Chapter 300: Scabbers, You're Truly My Savior!
Chapter 300: Scabbers, You're Truly My Savior!
When they returned to the empty classroom, the two of them stared at each other, the atmosphere becoming awkward.
Ivan also lost his desire to scold Hermione, as Madam Pomfrey had said that his condition was much more serious than Hermione's.
"It looks like we need to make a detailed schedule!" Ivan sighed helplessly. The chaotic schedule they had been following would eventually cause problems.
Then, Ivan began to rework their new schedule, with the most crucial part being the restrictions on the use of the Time Turner.
They could go back in time by a maximum of thirty hours a day, avoid returning to the same point in time multiple times, and drink a restorative potion every three days.
After strictly setting their schedule, both of them felt much more relaxed over the next few days. However, the progress of potion research slowed significantly.
Even though Ivan invested all the academic points he earned from classes into the research, there was still one core issue that couldn't be resolved.
Why had the effects of the Polyjuice Potion suddenly disappeared when he used it on those black-robed wizards?
Thinking about this, Ivan frowned deeply.
After hesitating for a moment, he picked up the Polyjuice Potion he had prepared, added a strand of hair he had collected from the school over the past few days, and drank it. His body quickly began to transform.
Ivan looked at the mirror next to him and saw that he had turned into a frail young wizard.
"Sectumsempra!"
Once the potion's effects stabilized, Ivan pointed his Wand at his arm and muttered the spell, releasing the curse.
The invisible magical blade cut through his skin, and blood flowed down the wound, staining the table red.
Hearing the commotion, Hermione turned around and saw a strange young wizard with long cuts on his arm. She was immediately frightened.
Hermione instantly guessed that the person in front of her was Ivan, who had drunk the Polyjuice Potion, as only she and Ivan were in the room.
Seeing the large amount of blood flowing from Ivan's wrist, the young witch panicked.
Fortunately, she remembered reading in *Advanced Potion Making* that white asphodel could heal wounds. She frantically searched through her things, grabbed a white asphodel, and ran over, pulling Ivan's injured arm and applying the juice to the wound.
However, the wound continued to bleed, and the white asphodel juice had no effect.
"This can't be! Why isn't it working?" Hermione said, her voice tinged with tears.
Ivan hadn't expected such a strong reaction from Hermione and quickly explained.
"Don't worry, Hermione, I'm just conducting an experiment. This is just part of it."
As he spoke, Ivan placed his Wand on the wound and softly chanted a counter-curse, which sounded like a song. The wound on his arm immediately healed.
He had been testing the stability of the Polyjuice Potion, especially to see if the potion would suddenly revert when the drinker was severely injured or treated.
An experiment?
Hermione stared blankly at Ivan's arm as it slowly healed, even the blood on the table returning to the wound. She remained silent for a long time.
Ivan was a bit worried and was about to ask if she was okay when he saw Hermione clench her teeth, ball her fists, and swing at him, hitting him in the stomach.
Under the effects of the Polyjuice Potion, Ivan staggered, almost colliding with the cauldron behind him. He straightened up, holding his stomach, and saw that Hermione's eyes were red.
"Who would cut their own arm to conduct an experiment? Can't you use something else for your experiments?" Hermione was furious. "And you didn’t even tell me in advance!"
Seeing Hermione, who was visibly trembling with anger, Ivan opened his mouth, intending to explain, but found himself at a loss for words. He helplessly scratched his head.
When he was researching potions, he hadn’t thought so much about it. He had simply acted on a whim, carefully controlling the power of the Sectumsempra spell, so there was no real danger.
After all, the Polyjuice Potion only worked on humans. He couldn’t possibly grab a few young wizards from Hogwarts to use as test subjects, could he?
Ivan was not cruel enough to do that, and if anyone were injured, Dumbledore would surely tear him apart.
If only he could find someone full of sins, with a strong life force, someone whose death in an experiment wouldn’t matter to anyone.
Ivan sighed inwardly. If he could find such a person, his potion improvement efficiency would increase significantly, and he wouldn’t have to keep experimenting on himself.
Wait, there actually is such a person!
Ivan suddenly had an idea, and a look of surprise and joy appeared on his face.
Scabbers, you are truly my savior!
"Ivan, have you found a way to improve the potion?" Hermione, seeing Ivan’s suddenly joyful expression, temporarily suppressed her anger and asked with concern.
"No, I just realized that some experiments can be done using a rat", Ivan explained. He would use the Forgetfulness Charm along with the Stunning Spell to ensure Peter wouldn’t feel a thing afterward.
"So you only thought of using a rat as a test subject now?" Hermione glared at him, looking like an angry lioness.
Ivan smiled bitterly. The test subject he had in mind wasn’t just any rat.
Only someone like Peter Pettigrew, an Animagus, could meet his experimental needs!
He would have to figure out a way to get that man from Ron, the rat enthusiast.
However, he couldn’t tell Hermione about this. Ivan had to apologize profusely and promise never to conduct such dangerous experiments on himself again before Hermione would let the matter drop.
If he had known a test subject was available, Ivan would have been foolish to use his own body for the experiment.
However, Hermione still looked displeased, and she ignored him for the entire morning, engrossed in her potions book.
Ivan shook his head and didn’t mind, continuing his potion research.
After about an hour, Ivan clearly felt the effects of the Polyjuice Potion starting to wear off.
It seemed the injuries he had sustained hadn’t significantly affected the potion, and it wasn’t enough to disrupt its effects.
"Why isn’t there any research on what happens to potions when used on dead bodies?"
At lunchtime, back in the Great Hall, Ivan sighed, feeling that the delicious-smelling steak in front of him wasn’t as appetizing anymore.
Over the past few days, he had read through every potions book he could find, but found no such research recorded.
