Chapter 3: Obito's Resentment
Chapter 3: Obito's Resentment
Feng Ye's movements were carefully observed by Obito. When he saw Feng Ye close his eyes, no longer looking at him, and his eyelids twitched a few times as if deliberately provoking him, he couldn't help but clench his fists.
"Damn it... What's there to be arrogant about..."
"A guy who was left behind by his own little brother..."
Obito gritted his teeth in frustration.
Kakashi was also a detestable brat. Although he had graduated early after less than half a year, the fact remained that these two brothers were insufferable in their own ways.
"I heard Kakashi recently completed an A-rank mission with an elite jonin."
"As much as I hate to admit it, that guy is pretty impressive. He became a chunin last year, and who knows, he might even become a jounin soon enough..."
Someone who had overheard Uchiha Obito's mutterings decided to chime in, following his train of thought.
Feng Ye's performance in class was consistently within the top ten, occasionally even ranking first. It would be difficult to ridicule him based on academic achievements, but drawing a comparison with Kakashi provided an opportunity to belittle Feng Ye.
After all, when measured against Kakashi, who had graduated at the age of five and become a chunin at six, Feng Ye's accomplishments paled in significance, and it seemed almost inappropriate to place them in the same league.
The person next to him immediately caught on to his intention and glanced at Feng Ye, casually remarking, "As much as I hate to admit it, that guy is a genius. Some people don't really seem qualified to be an older brother when compared to him."
Whoosh!
Before Feng Ye could react, a girl named Yamanaka Ino, sitting in front of him, stood up angrily and glared at the speaker, Inuzuka Kiba. "Hey! What did you just say?!"
Inuzuka Kiba refused to back down when confronted by an angry girl, instead, he stiffened his neck and retorted, "What's wrong? Did I say something wrong?"
Yamanaka Ino was seething with anger, but she couldn't find the words to refute him.
Feng Ye opened his eyes and looked at Yamanaka Ino, offering a nonchalant smile. "Kakashi is indeed a genius. It's hard for ordinary people to measure up to him..."
Yamanaka Ino nodded in agreement. "Yeah, Feng Ye, don't pay any attention to him. Your brother is an exceptional ninja, and it's rare to find someone like him even after many years. You don't need to compare yourself with Kakashi."
Yuhi Kurenai also nodded in agreement.
As long as Feng Ye wasn't contrasted with a 'monster' like Kakashi, he was undoubtedly a brilliant genius in this class, with no apparent flaws.
Feng Ye was interrupted before he could finish his sentence, and he merely shrugged innocently, not bothering to argue further. He simply smiled at Yuhi Kurenai.
Inuzuka Kiba saw that Feng Ye didn't seem interested in debating with him, and the girls seemed to be in agreement. Although he felt a bit resentful, he could only grumble a couple of inaudible words and avert his gaze.
Yuhi Kurenai looked at Feng Ye, her beautiful large eyes flickering slightly, as she whispered, "Having a brother like Kakashi must put a lot of pressure on you."
"Not at all," Feng Ye glanced at her and smiled. "Why would I feel pressured? The stronger my little brother is, the better, right? It's not like we're from the Hyuga clan..."
Yuhi Kurenai blinked, "What about the Hyuga clan?"
"Oh, you don't know?" Feng Ye briefly explained the situation regarding the Hyuga clan's main house and branch house, leaving Yuhi Kurenai quite astonished.
Yuhi Kurenai glanced at a person sitting in the corner of the classroom and thought to herself, "I never knew the prestigious Hyuga clan was like that."
The person sitting in the corner was Hyuga Hiashi, the nephew of the clan leader, Hyuga Hizashi, and a member of the branch family.
As a member of the esteemed Hyuga clan, he carried the pride of a noble lineage and looked down upon Feng Ye, who was often surrounded by adoring girls. He consistently ranked first or second in class and considered only Kakashi a worthy rival.
Hearing Feng Ye mention the Hyuga clan, Hinata Hyuga (Hinata Hyuga) turned to glance at him, furrowing his brows slightly, but he couldn't quite make out what Feng Ye was saying.
Although he couldn't catch the exact words, he could guess that Feng Ye was talking about something related to the Hyuga clan, and Hinata's eyes flickered with a hint of unease.
"He's a bit too full of himself, isn't he..."
Hinata found Feng Ye's popularity with the girls a little irritating, but it wasn't something he was overly concerned about. However, the mention of the Hyuga clan was an entirely different matter.
Should I go give him a 'warning' after class?
Hinata's eyes darted with contemplation.
After all, Feng Ye wasn't Kakashi; in his eyes, the only person among their peers who could rival him was Kakashi.
As Hinata pondered, the last student finished their clone technique training, and the jonin teacher recorded the final scores. Glancing at the score sheet, the teacher announced:
"Today's test is over."
"Those who failed are Uchiha Obito, Aburame Shino, and... the few of you, stay back and practice more."
"There will be another mock test tomorrow, so be prepared. In four days, we'll have the official graduation assessment. Anyone who fails will stay back during the holidays for extra lessons until they pass the assessment!"
With the jonin teacher's declaration, a sigh of relief swept through the classroom as students expressed their joy at having passed.
However, for those who failed, like Uchiha Obito, their faces darkened at the prospect of holiday lessons. The embarrassment of failing was something they wanted to avoid at all costs.
"Alright, that's it for today. You may all head home."
The jonin teacher gathered the score sheets into a folder, organized his things, and addressed the class.
Hearing the teacher's dismissal, the students stood up, bowed respectfully, and, after the teacher nodded and left the classroom, they dispersed.
Feng Ye, using the excuse of having other matters to attend to, managed to extricate himself from Kurenai Yuhi, Ino Yamanaka, and the other girls who wanted to walk home with him. Soon, he found himself back at home.
It was amusing to watch these precocious eight and nine-year-old girls vying for his attention, but Feng Ye had more pressing matters to attend to—namely, adapting to the three-times speed state.
The three-times speed state, an increase from the previous two-times speed, further enhanced his physical capabilities.
After a quick dinner, Feng Ye made his way to the backyard, activated his three-times speed state, and began punching the specially-made wooden stakes that were set up for training.
To accelerate his body's growth, Feng Ye trained in the accelerated state and even slept in it. The accelerated state caused his body's cell division and metabolism to speed up, effectively giving him two days' worth of growth in one. As a result, although he was eight years old, his physical age was that of a nine-year-old due to the accelerated growth during the past two years.
If he maintained the accelerated state continuously, his body would age even faster. However, spending extended periods in that state was incredibly boring. Lectures felt like they were being played at half speed, with every word from the teacher elongated, triggering a sense of compulsion.
Additionally, to appear normal, he had to slow down his speech and movements while in the accelerated state, which was cumbersome. So, during school hours, Feng Ye opted to remain in the normal state.
