his ears.
Harry's voice drew the attention of the young wizards at the Gryffindor table. Not far away, George, who was gnawing on a chicken leg, was so surprised that his mouth dropped open. He couldn't help but come over.
"Why, Ivan? The Gryffindor team can't afford to lose you. We're counting on winning the Quidditch Cup this year!"
Harry and Ron nodded in agreement. They didn't want to see Ivan leave the Quidditch Team either!
"I have too many classes this year and can't spare the time", Ivan said helplessly.
While he had the Time Turner, his previous experiences clearly told him that overusing it could lead to exhaustion and even decline.
This was why Ivan and Hermione had made a schedule. Given this, Ivan certainly wouldn't want to divide his already limited energy on Quidditch.
After all, the same achievements wouldn't likely come again, and the academic points from winning the Quidditch Cup were far less than those from regular classes.
George and the others tried to persuade Ivan for a while, but Ivan remained firm.
"The Gryffindor team is already full, so my leaving won't make much of a difference. Besides, with Harry, the best Seeker, Gryffindor will still win!" Ivan replied.
"Haven't you got enough to do, Ivan? Don't let Quidditch bother him!" Hermione chimed in, glaring at them.
Harry and the others had no choice but to give up.
Not long after, Wood rushed over when he heard the news. He had a stern expression and intended to strongly persuade Ivan to attend Friday's training.
However, before he could say anything, Ivan handed him his schedule for the year.
Wood was speechless after looking at it, almost thinking he had read it wrong.
It wasn't until Ivan suggested he confirm with Professor Mcgonagall, and Hermione showed her own schedule, that Wood believed it.
Ivan was already busy with several classes at once, so Wood naturally couldn't ask him to play Quidditch. In the end, he reluctantly patted Ivan's shoulder and left.
With this problem resolved, Ivan let out a sigh of relief. He had been worried that Wood would insist on him playing Quidditch this year, which would have been quite troublesome.
After lunch, they all picked up their books and headed out of the castle to prepare for their first Care of Magical Creatures class.
Due to the Dementors, the sky over Hogwarts had often been gloomy, but today was unusually clear, with the dark clouds having dispersed.
On the way, Harry and Ron complained about their noisy Monster Books. Even though they had tied the books tightly with ropes, they couldn't keep them quiet all the time.
Hermione had long since used magical tape to seal the biting mouth of the Monster Book, then wrapped it in a cloth and held it against her chest, but the book still struggled to break free.
"Ivan, why is your book so well-behaved?" Hermione looked at Ivan with confusion. He was holding the same book, but it was quietly staying in his hand.
"You just need to know how to handle their weak points. Stroke the spine of the book, and they will behave." Ivan explained, watching Hermione and the others struggle.
Hermione tried it with doubt, running her finger down the spine of the book. The book trembled violently and immediately stopped causing trouble.
"Great, it really works!" Ron also tried it with half a doubt, then exclaimed in surprise. He even opened the book, and it didn’t bite him.
"Ivan, how did you know this method?" Ron asked curiously, betting that even the salespeople at Flourish and Blotts didn’t know this trick.
When he and Harry claimed they wanted to buy two Monster Books, the store clerks were almost in tears. It was said that people were bitten during the inventory process.
"Someone has cast a living enchantment on the book. If you find the weakest point of the magic, you can temporarily interrupt its effect!" Ivan explained.
Since the two blood fusions, Ivan’s perception had become much sharper, and his alchemy skills were very high, so he easily figured out the principle behind the Monster Book.
Clearly, the maker of this book had a rather twisted sense of humor.
"Really, who would use such a method to make a magic book?" Ron grumbled.
As they chatted, Ivan and the others soon saw Hagrid’s hut, which was unusually lively with about forty to fifty people. It seemed this extracurricular class was quite popular.
However, the Slytherin students were also there, and Harry even spotted Malfoy, which made his otherwise good mood a bit sour.
The tall Hagrid stood straight at the door of his hut, wearing his mole-skin coat and looking very excited as he counted heads. Once everyone was present, he waved his large hand and called the young wizards towards the Forbidden Forest.
The young wizards were both worried and excited because Dumbledore emphasized the dangers of the Forbidden Forest every year.
Fang, the large hunting dog, stuck out his tongue and followed them along.
Fortunately, Hagrid had a plan and didn’t really take them on a full day tour of the Forbidden Forest. Instead, they walked along the edge of the forest. A few minutes later, they arrived at a small enclosure.
"Everyone, gather a bit closer!" Hagrid’s loud voice made the nearby young wizards cover their ears.
Once he saw everyone had moved closer, Hagrid shouted again.
"Yes, that’s it! First, you need to open your books—let me see who has tamed these little darlings."
(PS: For the sake of the plot, the timing of some classes has been adjusted, but it doesn’t affect the story.)
