Chapter 3: Law Knight
Chapter 3: Law Knight
A Law Knight?
A Law Knight!
Who in Anville Village would dress like this? The man standing on the deer's head could only be the Law Knight that Lin Sai knew.
Lin Sai valued her life more than becoming an Awakened.
She wanted to leave immediately.
However, at this moment, an old man with a limp standing before the Law Knight caught her attention.
"Village Elder..."
He was the Village Elder of Anville, and also one of the two Awakened individuals in this frontier land.
In the glow of the bonfire, the Village Elder glared at the Law Knight with anger: "Bagert, what do you think you're doing! Today is the eve of the Harvest Festival, and you want to ruin even this celebration?"
The Law Knight, Bagert, responded with an indifferent gaze:
"The Law Capital mandates that during the autumn harvest, the Fire Ritual should be avoided near crops and villages. You can happily celebrate the festival, but this act of setting the deer ablaze should be abolished!"
"I'll take care of this!" The Village Elder's limp foot stomped on the ground, and the entire Anville Village trembled as if an earthquake had struck. "Bagert, do you think I can't handle this little flame?"
The Law Knight's attitude remained indifferent, and his tone carried a coldness that brooked no further argument:
"The Law is absolute and must be executed."
"This law ensures your safety and that of the crops. It cannot be refused."
On this issue, neither of them was willing to back down.
The tension was about to escalate.
At this critical juncture, the last Awakened of Anville Village, White Pine Master, who oversaw the crops, hurried over from the outskirts.
"Both of you, there's no need to argue over this matter."
White Pine Master stepped in and stamped out the lit fuse.
Then, instead of addressing the cold Law Knight, he approached the furious Village Elder and whispered:
"Old friend, look at this fellow Bagert, he's clearly become a living embodiment of the law. Why get angry at a machine? If we endure this evening, can this fellow fly over from the Law Capital again and ruin our deer once more?"
With White Pine Master's advice, the Village Elder's anger temporarily subsided.
"I'm going home!"
He hummed, turned his back, and without a glance, he walked away. "Law Knight, do as you please!"
The Village Elder had previously called him Bagert.
Now, he addressed him as Law Knight.
"This is not my preference, but the law. The Law Knight remains calm in his response, and his gaze shifted to the surrounding villagers, "You should obey the law, it is the foundation of civilization's functioning."
Facing this legendary figure, the villagers dared not react.
It was White Pine Master, who remained at the scene, who reacted first:
"Everyone, there's no need to argue over this."
With the highly respected White Pine Master taking the lead, the villagers around responded.
"Yes, we will behave!"
"The Village Elder speaks for us!"
"Exactly!"
Law Knight Bagert nodded slightly.
The villagers obeyed the Village Elder, and his words represented the thoughts of these people.
Confirming that the law could be enforced in Anville Village, Bagert lifted his foot, pointing his sword at the deer he had felled.
"Return to the earth, nourish the fertile soil."
The lifeless straw, at this moment, seemed to come alive, and it automatically disintegrated, then merged into the earth, disappearing without a trace.
Standing amidst the crowd, Lin Sai witnessed this scene, feeling a mix of emotions.
The Village Elder's crippled leg stomped, causing the ground to tremble, and the Law Knight's words commanded the straw deer to melt into the earth—an ability beyond the imagination of ordinary people.
More importantly, Lin Sai was now also one of the Awakened.
According to the girl from the mill, as long as those with exceptional talents honed their skills, they could potentially attain the same formidable power as these individuals!
"In any case, take it slow."
"I'm already an Awakened, no need to rush."
Lin Sai took a few deep breaths to calm his thoughts, and his gaze once again fell on the center of the village.
"I sense the Law's decree has been triggered, and I need to check it out immediately."
After dealing with the straw deer, the Law Knight, without turning back, headed towards the mill on the northern side of the village.
"Everyone, continue with the festival!"
White Pine Master signaled to the villagers and hurriedly followed.
"..."
The villagers who remained at the site looked at each other.
Although the Law Knight had dealt with the deer, the other festival preparations they had made were still intact, so they resumed the festive celebrations.
The only change was that the atmosphere became noticeably more subdued than before.
As the crowd dispersed, Lin Sai walked home in a daze, his mind reeling from the revelation of the Awakened's power. He began to confront the issues he faced.
"I interacted with a prisoner and even chatted with them."
"But essentially, I just delivered a meal, so I shouldn't have broken any laws, right? And since they're referred to as a guest, this secret escort must also avoid any unexpected complications..."
Lin Sai analyzed his situation.
The words of the mill girl and the confrontation he witnessed earlier made it clear to him what kind of person the Law Knight was.
He now had no desire to interact with them or become the 'hero' from the legendary myths.
"This is clearly distorted by power!"
"Besides, the village elder's kick was definitely not a simple ability. We're all from the same village, and I can definitely learn from him."
Lin Sai muttered to himself.
The plan he had made a few hours ago had been shattered and reshaped by this reality that didn't align with his intentions.
"Hey, Lin Sai, you're back!"
At that moment, the other children noticed Lin Sai, and one of his close friends rushed over to hug him.
"Well, did you deliver the meal to the guest?"
"What do they look like? Are they male or female?"
"There's a beautiful girl locked up in the mill!"
And she bears the King's Emblem of the Law Capital!
Of course, Lin Sai couldn't say this, so he pretended to be a child and played along:
"How would I know?"
"That guy was hiding in the mill, I just delivered the meal and came back!"
"..."
Lin Sai didn't want to cause trouble for himself or his family and friends.
So during the festival celebrations, he acted like an ordinary child, refraining from any unusual actions.
He attended the banquet, chased and played with the others, and did silly things that children often do in front of adults.
Every child in Anville Village behaved this way.
Except for the mill girl and Lin Sai himself.
No one had expected that a rare Autonomous Awakened would be present in this remote village.
As for the Law Knight who went to the mill,
It was said that his expression never changed, and in the end, he even ignored the conflict with the village elder in the evening and returned to the elder's house to rest!
