Chapter 298: Eavesdropping
Chapter 298: Eavesdropping
Upon witnessing this scene, the five pet beast merchants were nowhere near daring to linger. They quickly left with their heads hanging low in defeat.
Seeing the merchants leave, Li Qian's smile was both amused and mocking as he added, "Love, it's truly wonderful and magnificent!"
The implied meaning behind Li Qian's words was so obvious that even Old Ti, who rarely blushed, couldn't help but turn red.
He glanced at Ms. Han Ke, who was standing not far from him. Compared to her, he felt like a disheveled old man.
Thinking of this, a hint of shame and self-disgust arose within him. With his complex emotions, he was at a loss for words for a moment.
"You little brat, a virgin complaining for no reason. How many relationships have you had?" To ease the awkwardness, he directly targeted Li Qian.
Li Qian didn't mind and casually joked, not taking Old Ti's words to heart. "Hehe, I'm not in a hurry. I'm still young, and there will be plenty of opportunities in the future."
Without pausing, he continued to tease, "But some people need to seize the time and set an example for a young man like me."
"Don't be so cryptic, old man. When I was dating, you weren't even a fetus yet!" Old Ti retorted. Their relationship was good, and it wouldn't be an exaggeration to call it a friendship across generations, so they could joke around freely.
Li Qian didn't waste time bantering with Old Ti. After a few more words, he gave a glance to Ms. Han Ke, who was standing nearby, and said, "Well, from the sky above, the scenery inside the Nine Number Outpost seems pretty good. Beautiful senior sister Elena, would you mind taking me for a walk?"
Upon hearing this, Elena was taken aback for a moment. Initially, she was a bit confused, unsure of Li Qian's intentions. However, after seeing his continuous eye signals, she understood.
"Yes, let's go for a walk then." After realizing, Elena didn't hesitate and immediately joined Li Qian, ready to leave the wall.
Old Ti couldn't help but twitch his mouth at their clumsy performance.
Li Qian's intention was as clear as day; he wanted to find an excuse to leave and give them some space. But the excuse he came up with was rather poor.
The two hurriedly left the wall, and as soon as they descended, Li Qian couldn't contain his curiosity and prepared to hide and eavesdrop.
"What are you doing?" Elena had never experienced such a situation before, so she asked curiously with a puzzled expression.
Li Qian chuckled, smirked, and then spoke with a profound meaning, "Don't you wonder what they'll talk about?"
"I am curious, but isn't eavesdropping a bit inappropriate?" Elena understood Li Qian's intention and furrowed her brows.
"What's wrong with that? I'm just screening for them. At a critical moment, I might even be able to give them a little push." Li Qian justified his eavesdropping with a noble cause.
Elena glanced at Li Qian deeply, and soon, a faint smile appeared on her lips. "I mean, if we eavesdrop like this, it won't work. My mother is an Imperial Rank Beastmaster, and Iron Teacher is a Peak Overlord Rank Beastmaster. We'll definitely be discovered."
"What?
Li Qian was a little dazed, unsure of what Elena was trying to convey. And then, in this somewhat bewildered state, he heard her next words, which, for a moment, made him feel a little conflicted.
"Wait, I'll summon the Dream Eater. It's a psychic-type companion beast with extremely strong perception. Even if it's far away, it can sense the conversation between my mother and Old Ti, and then it can just repeat the conversation."
Li Qian's eyes widened as he listened to Elena's words.
He couldn't help but start to complain in his heart.
So, this is the real Elena, I thought she was proud, cold, and not one to joke around, but who knew she'd be such a joker.
As they spoke, the two quickly walked away and reached a spot about two kilometers away from the city wall.
They randomly found a hidden place, a street corner, where there were two small stools, which seemed to be used for isolation, but they also made decent little stools.
The two sat down on the stools, and as the summoning array lit up, a beast, about the size of a full-grown cat, floated in mid-air, resembling an elephant.
This beast, resembling a small elephant with a transparent, colorless gemstone embedded between its brows, was Elena's second companion beast—the Dream Eater.
The Dream Eater, with its racial potential reaching the middle-tier of the Overlord rank, possessed the rare psychic-type attribute.
"A-Meng, sense and see if you can perceive the conversation between my mother and Old Ti," Elena immediately commanded as soon as the Dream Eater appeared.
A-Meng, the Dream Eater, nodded and the gemstone on its forehead began to emit a faint blue light.
Soon, it provided a mental response, 'I can sense it.'
Elena continued to instruct, "Repeat their conversation."
The Dream Eater nodded, and at the Nine Number Outpost, on the wall, Old Ti felt a bit awkward and hesitated for a moment before speaking, "You, how did you come here?"
"I heard from Elena that the new student, Li Qian, can help your Golden Bud evolve into the Tidal Sea Spirit."
Ms. Han Ke glanced at Old Ti and said with a hint of resentment, "If I hadn't accompanied them here, I wouldn't have known that you've already arrived at the Nine Number Outpost."
"I'm getting old, and I don't know how many years I have left. I want to do something meaningful while I still have the strength," Old Ti said.
Ms. Han Ke immediately spoke up, "Don't say such things. After your Golden Bud evolves into the Tidal Sea Spirit and receives the evolution feedback, all the hidden injuries you've accumulated over the years should be completely healed."
"When the time comes..."
Ms. Han Ke wanted to continue, but just then, Old Ti suddenly spoke up, interrupting her.
"Wait, something's not right..." Old Ti sensed something unusual and, after careful consideration, sighed helplessly, "There are two little ones eavesdropping!"
"What?" Ms. Han Ke was taken aback for a moment, but soon she realized what was happening, and she also began to sense the surroundings. After a while, she also noticed it and couldn't help but shake her head, "These two little ones have learned to eavesdrop by the corner..."
"It must be that Li Qian who taught them. Elena has always been well-behaved..." Old Ti didn't finish his sentence and immediately blamed Li Qian.
