Chapter 299: Insight Program (Fourth Update)
Chapter 299: Insight Program (Fourth Update)
"Let's move to a different place first!"
As soon as Jerry sat down, he noticed a group of excited people running towards him with their phones. He immediately grabbed Thor and used Phantom Shift to transport them to the rooftop of a building.
Thor was a common sight, but Witch was rarely seen, and when she was, she was usually flying in the sky, making it hard to talk to her.
So when they saw Jerry standing next to Thor, a bunch of fans rushed over. Unfortunately, before they could reach them, the two had already disappeared from the spot.
"You and Jane seemed to have a good relationship. What did you argue about?"
On the rooftop, Jerry took a sip of beer and curiously asked.
Thor sighed:
"Many things, big and small—behavior, habits, cultural differences, and so on. I thought these wouldn't be problems, but they all became issues."
"That's normal. After the initial romance wears off, daily life brings all sorts of small matters to the surface. Especially since you come from two different worlds, it will take more time to adapt. Don't be so down."
Hearing Thor's problem, Jerry couldn't help but smile and offer some comfort. Although Jerry had no romantic experience, he had watched plenty of TV shows in his past life.
Someone once said that watching Korean dramas makes you want to fall in love, Thai dramas make you want revenge, and Chinese dramas make you want to get divorced.
This is because Korean dramas are often about passionate love stories, where two people are always together, naturally filled with freshness and passion.
On the other hand, many Chinese dramas focus on life after living together or getting married, where the honeymoon phase is over and daily life brings various conflicts and adjustments in values and habits.
Thor and Jane come from two different worlds, with a significant gap in their worldviews and habits. It's normal for there to be friction and conflicts.
"But I feel that we had already adjusted to each other over this period. Why did she suddenly change, becoming so distant? She even left New York for London, saying she needed to attend an academic exchange. I know she's avoiding me, so I plan to go back to Asgard to clear my mind."
Thor growled and drank all the beer in one go.
"Are you sure her attitude changed suddenly?"
Jerry raised an eyebrow.
Generally, if there are some daily conflicts, they tend to develop gradually. A sudden change in attitude usually indicates a special situation. For example, an affair?
However, Jerry thought it was unlikely. He had met Jane, and she wasn't the type to be unfaithful. Thor, though not the smartest, was very attractive, and with his muscular build, most women in this country would find it hard to resist him.
"Yes, it happened right after I mentioned my age to her. Could it be that she's bothered by how old I am?"
Thor couldn't help but speculate.
"Hmm, I don't think that's the reason, but it's definitely related to your age!"
Jerry felt that it was unlikely Jane was bothered by Thor's age. The most plausible explanation was that she suddenly realized Thor would live for a very long time, while she only had a century or so.
Perhaps she couldn't accept the idea that a few decades from now, she would be an old woman with wrinkles, while Thor would still be a handsome and strong young man.
However, Jerry didn't voice this theory because it was an unsolvable problem. Unless Jane could achieve eternal life, there was no good solution, at least not at the moment.
He also wanted Has, Aisha, and others to achieve eternal life like him, but they lacked the qualifications to practice meditation techniques.
It might also be possible to get the Philosopher's Stone the next time he visits Harry Potter World, but that would only be a temporary solution. Although it would keep a person alive, their physical body would continue to age, which doesn't count as true Eternal Life.
Perhaps, when other Mini Worlds appear in the future, he might find a way to achieve Eternal Life without any side effects.
"Forget it, I'll think about it later. It's been a while since I last saw Odin and the Queen Mother, and I haven't had a drink with fandral and the others in a long time. I might as well go back and visit."
Thor smashed the beer bottle on the rooftop and asked Jerry:
"Do you want to come along?"
"No, you know, I have school tomorrow!"
Jerry shrugged.
He had already mastered Asgard's magic system to a considerable extent. To delve deeper, he would have to rely on himself. Discussing magic with Frigga, the Queen Mother, wouldn't offer much additional benefit now.
"Alright, Heimdall!"
Thor raised Mjolnir and roared to the sky, and a rainbow immediately transported him away.
"Heimdall's Eyes are indeed impressive!"
Jerry couldn't help but marvel at the sight.
Heimdall, the guardian of the Bifrost, was born with eyes that could see any part of the Nine Realms. If he wished, he could clearly see anyone and anything in any corner of the Nine Realms.
However, he only had one pair of eyes. Unless someone called his name, he couldn't possibly know everything while watching over the Nine Realms and guarding Asgard.
At the Triskelion, the headquarters of S.H.I.E.L.D. in Washington, on the 40th floor, in a large office, an elderly man in a suit, who looked to be at least in his sixties, was passionately arguing with several virtual projections.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I believe Director Fury's proposed 'Insight Program' can significantly eliminate potential threats, just like the notorious terrorist organization we dealt with last time. If the Insight Program had been in place, they would have been eliminated by our Sky Carriers before they could even begin their terrorist activities. We wouldn't have needed the Witch and Iron Man to intervene."
"Mr. Secretary, the scope of this Insight Program is too vast. We need to carefully consider it!"
After a lengthy discussion, the virtual projections of the World Security Council members disappeared.
The elderly man, known as the Secretary, smiled as he left the meeting room and shook hands with Nick Fury, who had been waiting outside.
"Don't worry, they will eventually agree. I have a way to convince them!"
"Thank you, sir!"
Nick Fury's face lit up with a smile.
The elderly man in front of him was named Alexander Pierce, the former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the current Secretary of the World Security Council. He was the one who had strongly recommended Nick Fury for the position of S.H.I.E.L.D. Director.
Over the years, thanks to the former S.H.I.E.L.D. Director's constant advocacy within the World Security Council, S.H.I.E.L.D. had experienced significant growth and secured ample funding.
Nick Fury genuinely appreciated everything the former Director had done for him.
"Please, just remember to visit me often!"
Pierce smiled and patted Nick Fury on the shoulder.
After Nick Fury left, Pierce returned to his seat and pulled out a file from a drawer, placing it on the table. The name on the file was: Jerry Carmen.
