Chapter 299: The Leak
Chapter 299: The Leak
On the continent of Calim.
A six-story Wizard Tower stood atop a mountain, shrouded by dark clouds, with natural defenses of thunder and lightning.
Todd Green, a Third Circle Archmage, sat cross-legged on the third floor of the tower, meticulously examining a corpse before him using various means.
"Mentor."
A young man in a wizard's robe approached, carrying a cup of hot tea, and spoke softly, "Still no results?"
"Hmm." Todd nodded, "This body is from the Eastern Kingdom Continent. Although there are many traces on it, the light of the Gods is hindering my exploration."
He was a high-level Archmage specializing in Gap Detection, Cause and Effect, and other Third Circle Spells. Every object, person, or creature that exists leaves behind imprints of time and environment on its essence.
And he,
Could deduce numerous clues from these imprints.
Alas!
This particular corpse came from a rather special place, even inaccessible to Fourth and Fifth Circle Wizards.
"It seems like there are three coexisting consciousnesses in the body," the young man remarked, "That's quite rare."
"Yes," Todd nodded, "Carl Bergman captured a couple. He turned the husband's body into a Lich, hiding the wife's consciousness deep within the husband's Spiritual Sea, and his own consciousness within hers. It's a rather intricate technique."
This method was highly concealed, and even Fourth Circle Wizards might not detect it.
But to the Green Family, it was full of flaws.
"The Lich's Soul Box Fragmentation Technique," the young man said.
"I thought Carl practiced the High Tower's Water Meditation, not Lich Heritage?"
"He did before," Todd replied, "But now, I'm not so sure. Nonetheless, he's undoubtedly a genius to have reached this level in such a short time."
"He must have already become a Third Circle Wizard!"
The young man's eyes widened in surprise.
As the Green Family's dedicated investigator, he had studied Carl Bergman's files.
Carl was only a decade older, yet he had already attained the rank of a Third Circle Wizard, and he was also a Forbidden Knight!
"Without any extraordinary encounters or exposure to the true Wizard World, it's impossible to achieve such a level," the young man thought.
Todd pondered, "There must be a secret hidden within Carl, and the family must have noticed this, which explains their keen interest."
"Hmm..."
"The items on the body are destroyed, right? With the Gods' protection, we can't investigate much."
"Yes," the young man bowed in agreement.
Carrying a pile of items, he exited the Wizard Tower and headed to his place of cultivation. With a light knock on the table, an elderly woman soon entered.
"Young Master," she greeted.
"Hmm," the young man nodded and waved his hand towards the items nearby, "Throw these into the incinerator."
"Yes," the elderly woman responded, picking up the clothes, books, and other items, and backing away.
Not long after, the elderly woman appeared in a market where wizards gathered, guided by someone to a shop.
The shopkeeper, a middle-aged man with a receding hairline and a red nose, smiled, "Second Sister, you've brought more treasures?"
"I don't know if they're treasures," the elderly woman shook her head, "But they're from the Eastern Kingdom Continent."
"Oh!" The man's eyes lit up, "Items from there are rare. Let me see."
He stepped forward, unfolding the garment and touching the fabric. He examined the seams and the material, "It's like silk mixed with something else. No traces of sorcery, but the fabric is excellent, and the stitching is fine, almost non-human. It could be a collectible."
"A pen that doesn't need ink?"
"A time-recording pocket watch, an unknown family crest..."
"And a book, but it's just a travelogue, not a sorcery manual. Still, someone might be interested in the Eastern Kingdom."
A man pondered for a moment before raising his head and speaking,
"Ten magic stones!"
"Good." The elderly woman smiled, revealing her teeth.
"It's a deal."
She was merely a servant tasked with managing the residence of the wizard, earning a limited monthly income. To increase her earnings, she occasionally sold items that the wizard no longer needed or wanted to dispose of.
After sending the elderly woman away, the middle-aged man with the red nose smiled and picked up the seemingly ordinary family crest.
"This is not just any family crest; it bears the image of a deity, and the book even has their divine name."
"The Source Essence Sovereign..."
"Boom!"
"Boom!"
Near the capital city, artillery fire rained down relentlessly, and the sturdy city walls crumbled like tofu under the onslaught of the cannons.
Ordinary cannons clearly did not possess such destructive power.
It was rumored that the Sak Kingdom's researchers had enlisted the help of wizards, infusing their latest artillery with sorcery.
"Woooo..."
Several aircraft flew overhead, dropping shells into the city, causing fiery explosions that lit up the sky.
"Swish!"
[69BookBar]
"Swish, swish!"
Multiple figures darted through the clouds, colliding with each other. Angels seemed to no longer care about revealing themselves to ordinary people.
At the outskirts of the city, in a manor.
Karl lay in a soft chair, gazing up at the battle above with a serene expression, as if watching a play.
"The war in the mortal world is an overflow from the divine battlefield. So, the Sun God has already gained the upper hand?"
"Hmph!"
Remiel stood by his side, her face pale, her body trembling slightly, her eyes filled with resentment.
"If the other deities were willing to intervene, the Sun God would never have made it this far!"
"It's too late now." Karl shook his head.
"The other deities are probably hoping for your deity to be defeated so they can devour the remaining followers and territories."
"Remiel..."
"I can't help you anymore."
He glanced at her, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes.
Who could have imagined...
Decades ago, when Remiel had just become an angel and was a messenger, she was now one of the twelve archangels under the Dawn Lord.
Of course...
It was also because, in recent years, several archangels had perished in battles, while Remiel had repeatedly proven her worth.
"I understand."
Remiel sighed,
"The Sun God won't give up so easily. After defeating the Mother Goddess, the other deities will also face His threat. If the gods possess infinite wisdom, why can't they see through this?"
"They understand, but they choose to let things unfold." Karl smiled,
"The fall of the Dawn Lord aligns more with their desires. Don't think such a thing won't happen. The ancient gods and the current six deities have exchanged places countless times, even though divinity remains unchanged."
In this world, the gods have been vying for the position of the Supreme God, but to become the Supreme God, one must devour the other deities.
For countless years,
The gods have fought each other, yet none have achieved it.
However, unlike other worlds, this world only has six deities, and each one is a high-ranking god.
The lower-ranking deities have long been devoured.
"Remiel."
Karl spoke,
"Did the Dawn Lord respond to my proposal?"
"You mean the path to ascend to divinity?" Remiel's face showed disdain,
"Karl, my friend, do you really think you can become a deity? It's simply impossible."
Karl wanted to negotiate with the Dawn Lord, offering something in exchange for the path to divinity.
Unfortunately,
The 'Dawn Lord' seemed to have no such intention or simply ignored Karl's proposal.
A mere mortal, even a third circle wizard, was no different from other mortals in the eyes of high-ranking deities.
They lacked the ability to intervene in the wars of the gods.
"Forget it!"
Karl shook his head,
"If the war continues, eventually, a deity will be willing to help."
