Chapter 298: Goodbye Dobby
Chapter 298: Goodbye Dobby
The rest of the weekend was spent studying and organizing the Study Group meeting, making it a very fulfilling time. After a productive weekend, Liam finished up early on Sunday evening and got into bed, ready to sleep. However, just a few minutes after he closed his eyes, he felt something heavy land on his stomach.
“Rose Crystal, what are you doing?” Liam whispered, trying to keep his voice down. At this hour, it could only be the little Rose Crystal who could appear silently. Fortunately, it was winter, and everyone pulled their bed curtains down when they slept, so his roommates didn’t notice the unusual scene.
Rose Crystal, who possessed a part of Liam's soul, could use some of the Multiverse General Store's functions, such as opening portals to worlds Liam had authorized. This was how she could suddenly appear here.
“Big Brother, there’s something I need your permission for,” Rose Crystal said, flying to the head of the bed where Liam could see her, then kneeling on the pillow.
It turned out that after returning to the Rosary Maiden world, she was welcomed warmly as expected. After recounting her adventures in the new world, everyone became fascinated with the world of A Song of Ice and Fire.
However, Teacher Luo Zhen, upon receiving the magical data from the A Song of Ice and Fire world, went into seclusion to study it, and Alice, having mastered her supernatural powers, wouldn’t miss any chance to be with her father. In this situation, Rogen’s six puppet daughters decided to take advantage of this somewhat dull period to visit the new world with Rose Crystal.
“This time, Mercury Lamp, Canary, Emerald, Azure, and the two new daughters Teacher Luo Zhen created, Crimson and Berry, will be joining us,” Rose Crystal counted on her fingers. “Including me, that’s seven of us. Big Brother, can you give us permission to go to that world?”
Since these puppets, in every sense, did not have complete souls and were seen by the Multiverse General Store as extensions of Rogen's soul, similar to Rose Crystal and Liam's relationship, they didn’t need Deviation Points to pass through the portal.
“Alright, have fun, but remember, you absolutely must not harm anyone,” Liam said seriously after giving the six little puppets permission to travel to the A Song of Ice and Fire world.
“No problem, Big Brother. Teacher Luo Zhen and Alice-nee also warned us before we left. We promise we won’t do anything bad.” After agreeing, a blue light flashed, and Rose Crystal disappeared from the room.
“A little one who causes so much trouble—I can’t imagine how Rogen manages to raise so many,” Liam muttered to himself. He didn’t yet realize how significant the impact of his permission would be on that world.
After Rose Crystal left, Liam grumbled a bit more, then turned over and went back to sleep. He was tired after a busy day, and he had classes to attend the next day. Soon, soft snores could be heard from the bed.
The next day at lunchtime, as he returned from eating, Liam entered the Common Room and saw a colorful thing suddenly pounce on Harry, accompanied by a scream: “Mr. Harry Potter! Harry Potter!”
“Protective Shield.” “Impediment Jinx.” Liam and Hermione worked in perfect sync; one cast a shield around Harry, while the other knocked the small creature flying. It landed on the sofa with a thud.
“Dobby?” Harry looked at the little creature on the sofa, surprised.
“It’s Dobby, sir, it’s Dobby!” The house-elf, looking unharmed, jumped off the sofa and screamed, “Dobby has been waiting and waiting, hoping to see Mr. Harry Potter. But when he heard that Harry Potter was going to participate in an important Tournament and might be very busy, Dobby took the opportunity to visit Harry Potter while cleaning the castle, sir!”
Dobby’s appearance was more exaggerated now than when Liam saw him in second year. The dirty old pillowcase had been replaced with a clean teapot cover, and he was adorned with various badges and a tie. He wore a pair of children’s shorts and gray wool socks.
“How did you get here? You’re not trying to save Harry again, are you?” Hermione said with a slightly sarcastic tone. Although it was confirmed that the Headmaster had ordered Lucius to release his house-elf as punishment, which indirectly verified that Dobby had indeed been trying to save Harry in second year, Hermione, who had worked hard with Liam to stop Dobby from almost getting Harry seriously injured during the Tournament, still considered the house-elf a dangerous individual, one who should be kept as far away from everyone as possible.
“No, noble miss, Dobby is only here to work at Hogwarts this time. Great Professor Dumbledore has told Dobby that his previous methods were wrong, and Dobby swears that such mistakes will never happen again.”
“That’s good to hear.” Hermione turned around and went back to the dormitory to grab a few books before heading to the Library with Liam. It wasn’t until dinner that she learned from Harry that Dobby was indeed just visiting him. After gaining his freedom, Dobby had asked numerous wizarding families for work, but none of them wanted a house-elf who demanded wages. In the end, Dobby found a job at Hogwarts that was willing to pay him.
“No wonder Muggle-born wizards can’t find good jobs. Who would want paid workers when they have free slaves?” Hermione muttered.
“You haven’t mentioned that most of the wizarding world’s industries are run by Pure-blood Wizards. They prefer house-elves, who can keep their secrets, over paid, free workers,” Liam added.
The two then discussed the freed slaves of ancient Rome, the serfdom reforms in Russia, and the slaves and the American Civil War. Harry and Ron listened to their conversation as if it were a foreign language. They soon gave up trying to understand what Liam was talking about and focused on their dinner.
During the Triwizard Tournament, Hogwarts’ classes continued as usual. Fortunately, Liam, as a participant, was exempt from most of his homework, giving him more time to master new magic and create some Valyrian Steel equipment.
The first batch of equipment he made included a scimitar, a knight’s sword, and an Eastern sword. He also crafted several arrowheads as gifts for Aunt Betty’s children the next time he saw them.
Centaur archers often used various magical materials and coated their arrowheads with different potions. These arrowheads were far more lethal to ordinary wizards than Muggle firearms. For example, Gormlaith, a powerful Dark Wizard and a direct descendant of Salazar Slytherin, was killed by such an arrow. Of course, the materials on that arrow were of a much higher quality than what the centaurs in the forest used now. Liam hoped to use these arrowheads as gifts to gauge how Valyrian Steel compared to other magical materials in this world.
As the days passed in a flurry of activity, the time slowly approached Thursday. That day, Professor Mcgonagall announced something important in her class.
