Chapter 301: The Evil Deity
Chapter 301: The Evil Deity
You Xuan put away his Duel Disk and clapped his hands together. His opponent was slightly stronger than he had initially anticipated. The main surprise was the inclusion of the Evil Emperor, Gaius, in his opponent's deck—not because the card had a significant impact on the duel, but because it was inhabited by a sprite.
Gaius' sprite didn't seem weak by any means. Even without being summoned, the mere fact that it bolstered the duelist's luck was already a considerable nuisance.
Fortunately, it wasn't anything unmanageable, and You Xuan ultimately secured a relatively easy victory.
"How is this possible?"
The Demon World Overlord lay on the ground, his voice faint and his body beginning to glow with a golden light. This was the fate of the defeated in sprite-infused duels in the Sprite World—even their corpses would disintegrate and scatter.
"I actually lost, even with the power of the Evil Emperor boosting me..."
"Stay calm; you're not the first, and you won't be the last," You Xuan replied nonchalantly, having already dispelled his magic and returned to his original appearance.
"You... you're not human! Cough, cough," the Overlord of the Dark Magic World exclaimed, his eyes widening in shock.
"That's right, I'm not," You Xuan admitted frankly.
"You're a... cough... spy!" the Overlord accused, his voice growing weaker.
"That's right, I am," You Xuan acknowledged again, leaning over to pluck the card group from the Overlord's Duel Disk.
This action caused the already dying Overlord to spew more blood.
"You... you... waaah!"
With one final gush of blood, the Overlord collapsed, his eyes wide open and lifeless. His body began to disintegrate, breaking down into particles of golden light that dissipated into the air.
You Xuan took the card group and continued walking out, flipping through the cards until he found the most crucial one—the Evil Emperor, Gaius.
A cloud of black mist drifted out, slowly transforming into a shadowy image of the Evil Deity. Its scarlet eyes, peering through the churning black fog, fixed upon You Xuan with a malevolent gaze that seemed tinged with bewilderment.
"Who exactly are you?"
The Evil Emperor had realized the truth. The reason for being suppressed throughout the duel and constantly led by the opponent's moves wasn't simply due to a few tricky cards.
He could sense that this duelist hadn't even displayed his true prowess yet.
But who was this warrior with such untamed skills? The Evil Emperor pondered. He considered the Overlord of the Magic World weak, but with his blessing, the Overlord shouldn't have been so easily dominated. Yet, this person had not only won but had controlled the entire duel, leaving them both virtually helpless.
The Evil Emperor reflected on this for a moment.
He was a sprite who excelled at adaptability. His partnership with the Magic World Overlord was merely a result of organizational assignments. Now that the Overlord had perished, and seeing how this person before him seemed to have intentions for his card group, the Evil Emperor's thoughts quickly became active.
As a wise sprite, he knew when to seek new opportunities for himself.
However, as the dignified Evil Emperor, he still needed to maintain face. So, he coughed and hid within the black mist, creating an air of mystery as he spoke, "To think you would kill a duelist who possessed me. Youngster, you're quite bold."
Before he could finish his sentence, You Xuan interrupted.
"Shut up for now. I'll deal with you later," You Xuan said as he pressed the card back into the card group and tucked it into his pocket.
Evil Emperor: "..."
By now, they had exited the cave, but the external environment had changed drastically.
The pitch-black sky was mercilessly shrouded by a massive black silk cloth, with layers of dark clouds rolling and tumbling like black waves rising from the abyss. The rumbling thunder resembled the roar of ancient beasts, shaking the earth.
Then, from the depths of the dark clouds, a surging power burst forth, revealing itself to be a black serpentine sword that cleaved through the world. But it wasn't a sword at all—it was a gigantic serpent!
An incredibly terrifying Snake God, its sinuous body seemed to stretch endlessly toward the heavens.
You Xuan frowned, his expression turning solemn. This beast had been defeated by the combined might of the three illusionary gods in the past. Without their presence now, a full resurrection would undoubtedly spell trouble.
"No, it's just an afterimage. The true body has not broken free of its seal," the Chaos Warrior floated out, his voice grave. "But it's likely targeting us, or more specifically, what we just found."
You Xuan understood.
The Millennium Puzzle, a derivative of the Millennium Items, had been what drew the serpent god here. After its defeat by the Pharaoh, the serpent god must have held a deep grudge against this sealing device. Even in its crippled state, the mere scent of it was enough to bring it rushing, wheelchair and all.
The vast array of henchmen gathered in the valley were already terrified out of their wits. The Dark Lord, their leader, prostrated himself on the ground, trembling as he chanted their master's name and praised his divine might. They hoped that their flattery would be enough to earn their master's protection.
However, their efforts were in vain.
The serpent god, in its half-crippled state, seemed to struggle to manifest in this realm. It twisted and turned in the air, and a massive hexagram array unfolded, blocking out the sky. Below, all the followers linked to Orichalcum bore the mark of the hexagram on their foreheads and began to float in the air.
None could resist as their souls were slowly pulled from their mouths, a force yanking them out of their living bodies and turning them into green rays of light that soared into the sky, merging into the vortex above.
Then, the soulless bodies fell like puppets with their strings cut, plummeting from the sky.
The serpent god devoured the souls of all its followers in one go, and its illusory body seemed to gain a slight physical form. It bared its sharp fangs and roared towards the valley.
"Tch, what a mad god," You Xuan muttered, his brow furrowed.
The Chaos Warrior drew his sword, ready to charge, and the Silent Magician appeared as well. Although reluctant, the android, Zorc, followed suit, seeing his teammates raring to go.
However, facing the colossal super serpent that blotted out the sky, Zorc's thoughts were written all over his face—
—Me, fight a serpent god? Are you serious?
Even in a wheelchair, it's not an opponent I can handle, is it?
Just then, You Xuan felt a warmth beneath him. It was the divine artifact he had just picked up—the Millennium Puzzle. The Eye of Horus, emblazoned on it, began to glow.
You Xuan's thoughts stirred.
Had the artifact sensed the serpent god's arrival and activated itself?
Amid the dark clouds and thunder, a golden beam shot forth from the Eye, piercing through the darkness like a solar flare from the depths of the earth! The light soared skyward, dispelling the surrounding darkness and reaching the height of the serpent god before exploding. Initially, it was a rapidly expanding fireball, but within the flames, a form began to take shape.
At the heart of the flames, a silhouette emerged—the outline of a divine bird. It slowly spread its enveloping wings, its body engulfed in flames that resembled a metallic shell forged of pure gold. Its lowered head slowly lifted, and its eyes, burning with holy fire, slowly opened.
The serpent god let out a piercing scream, a mix of anger, fear, and defiance.
For it recognized this opponent from ancient mythology, a being that should no longer exist in the present world—the pinnacle of Duel Monsters, a deity.
The Sun God, the Winged Dragon of Ra!
