Chapter 3: Summoned Beast: Taiyi!
Chapter 3: Summoned Beast: Taiyi!
"Test begins!"
Ape Fly Nagahama announced from outside the barrier. Though he didn't understand why the upper echelons insisted on treating To Hei so specially, he had no choice but to comply.
Whoosh!
Kakashi crouched and lunged forward. He understood the implications of the order all too well. To avoid disgracing the Hatake clan again, he decided to follow it, no matter how unreasonable it seemed. He couldn't afford to repeat the mistakes of 'that person.'
Seeing Kakashi charge at him, To Hei cursed inwardly.
Damn!
Facing someone who wouldn't listen to his arguments, he felt like crying. Wasn't it supposed to be a world where talking could solve everything? Why didn't it work for him? It seemed that talking only worked when paired with the protagonist's aura. As a mere extra, he shouldn't have expected much.
But To Hei didn't have time to dwell on it. Even against someone as formidable as Kakashi, the '50-50' ninja, he wasn't prepared to die.
He quickly retreated while forming seals.
Though he couldn't match the speed of a certain Uchiha prodigy, who could form eight seals in a second with one hand, he could still manage a few seals in a second.
"Boar-Pig-Rooster..."
He quickly formed the seals.
"Summoning Jutsu!"
With a shout, To Hei slammed his right hand onto the ground. Whether he could survive against the yet-to-become '50-50' Kakashi depended entirely on this jutsu.
The summoning jutsu drained most of his chakra, but fortunately, the jutsu's consumption was minimal, with the summoned beast bearing the brunt of it. Otherwise, with his chakra level, he wouldn't have been able to use it. Even a fully trained genin would be drained by a C-rank jutsu (on average).
Thus, genins on the battlefield typically relied on shuriken and kunai, rarely using chakra-based jutsu, as the consumption alone could drain them.
Puff!
A cloud of white smoke exploded.
Kakashi, who was charging forward, instinctively stopped and stepped back, muttering to himself.
Not a dead-last... huh?
After receiving the order, he had gathered intelligence and found that Uchiha To Hei was a complete dead-last. He hadn't expected such a deep cover.
The smoke quickly dissipated, revealing a large crow standing between the two of them, nearly as tall as a person. Its feathers were a mix of gold and black, with five golden feathers on its head forming a crown-like structure. It also had an extra claw, making it look rather strange.
But no one would mistake it for an ordinary crow.
"A Ninja Raven?"
Uchiha Fugaku, perched on a tree at the edge of the training ground, murmured. As the young head of the Uchiha clan, he was only there to go through the motions, but he hadn't expected to witness this.
He knew one thing for sure: this summon wasn't from the Uchiha clan's training. The clan focused on training the Nineko, and the Ninraven were only trained in small numbers, making such a powerful one impossible.
After summoning his ultimate trump card, To Hei did something no one expected. He suddenly shouted toward the edge of the training ground, where Ape Fly Nagahama stood outside the barrier.
"I surrender!"
Yes, he was surrendering outright. Summoning the beast was to buy time for his surrender, not to fight to the death.
Unfortunately, his homeroom teacher only looked at him with confusion and made no move to intervene.
Kakashi, though slippery, wouldn't ignore a student in danger. Therefore, there was only one explanation.
The barrier!
It not only prevented the battle's aftermath from spreading but also blocked sound, giving him no chance to surrender verbally.
Damn!
To Hei was furious—Danzo was clearly trying to get him killed!
But no matter how angry he was, he had to deal with the immediate threat. Kakashi charged at him again, his eyes filled with deadly intent.
Hmph!
If Danzo wanted him dead, he'd make sure Kakashi went first.
To Hei's long-held fear and unease finally burst forth. He wanted to take it easy because he knew how dangerous this ninja world was, not because he wanted to die. Now that someone had crossed his line, he couldn't be blamed for reacting.
All his reservations and fears paled in the face of an immediate threat to his life.
"Taiyi, kill him!"
To Hei ordered, putting more distance between himself and Kakashi.
In terms of combat strength, he was genuinely weak, so his dead-last performance wasn't an act. Otherwise, would the strong really be unable to see through a mere academy student?
Caw!
On his command, Taiyi's eyes turned golden-red, locking onto the rapidly approaching Kakashi.
Whoosh, whoosh!
Several shurikens were hurled at Dohei first.
Whoo!
But Taichi's massive wings flapped, creating a powerful gust that blew the shurikens away.
Size = Strength!
This formula was a truth in the ninja world. While the size of a summon didn't determine everything, a larger size definitely offered significant advantages.
Kakashi vanished in the wind as he charged forward.
Taichi suddenly raised his right claw, enveloped it in intense flames, and slammed it down.
Bang!
The ground shattered in a radius of several meters around the landing claw, and a fountain of flames erupted.
Seeing Taichi's formidable display, the rest of the class was utterly shocked.
"Amazing!"
"Am I under a genjutsu?"
"Is Dohei really that strong? If this were my summon…"
Besides shock, they also felt envy and jealousy, wishing such a powerful summon belonged to them.
A powerful summon could truly elevate a ninja to the pinnacle of their career. The "Three Ninja" of Konoha were the best example of this.
If the others were this shocked, it was even more so for his two best friends.
Honda Taka and Yamashita Koji exchanged glances, wondering if they had been hallucinating all this time, because their friend Dohei was usually just a slacker who skipped school and did nothing.
As everyone was still in shock,
Whoosh!
A figure burst from the shattered ground, charging at Taichi.
It was Kakashi.
Clang!
His short blade was blocked by Taichi's sharp beak.
Beak stab, claw strike, wing sweep!
Taichi forcibly defended against Kakashi's swift and ruthless attacks.
And it didn't stop there.
Whenever Kakashi tried to maneuver around, the near-human-sized Taichi would counter-attack, forcing him to defend himself.
Despite being a crow, with the aid of its wings, Taichi's short-range pounces were no slower than Kakashi's.
After a few rounds, Kakashi was thoroughly outmatched.
Realizing that taijutsu wouldn't work, Kakashi jumped back, created some hand seals, and took a deep breath.
"Fire Style: Flame Bullet!"
A wheel-sized fireball spewed out.
Note that the Grand Fireball Technique is a Uchiha secret, more powerful and less draining than Flame Bullet. There are many such fire techniques, which is why they can claim to be the "strongest fire clan."
Caw!
Facing the incoming Flame Bullet, Taichi spread its wings, inhaled deeply, and the surrounding air pressure spiked.
Seeing this,
The onlookers, who were watching the battle, panicked.
"What is that?!"
"Stop it!"
"It's too late!"
...
The sheer force of the upcoming attack was evident. While it posed no threat to them, it would be fatal for a mere academy student, not even a genin.
But with the sealing barrier in place, any attempt to intervene was too late.
Boom!
A fierce wave of fire erupted from Taichi, instantly engulfing the area several meters ahead.
Crash!
"Kakashi!!"
Hiruzen Sarutobi broke through the barrier, rushed into the training ground, and breathed a sigh of relief when he found Kakashi only heat-dazed.
On the other side,
Taichi, having used all its chakra, was forced to end the summoning and dissipate.
Whoosh!
Dohei was then surrounded.
"Uchiha Dohei, we suspect you are a spy from another village. Go to the Anbu for investigation!"
The lead Anbu ninja barked.
Dohei didn't argue, for he had no right to. As an academy student, not even a genin, he had no status. In terms of strength, he could barely match a genin, and Taichi's full effort could only threaten a chunin, and that was only if the enemy didn't know Taichi's capabilities.
Thus, whether by status or strength, he had no grounds to argue.
As for reason?
Sorry, but ninjas aren't known for being reasonable.
However, he didn't regret his actions.
Kakashi had attacked with the intent to kill.
To have the will to kill, you must have the right to kill!
Kakashi must have understood this as well.
Surviving Taichi's attack was a matter of skill, not leniency.
If you're trying to kill me, showing mercy would be foolish.
But Dohei didn't hate Kakashi.
The one truly trying to end his life was Danzo, the old man.
He had thought he had evaded him, but apparently, not for long.
As Dohei pondered whether to take a desperate risk,
