Chapter 3: Fishing Plans
Chapter 3: Fishing Plans
"Big brother, what is this?"
Little Yan had been quietly watching Lu Qing's busy preparations and couldn't help but ask out of curiosity when he finished making the fishing rod.
"This is called a fishing rod, and we use it for fishing. Whether we have anything to eat today depends on this."
Lu Qing waved the bamboo rod and tested its feel with a satisfied expression.
In his past life, he had been an avid fisherman who enjoyed crafting his rods in his spare time.
Unexpectedly, this hobby would come in handy here.
The little girl's eyes lit up. "Big brother, do you know how to catch fish?"
"I'm not sure if I can catch any, but let's give it a try. If we do catch some, we'll have fish soup to drink."
At the mention of "fish soup," Little Yan's imagination ran wild, and she couldn't help but drool.
"Big brother, let's go fishing quickly!"
The little girl couldn't contain her excitement.
The last time she had eaten fish was a long, long time ago during the New Year celebrations when her father had bought a big fish from the market.
In her memory, the fish had been delicious.
"Don't rush. We still need to prepare some bait."
Finding bait wasn't difficult. In a cool and fertile corner of the yard, Lu Qing dug up the bait he needed with just a couple of shovel scoops.
{Red Worm: A helpful assistant for loosening soil, and it seems to have medicinal value as well.}
Ignoring the information that appeared on the worm, Lu Qing put it into a bamboo tube.
He wasn't digging for medicine; he had no knowledge of medicine.
After sealing the tube, leaving only a small air hole, he slung the fishing rod over his shoulder and carried an old wooden bucket, and the siblings set off proudly.
They hadn't gone far from the small yard when a woman called out to them.
"Lu Qing, are you feeling better now? Can you walk?"
The woman was holding a basket of clothes, apparently just back from laundry.
Her tone was filled with surprise.
Just yesterday, the villagers had been discussing when they should prepare his body for burial, as the Lu family child was said to be gravely ill, with even Old Doctor Chen commenting that it was up to fate now.
But now, just a day later, he was lively and well enough to go out?
"Yes, Aunt Wang. Somehow, after sleeping for two days, my condition gradually improved, and I was able to get up this morning."
Lu Qing replied in the tone of the previous owner.
Fortunately, the previous owner had been a man of few words and a somewhat gloomy disposition, making him easy to imitate.
"Brother drank the medicine Grandpa Chen gave him, and he got better all of a sudden!" Little Yan interjected.
Aunt Wang wasn't paying attention to any changes in Lu Qing's personality. Seeing that he seemed to be truly recovered, she also smiled.
"It's good that you're better. It's really good."
She heaved a sigh of relief.
Over the past two days, several elders from the village had gone to see Lu Qing, and they all said he might not make it.
The villagers had been discussing what would happen to Little Yan if Lu Qing passed away.
The elders suggested that a certain family in the village should adopt Little Yan, and the others would chip in some money for her living expenses.
Unfortunately, her husband had returned and expressed his desire to adopt Little Yan, saying that Lu's grandfather had once helped him during their escape from famine. He couldn't bear to see the last of Lu's bloodline left unattended.
Aunt Wang was naturally unhappy about the prospect of suddenly having an extra mouth to feed, but she didn't dare refute her husband directly, so she could only pray for Lu Qing's recovery.
Now that she saw Lu Qing was indeed better, she was genuinely happy.
With this in mind, Aunt Wang earnestly advised Lu Qing, "Lu Qing, you must take good care of yourself from now on. Little Yan only has you as her family now. If something happens to you, what will become of her all alone?"
Lu Qing was a little surprised.
In the previous owner's memory, Aunt Wang didn't seem to be such a kind-hearted person.
Nevertheless, he politely agreed, "I understand, thank you for your concern, Aunt Wang. I will take care of Little Yan."
"Good, that's a good boy," Aunt Wang said, finally satisfied.
As long as Lu Qing was around, her husband wouldn't bring up the idea of adopting Little Yan, and she wouldn't have to worry about it anymore.
Feeling better, Aunt Wang then noticed the items in the siblings' hands.
