Chapter 298: All for the Sake of Psychic Power
Chapter 298: All for the Sake of Psychic Power
At 6 AM the next morning, Su Yu woke up from his deep sleep. Still a bit groggy, he suddenly felt a strange sensation on his right arm.
Lifting the blanket, he found that Chenxin had somehow snuggled into his bed and was fast asleep, hugging his arm tightly. It seemed she had mistaken his arm for a giant piece of fish jerky, as she occasionally drooled on it.
Su Yu grimaced and grabbed a tissue from the bedside table to wipe the drool away. Then, using the power of the diamond rune, he sent Chenxin back to the pet space, where she could continue sleeping.
After taking care of that, Su Yu got up, washed up, and went downstairs to have breakfast. Although at his level, he no longer needed to eat or sleep—just a brief meditation could restore his energy and maintain his biological functions—he still felt that something was missing without a meal. Even if he wasn’t hungry, not eating for a day left him feeling uneasy.
So, Su Yu stuck to his routine and went to the breakfast shop downstairs. He ordered his usual: a bowl of tofu pudding and three yuan worth of fried dough sticks.
After eating his fill, Su Yu returned to his apartment, ready to log back into the game. However, as he approached the entrance of the apartment building, he saw a kind old man standing there. This man was none other than Zhu Guorui.
Seeing Su Yu, Zhu Guorui greeted him warmly, “Good morning, Su Yu! I need to speak with you.”
“What is it?” Su Yu asked respectfully.
“Let’s go inside and talk,” Zhu Guorui said, gesturing for Su Yu to follow him. He led the way into his first-floor apartment.
As they entered, Su Yu was taken aback by the vast, open space. Zhu Guorui had demolished all the walls, floors, and even load-bearing structures from the first to the third floor, leaving only the outer walls intact. To ensure the building’s stability, he had used a special magical array, making it even more solid than before.
The area was now incredibly spacious and bright. Zhu Guorui had also personalized it with an ancient, traditional Chinese aesthetic, completely transforming its appearance.
“Please, have a seat, Su Yu,” Zhu Guorui said, pointing to a prominent redwood bench in the living room.
Su Yu didn’t hesitate and sat down, accepting a cup of clear tea from a servant. The scene felt like something out of a classic Chinese fantasy drama.
“Senior, what brings you to see me?” Su Yu asked.
He couldn’t help but reflect on the differences in the living spaces of the powerful figures from ancient times. Cao Chengxiang, who lived on the top floor, had similarly transformed the three floors of his penthouse by removing all the walls and floors except the outer ones. However, his decor was decidedly futuristic, with robots, electronic dogs, and large 3D projection screens, creating a stark contrast to Zhu Guorui’s traditional style.
It seemed that the personalities of these ancient powerhouses varied greatly.
Zhu Guorui paused for a moment before slowly answering, “The government’s top brass held a meeting all night about the kitten you brought out of the game. They have already taken action, and the ‘relevant departments’ have received orders to try to find NPCs in the game that can enter the real world.”
"Each of them can be revived ten times, which will be a huge help in our fight against the Skrulls!"
Su Yu nodded, this was exactly what he had expected.
"And there's a second reason I called you here—both Chancellor Cao and I are very concerned about you."
"Concerned about me?" Su Yu was puzzled. Why were these two suddenly worried about him?
Zhu Guorui explained, "We're worried about the secret mission to infiltrate Skrull in a month. We fear you might not come back."
Before Su Yu could respond, Zhu Guorui continued, "Chancellor Cao and I have both held power in this country and have accumulated a significant amount of resources. We have numerous means to protect ourselves and are among the strongest cultivators of our level. But what about you?"
Zhu Guorui glanced at Su Yu and shook his head. "Your improvement has been too rapid, and your mastery of your abilities is far from that of your peers. The equipment you bring from the game is also inadequate, and you have few means to protect yourself. That's why Chancellor Cao and I are very worried that you might not return from Skrull."
Su Yu couldn't help but twitch his lips at Zhu Guorui's words.
He had been worried that these two old guys would rush to Skrull and die there, but it turned out they were concerned about him first! However, Zhu Guorui's words did ring a bell. In the time to come, besides his cultivation, he needed to enhance his equipment, skills, and items.
Su Yu nodded and replied, "Don't worry, Senior. I'll pay attention to this issue. Besides, I have the ability to foresee, which can help me avoid many risks."
"Be careful, after all, it's your life," Zhu Guorui emphasized.
"Don't worry, Senior," Su Yu smiled and changed the subject. "But why are you and Chancellor Cao going to Skrull?"
This was a question Su Yu had wanted to ask for a while but never got around to.
Su Yu was going to Skrull to contact the anti-government organization there and establish a communication bridge between humans and the Skrull resistance.
Zhu Guorui was more straightforward, but Chancellor Cao's character was more inclined towards what could be politely called "individualism" or less politely called "selfishness." They didn't seem like the type to willingly sacrifice themselves.
"About that," Zhu Guorui stroked his beard, pondering.
After a long pause, he slowly said, "The most important reason is the lack of psychic energy."
" Lack of psychic energy?"
"Exactly." Zhu Guorui explained, "Although you secured two psychic springs for humanity, the amount of psychic energy is far from enough."
"Every ancient power in the world is eyeing the energy from those two springs, trying to get as much as possible. Additionally, manufacturing 'Spirit-seeking Rulers' requires a significant amount of psychic energy, leaving very little for Chancellor Cao and me."
Su Yu nodded, "So, you're planning to go to Skrull to obtain psychic energy?"
"Exactly," Zhu Guorui said seriously. "Skrull already has a lot of psychic energy, and they've also taken a lot from our Blue Star."
"Given that we know their strengths and weaknesses, it's better to take a risk now!"
"If we win, we can quickly restore our strength and even reach a higher level before the war. If we lose... well, if we lose, we lose. Like Chen Youliang and Zhang Shicheng, we'll just be a smaller part of history."
"I understand," Su Yu sighed lightly.
