Chapter 301: Gorebyss and Cranidos
Chapter 301: Gorebyss and Cranidos
In the spacious and quiet corridor, Cranidos gazed silently at Gorebyss, who stood across from it.
A delighted expression appeared on Gorebyss' face when it saw Cranidos.
"Agashi!"
Seeing Gorebyss like this, Cranidos couldn't help but remember the Gorebyss from its distant memories, the one that was always covered in scars.
In the past, they had traveled together to many places.
In search of that important person, Cranidos had followed this Gorebyss, traversing through tall and dense Ancient Forests, leaping down bottomless cliffs, and navigating through deep and mysterious caves.
Back then, the Gorebyss in Cranidos' memory never smiled, no matter the circumstances. Its face always wore a sad expression.
Gorebyss had once told Cranidos many stories, like how it came from a ranch and lived there with many other Pokemon.
Gorebyss also said that it was afraid—afraid that it would never find Naoki and never return home again.
And now, seeing the joyful expression and wide grin on Gorebyss' face, Cranidos' mouth twitched slightly, and a smile appeared on its face as well.
It was happy for Gorebyss.
"Dream." (You found him.)
Cranidos said.
"Agashi!" Gorebyss nodded its large head excitedly. "Agashi! (Naoki is here too!)
"
Cranidos already knew because it had just seen the human named Naoki by Gorebyss' side.
Speaking of which, Gorebyss suddenly became curious about how Cranidos had ended up here.
Thinking about it, it asked, "Agashi?"
"Dream." (I waited there, but you didn't come back, so I went downstairs and was brought to this place.)
Cranidos replied.
Downstairs? Gorebyss paused for a moment, then suddenly realized that Cranidos must have been sent here by the power of those tiny Turtwig Pokemon, just like it had been!
Recalling the past, Gorebyss invited, "Agashi?" (Would you like to come live with us on the ranch?)
Meanwhile, in the monitoring room...
Dr. Olin watched the harmonious interaction between the two Ancient Pokemon on the surveillance footage with great interest.
"Sure enough, they know each other!" she exclaimed.
Dr. Fortu, standing beside her, couldn't help but feel a twinge of envy at the sight.
Once again, Dr. Olin had made progress in her research on Ancient Pokemon.
Meanwhile, his research on Future Pokemon had hit a roadblock.
Compared to the primitive and ferocious Ancient Pokemon, Future Pokemon were calm in temperament and gave the impression of being highly intelligent. However, their unpredictable behavior and thoughts made them challenging to study.
With these thoughts in mind, Dr. Fortu glanced at Naoki, who was standing nearby.
As a famous Pokemon Professor, he could tell at a glance that Naoki was exceptionally skilled at interacting with Pokemon.
No matter the Pokemon, they would eventually become his friend and obediently follow his instructions.
This led to a question: Could he entrust some Future Pokemon to Naoki and allow them to form bonds, just like Gorebyss had?
He had once tried to get Piplup and Miltank to become friends, but for some unknown reason, Piplup strongly resisted both Gorebyss and Miltank.
Dr. Fortu fell into deep thought.
If Miltank were entrusted to Naoki's care, would it become a second Gorebyss?
The idea intrigued him, and he found himself asking, "Naoki, are you interested in Miltank, this kind of Pokemon?"
Dr. Fortu explained, "I want to entrust Miltank Number One to your care, just like Gorebyss. I want to see if you can establish an equally deep bond with Miltank."
Naoki instantly understood what Dr. Fortu meant.
The professor intended to give him a Miltank!
Naoki's eyes widened in surprise. "Really?"
"Of course." Dr. Fortu nodded with a smile.
Dr. Olin, who had been intently observing Gorebyss and Cranidos, overheard their conversation and smiled, saying to her husband, "You're trying to pull a fast one, aren't you?"
Dr. Fortu sighed, "What can I do? Ancient Pokemon, given enough time, guidance, and taming, can adapt and integrate into this era. But future Pokemon already possess high intelligence, so such methods won't work on them."
On one hand, there were the primitive and savage Ancient Pokemon, not yet awakened intellectually, whose sole concerns were territorial disputes and hunting for food.
On the other hand, there were the mysterious future mechanical lifeform Pokemon, with origins unknown, possessing extraordinary wisdom and thought processes despite their metallic bodies.
Dr. Fortu continued, "So, I'd like to ask you to interact with Miltank and try to build a connection with it, just as you did with Gorebyss."
Naoki gradually calmed down.
To be honest, Gorebyss's situation was quite unique. After all, he had helped heal Gorebyss's injuries, earning a significant amount of favor from it.
But before that, he had never interacted with a Miltank, and he feared the process would be extremely challenging.
Out of caution, Naoki didn't promise to complete the task but instead said, "I can give it a try."
Dr. Fortu nodded in satisfaction and glanced at the monitoring screen, saying, "It looks like they still have a lot to talk about. Why don't we take this opportunity to visit the ecological area where Miltank is located?"
Thus, Dr. Olin stayed behind to continue observing Gorebyss and Cranidos while Naoki followed Dr. Fortu to the Miltank ecological park.
As they passed through automatic doors, they arrived in an ecological park filled with cliffs and basins.
The park was spacious, and Naoki began searching for Miltank as soon as they entered.
Finally, he spotted Miltank's figure in front of a towering cliff.
The Miltank was floating in mid-air, its lifeless eyes coldly gazing into the sky, as if observing something.
Dr. Fortu looked on and spoke softly, "That's Miltank, the legendary iron serpent that turned the earth to ashes with lightning and thunder."
"Its skeleton resembles that of a Motostoke Pokemon," Naoki murmured.
Dr. Fortu said solemnly, "But Miltank's power and cruelty far surpass those of Motostoke Pokemon."
"It's far smarter than I imagined. It has the ability to see through one's character with its keen observation and insight. However, its expressions are too monotonous and mechanical, and even I can't decipher its emotions or expression changes."
Hearing Dr. Fortu's words and witnessing Miltank first-hand, Naoki couldn't help but compare it to Gorebyss in his mind.
"Indeed, Gorebyss's emotions are clearer and easier to understand, and its form is more biological..."
