Chapter 3: 1st Tier Unit - Goblins
Chapter 3: 1st Tier Unit - Goblins
"Ugh, calm down, calm down. My stats and talents are already hellish enough at the start. The units might be a bit lacking, but they’re still better than me. It’s not worth getting myself worked up over this."
Qin Muye forced himself to stay calm, trying to avoid tearing down the Goblin Workshop in a fit of frustration. After the Goblin Workshop was built, he immediately checked it out, though he hadn’t recruited any goblins yet. Through the workshop, he saw the attributes and descriptions of these goblins.
Unit Name: Goblin
Unit Tier: 1st Tier
Health: 5/5
Mana: 10/10
Attack: 0
Defense: 1
Skills:
Lucky Garden: +1 Luck
Arcane Constitution: +1 Defense
Arcane Wisdom: +10 Mana
Loyal Taming: Morale never drops
Description: Goblins are the result of magical experiments on captured garden sprites. However, they are smarter and more obedient than garden sprites, making them the most loyal servants of the wizard’s tower.
From a skills perspective, it was quite extravagant. However, the initial attack and defense were both 0. If it weren’t for the Arcane Constitution skill boosting their defense to 1, they would have been completely defenseless.
As for mana, it was even more useless. Goblins had no magical abilities, so the mana was essentially just a display.
"Alright, at least they’re better than me. With these four skills, they could probably outperform me. Big Brother shouldn’t be too picky about Little Brother." Qin Muye quickly calmed down and decided to recruit all 10 goblins from the workshop.
Recruit 10 Goblins, Cost: 300 Gold
Qin Muye felt a pang of pain. Each goblin cost 30 gold, and he only had a thousand in total. Recruiting ten of them immediately drained 30%.
The transaction was completed, and ten goblins appeared before Qin Muye. However, he wasn’t happy at all because they looked too much like goblins.
Dressed in gray robes, with emerald-green skin and the pointed ears inherited from sprites, but made ugly and small by magical experiments, they looked frail, like little children. Qin Muye was certain they were no taller than 50 centimeters.
"Are these not just goblins? You put them in better clothes and call them goblins? Do you take me for a fool!!!"
This time, Qin Muye was truly at his breaking point.
"Great Lord, why do you compare us to those lowly goblins? We are your creations, born from the highest magic in the natural garden, far superior to those mindless goblins."
One of the goblins spoke up.
Qin Muye’s expression changed. "You, have intelligence?"
"Yes, Great Lord, our wisdom is a gift from your magic," another goblin replied.
At this moment, Qin Muye finally took a proper look at the goblins. They were indeed different from the goblins he remembered, more like civilized gnomes, polite and well-mannered, as if they had been professionally trained.
But their combat ability was probably lacking.
"Alright, I understand. I’ll leave it to you from here." Qin Muye reluctantly accepted them.
Though they might be a bit lacking, they were definitely better than him.
He then led the 10 goblins out of the territory, heading toward a wooden treasure chest he had found while waiting for the Goblin Workshop to be built.
The wooden treasure chest was being guarded by three wolves, and he dared not approach after taking a quick glance from a distance.
He wasn't just a weakling; he was practically a zero. Going any closer would be suicide.
He had gathered all the resources within his territory, but the amount was minimal: just 1 unit of wood, 3 units of minerals, and 2 units of food. To obtain more, he would have to venture beyond his comfort zone.
Activating his Basic Reconnaissance Skill, Qin Muye quickly obtained the data of the three wolves.
Unit Name: Wolf
Unit Rank: 1
Health: 10/10
Attack: 5
Defense: 3
Skills:
Bite: 10% chance to inflict Bleeding when using sharp teeth.
"Sure, no special skills, but these health and attack/defense stats are a bit too absurd."
Qin Muye was a bit stunned. One bite from these wolves could easily take out a Sprite.
However, while their attributes were strong, they only had one skill, which was far less impressive compared to the Sprites. The Bite skill had a probability-based effect, not a guaranteed one.
"I should be able to handle them, right? After all, I have ten Sprites, and there are only three wolves. We could overwhelm them with numbers."
Qin Muye wasn't entirely confident, but the allure of the wooden treasure chest was too strong to resist.
"Go, let's kill the wolves and get the experience and treasure chest." Qin Muye gave the order, and the Sprites charged forward without hesitation, completely ignoring the wolves' size advantage.
The battle began, and the three wolves rushed at them.
The plan was simple, but the reality was harsh.
In the first clash, one of the wolves swiped at the leading Sprite, sending it flying back with only a sliver of health remaining.
"Damn it, are you kidding me? One hit and it's almost dead! Retreat, retreat now!!!"
His warning came too late. Two more Sprites were attacked, but one was lucky enough to dodge. The other was hit on the arm, losing only 1 point of health.
Thankfully, it was still within the 7-day beginner period, so the wild creatures wouldn't pursue them. After Qin Muye ordered the retreat, the wolves returned to guard the treasure chest.
A humiliating defeat. You gained nothing.
One Sprite was critically injured, and another was lightly wounded.
The critically injured Sprite was being supported by two others, looking on the verge of death but still hanging on with 1 point of health. If it had lost any more, it would have been dead.
Qin Muye's expression was grim. "My attack power is 0, so I can't even break through their defenses."
The two Sprites that followed actually managed to hit one of the wolves, but with an attack power of 0 and the wolf's defense of 3, they caused no damage.
The first critically injured Sprite took the full brunt of the wolf's attack. Fortunately, the 1 point of defense provided by the Magic Essence Constitution reduced the damage by 1 point, otherwise, it would have been an instant kill.
The other Sprite, who was luckier, managed to dodge just in time, only losing 1 point of health from a hit on the arm. It was a stroke of luck that it didn't take the full damage.
"Two of you, take him back to the territory. You should also go back and recover. The rest, come with me to gather some more resources." Qin Muye said to the two Sprites supporting the critically injured one and the lightly wounded one. He didn't dare to think about fighting any more monsters until he found something they could actually handle.
After all, these Sprites were truly weak.
