Chapter 299: A Few Events in Konoha [27]
Chapter 299: A Few Events in Konoha [27]
"Then I shall go and prepare."
Lin Yan smiled and instantly disappeared from the rooftop.
After all, Feng Ye was the Hokage, and she was one of the captains of his shadow guards and the minister of the medical department. Most likely, Yuhi Kurenai would shamelessly tag along as well. With three of Konoha's high-ranking officials leaving, some arrangements needed to be made.
Feng Ye stood with his hands behind his back, his gaze sweeping across the countless buildings of Konoha. A faint cerulean glint flashed in his eyes as he spotted Might Guy and his father, Dai, running through the village. Dai's back was drenched in sweat, and for once, he looked tired.
"Ah... My youth... is almost burning out..."
"A man should never give up so easily! Dad, let's keep burning with passion!"
Guy shouted, grabbing Dai's hand and continuing their run, unfazed by the stiff stares they attracted from passersby.
Feng Ye's gaze continued to roam, landing on the Ninja Academy where some classes were in session, while others gathered in the spacious training ground for sparring.
On the viewing platform stood the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, observing the students' training.
The Ninja Academy's area had nearly tripled in size and now accommodated children from Kumo and Iwa, the two Great Ninja Villages, instilling in them the Will of Fire that symbolized Konoha.
It was undeniable that Hiruzen Sarutobi had played a crucial role, at least in spreading the Will of Fire and indoctrinating the young minds, transforming them into believers.
As Feng Ye's gaze fell upon the training ground, he happened to catch Naruto and Sasuke brawling.
As the two most popular boys in their class, one openly acknowledged as the son of the Fourth Hokage, and the other having avoided the Uchiha clan massacre, they were destined to be at odds.
"I will become the Hokage... I won't lose to you!"
Naruto's body was bruised and battered, yet he gritted his teeth and threw punches at Sasuke.
Sasuke, equally breathless, showed no signs of backing down. "You can never defeat the power of the Uchiha clan!"
Bang! Bang!
Their fists collided with each other's faces, distorting their features momentarily before they both went flying and crashed to the ground several meters away, unable to get up.
The jonin teacher sighed, watching the scene unfold. "It's a draw, Naruto and Sasuke."
"Next round, Hinata Hyuga versus Kiba Inuzuka."
Hearing the jonin teacher's announcement, Kiba's face fell. "Why do I have to fight a girl?"
"Because there's an odd number of girls," Shikamaru Nara replied wearily from the sidelines. He hadn't expected to be one of the last few pairs in the rotation. If he had known, he would have simply skipped class. Standing here had been a waste of time, and he had thought he could get away with a quick spar in the earlier rounds. It was all so troublesome.
"Please... be gentle," Hinata said softly as she stepped into the sparring area.
Someone from the audience spoke up. "Hinata is a ninja from the prestigious Hyuga clan. Don't underestimate her because she's a girl, or you'll lose."
Kiba walked into the sparring area reluctantly. "You can go first..."
Due to the constant seal on Haku's chakra, Hinata's growth had been relatively stable. Moreover, because of Haku's chakra and Feng Ye's influence, Hiashi Hyuga hadn't been too strict with her training.
Facing Kiba, Hinata quickly lost the match.
"Kiba Inuzuka wins," the jonin teacher announced.
A thoughtful look crossed Feng Ye's face as he activated his Rinnegan, focusing on Hinata's body. He noticed Haku's chakra, sealed within her hair and separated from her body, had reached a level comparable to that of a tailed beast.
"It's about time..." Feng Ye murmured to himself.
Hinata was almost ten years old, an age by which children in wartimes would have already graduated from the Academy and become genin. Many would have even advanced to the level of chunin by then.
Her ten-year-old body should be ready to start controlling and drawing upon Haku's chakra.
Whoosh!!
Just as Feng Ye was deep in thought, Kakashi appeared behind him.
Kakashi walked up to Feng Ye and asked, "I thought we were supposed to take action in two days. Why did you suddenly decide to go on vacation?"
"It's just a whim. Don't worry; the original plan remains unchanged." Feng Ye turned to Kakashi, patted him on the shoulder, and said, "You've become a qualified captain of the shadow guards. It's time for you to learn to handle problems independently.
"By the way."
"Hold on a second."
Feng Ye stopped Kakashi just as he was about to disappear into the vortex of his Kamui technique, pulling him back, "Go to the Ninja Academy and ask Hinata Hyuga to come to my office after school."
"Hinata? The young lady of the Hyuga clan?"
Kakashi gave Feng Ye a strange look, "I thought she's only ten years old."
Feng Ye: "?"
That sounded a bit odd.
In recent years, Kakashi had become more mature and level-headed, shedding his habit of being sarcastic. However, occasionally, he would still blurt out something that sounded reasonable on the surface but felt a bit off.
Resisting the urge to pinch Kakashi, Feng Ye watched as he disappeared into the black vortex and let out a helpless sigh.
Feng Ye couldn't help but think of Sasuke. Although Sasuke acted all high and mighty in front of others, he was still quite adorable when it came to his brother, Itachi.
...
A moment later.
Inside the Hokage's office.
Feng Ye sat behind the Hokage's desk, looking at Hinata, who stood in front of it, "Has your father ever told you about the power within you?"
"Power?"
Hinata asked, puzzled.
Feng Ye stood up, walked around the desk, and stood next to Hinata, looking at a strand of her hair, "It seems Hiashi hasn't told you... Well, then I'll explain it to you."
"You possess a portion of the chakra inherited from your ancestor, Hamura Otsutsuki, of the Hyuga clan. This chakra is extremely powerful and challenging to control. So, when you were very young, I sealed this power within you."
At this point, Feng Ye extended his hand.
Hinata listened, dazed, still processing this sudden news. Then, she saw Feng Ye's hand reaching out, his fingers brushing through her hair.
Zii!
The seal containing Hamura's chakra was momentarily released by Feng Ye, and a surge of powerful chakra gushed out, turning into a whirlwind that spread in all directions.
Feng Ye slightly raised his right hand, suppressing the massive chakra wave, and with a quick finger movement, resealed it.
Even though it was just a brief release and suppression.
The sheer magnitude of chakra still made Hinata's body tremble, and she broke into a cold sweat, staggering backward and nearly falling.
Feng Ye's left hand reached out, channeling chakra to gently catch Hinata, lifting her into the air, and setting her down on the sofa next to him.
"How do you feel?"
"Can you sense it? That's the power sealed within you."
Hinata's chest heaved, and it took her nearly half a minute to calm her breathing. She looked at Feng Ye with a trembling gaze, "Hokage-sama..."
"Don't be afraid."
Feng Ye smiled at her reassuringly, "The seal was necessary because you were too young back then to attempt to control this power. Now, I will start teaching you how to harness it. You'll probably be on holiday tomorrow, so use this time to train with me."
Hearing Feng Ye's words, Hinata, who was still catching her breath, widened her eyes slightly and stared at him, a bit dazed.
Although she was almost ten years old, her personality was gentle and timid. Still, she understood what it meant to train with Feng Ye—it was an honor for any ninja, as it meant earning his acknowledgment!
It seemed like her holiday plans were canceled.
But compared to a vacation, she undoubtedly preferred to train with Feng Ye.
"Go and discuss this with your father."
"Also, from now on, you don't have to call me Hokage-sama. You can call me Feng Ye-sensei."
Feng Ye smiled and returned to his seat behind the desk.
In the original storyline, Hinata was a disciple of Kurenai Yuhi. Now, with Kurenai's future role uncertain, it seemed Hinata becoming his disciple was the turning of the fate wheel.
As for Kurenai's other two disciples, Kiba Inuzuka and Shino Aburame...
Well...
They weren't as cute as the young Naruto and Sasuke, so they could play among themselves.
Speaking of Naruto and Sasuke, they weren't as adorable as they used to be when they were younger. It's a bit saddening how humans grow up.
