Chapter 30: Attempting Training Tasks
Chapter 30: Attempting Training Tasks
Mu Yue first asked Deidara to try climbing a tree.
There weren't many things in the eastern forest of Konoha, but there were plenty of trees. Trees reaching dozens of meters high were a common sight, and even taller ones weren't uncommon.
Mu Yue casually pointed to a 20-meter-tall tree and asked Deidara to try climbing it by gathering chakra in his feet.
Deidara nodded, took a deep breath, and channeled his chakra into his feet as he rushed upward.
Deidara climbed to a height of about ten meters, but then lost control of his chakra on the next step, leaving a footprint in the tree as he fell.
Mu Yue jumped to catch Deidara and nodded inwardly. Although Deidara's skill didn't reach Asuma's level, it was still passable. At the very least, he wouldn't fall after just a few steps.
There wasn't much to say about this type of training; it was simply a matter of persistent practice and didn't involve any special techniques.
After demonstrating a few times for Deidara, Mu Yue left a shadow clone to supervise him and let the original body go in search of Might Guy, who was tempering his physique.
Among Mu Yue's three disciples, Might Guy's training regimen could be said to be the most boring.
While Deidara could switch things up by practicing ninjutsu when he got tired of taijutsu, Might Guy's training consisted solely of practicing the Konoha Whirlwind and tempering his physique.
Tempering one's physique was not something that could be achieved overnight, and it was an aspect where Mu Yue's teaching skills were of little help.
His teaching skill could help Might Guy learn taijutsu faster and improve more efficiently, but it couldn't accelerate the effects of his physical training.
Doing a push-up would still only yield the training effect of a single push-up.
When Mu Yue approached, Might Guy was doing push-ups with a stone slab on his back that was about the same size as him.
"Guy, how's your Konoha Whirlwind coming along?" Mu Yue asked.
He wanted to probe the trigger conditions for the training task, and Might Guy, who also had a trust level of three, was the best choice.
Hearing Mu Yue's question, Might Guy paused and maintained his position as he replied, "It's a bit faster than during the exam, but it's still not fast enough."
After answering, Might Guy removed the stone slab, stood up, and delivered a swift and powerful Konoha Whirlwind kick to a training post not far away.
Mu Yue nodded. Compared to before, there was indeed some improvement; his legwork was more fierce and decisive.
He must have gained some insights during his battle with Hiashi Hyuga.
However, physical training wouldn't yield results so quickly. Progress in one's physique was measured in months at the very least.
"What do you think is the key to improving your strength?" Mu Yue asked a question that left Might Guy puzzled.
"Of course, it's through cultivation," Might Guy immediately answered, expressing his thoughts.
He found Mu Yue's question a bit odd. To become stronger, one would obviously need to cultivate persistently.
Mu Yue shook his head and asked again, "Cultivation can lead to progress, and it's indeed a crucial aspect of increasing strength. But are there any other methods?"
Might Guy scratched his head, then thought of his improved Konoha Whirlwind, as well as the practical exams they had at the Ninja Academy. Suddenly, he exclaimed, "Battle!"
"That's right," Mu Yue smiled. "Battle is also an important aspect of enhancing your strength. Through battle, you can better transform your training achievements into your own power."
"The battles I'm referring to aren't like the ones between you and Deidara. Those aren't normal battles."
"If you want to improve, you need to challenge strong opponents and engage in fair and square battles with those you wish to overcome."
As Might Guy listened to Mu Yue's words, a particular person gradually emerged in his mind.
However, Might Guy now changed his mind. Would he be able to defeat Kakashi once he mastered the Konoha Whirlwind? Not necessarily.
Could he be afraid of failure? No.
Then why not fight Kakashi and improve his strength even further?
"Teacher Mu Yue, I understand," Might Guy said solemnly.
Seeing the look on Might Guy's face, Mu Yue guessed that her guidance had taken root. With Might Guy's drive, he might even go and find Kakashi that very night.
However, Mu Yue was disappointed that no training task appeared regarding defeating Kakashi.
"What other conditions are there?" Mu Yue wondered.
Following the original Naruto storyline, at this point, Might Guy should have a strong "desire" to defeat Kakashi.
With the title of a super genius and as Kakashi's rival, Might Guy had more than enough reasons to want to beat him.
Recalling the details of how Obito triggered the training task, Mu Yue noticed an issue.
Obito's attitude had been pleading, and his words conveyed that he needed Mu Yue's help; he needed her to teach him an impressive Fire Release jutsu to complete the task.
"Does achieving the result require a necessary dependence on the teacher?" Mu Yue speculated.
If that were the case, it would make sense that Might Guy didn't trigger a training task earlier.
At most, Might Guy's enthusiasm to challenge Kakashi had been ignited, but he probably didn't think that he absolutely needed Mu Yue's help.
With a hypothesis in mind, Mu Yue didn't probe further. He decided to wait until Might Guy's challenge to Kakashi failed before taking action.
Then, he would show his defeated disciple the warmth of a teacher's support.
After finishing her teaching duties, Mu Yue returned to her home in the main city.
After dinner, Mu Yue went to the park where she had previously met Minato and Kushina.
Fortunately, she ran into them again. Perhaps people living nearby liked to spend time there, as they didn't seem surprised to see her again.
"By the way, you left in such a hurry last time that I forgot to ask you something," Kushina suddenly remembered and asked.
"Did you agree to the Third Hokage's request to be a home tutor?"
Mu Yue nodded.
"I heard that the child is a bit rebellious and doesn't listen to the Third Hokage's words. Will he listen to you?" Kushina asked curiously.
Mu Yue smiled and told them about how she trained Asuma.
Kushina didn't know how Asuma felt about being taught, but she found the story amusing.
Especially on the second day, when Asuma tried to rebel by slacking off, only to be tricked into training until he was exhausted, which made Kushina exclaim that the clever Third Hokage actually had such a foolish son.
Minato was also surprised by Mu Yue's teaching approach and how she could get an unmotivated student to cooperate in training.
Mu Yue didn't just talk about herself; she also asked Minato and Kushina some questions, creating a harmonious conversation.
Mu Yue felt that after spending some time together and becoming friends, she could casually express her interest in sealing techniques and cursed seals.
Transition chapters are really hard to write. I deleted and modified a thousand words from this chapter, which is why it's being posted so late.
