Chapter 297: Two Things to Fear
Chapter 297: Two Things to Fear
Forget it, what does this have to do with him, a third-year student?
Ivan thought for a long time before shaking his head. There were solutions, but these were matters for Dumbledore and the Minister of Magic, Fudge, to consider.
Moreover, the Ministry of Magic had close ties with the Muggle Prime Minister, which indicated that the situation was far more complicated than he had imagined.
Ivan quickly brushed this system task aside. He had no intention of touching such a suicidal mission.
"Ivan, what did you say just now?" Hermione asked curiously. The Ministry of Magic was fine, so why did he suddenly say it was about to end?
"Nothing, you must have misunderstood. I didn't say anything." Ivan came back to his senses, looked at Hermione, and shook his head.
Hermione gave Ivan a strange look but didn't press the matter.
A Muggle Studies class quickly passed under Professor Cuthbert Binns' lecture.
To earn more House Points, Ivan naturally brought out the same enthusiasm he had shown in the previous two years. Whenever Professor Binns asked a question in class, Ivan would be the first to stand up and answer.
Professor Binns was extremely satisfied with Ivan. She had never seen a young wizard who understood the conflicts between the magical world and the Muggle world so deeply. She generously awarded Ivan more than thirty points in a single class.
After class, Ivan left the Muggle Studies classroom with a sense of satisfaction.
If every class could be like this, Ivan believed he could earn over two hundred House Points in a day.
Hermione looked at him somewhat gloomily. With Ivan in the class, there was no room for anyone else to shine.
Just as Hermione was about to say something, she heard a voice from behind.
"This is the most boring class I've ever attended! Why do we need to learn about Muggle cars and planes? We can get to any place we want with just a wave of our Wands!"
Ivan and Hermione turned around and saw a girl in a Slytherin robe speaking. She looked arrogant, and the few young wizards around her nodded in agreement.
After listening for a while, Hermione couldn't help but ask, "If you're not interested in Muggle Studies, why did you choose this class?"
The haughty Slytherin girl looked at Hermione in surprise, then said with disdain, "I took this class to understand why Muggles are so stupid that they can't even learn magic!"
This comment immediately drew some laughter from the other young wizards.
In the corridor, many students from Muggle families glared at them.
"Thanks to the Muggle Protection Act, we can't just use a simple spell to make Muggles dance to our tune", the Slytherin girl continued, unbothered by Professor Binns' theories, which she considered madness in the magical world.
"Also, why do you defend Muggles so much? Are you a Mudblood? I think Hogwarts should be more selective when admitting students. It should only accept talented Pureblood Wizards like us", the Slytherin girl sneered.
Ivan frowned, but Hermione was the first to lash out.
"Enough!"
"My parents are indeed Muggles, but I achieved Outstanding in most of my subjects last year. What about you? Did you manage to do the same?"
"And as far as I know, many famous wizards are half-bloods or from Muggle families. Blood status doesn’t determine a person’s talent! Pure-bloods aren’t any smarter than Muggles!"
Hermione's voice was sharp, and the proud Slytherin girl stammered, unsure of what to say, before finally retorting angrily.
"So what? My father is the head of the Department of Magical Transportation, and no matter what, I’ll always be better than you, Mudblood!"
"Then keep relying on your father", Hermione scoffed.
The Slytherin girl was visibly irritated. She gritted her teeth and drew her Wand, intending to cast a curse.
But Hermione was faster. She pointed her Wand at the other girl first.
A brilliant red light shot from the tip of her Wand, striking the Slytherin girl. The latter let out a shrill scream as she was knocked to the ground, her Wand flying from her hand.
"Let's go!" Hermione reached out and caught the Wand that was flying through the air, then tossed it back at the Slytherin girl before pulling Ivan away.
Hermione dragged Ivan along, walking aimlessly until her anger subsided. Then, she began to feel a bit regretful and said with frustration.
"Professor Dumbledore clearly told me not to interact too much with others while using the Time Turner. If I had known, I wouldn’t have cast that spell. Now, many people will guess that we were in two places at the same time!"
They had three classes that morning, and some young witches and wizards were bound to notice.
"Forget the rule. We’ll be doing this for the entire school year. Unless everyone is a fool, someone is bound to figure it out."
Ivan had always thought that Dumbledore’s warnings about the taboos were unreliable, possibly to prevent them from abusing the Time Turner’s power.
There were only two things Ivan was truly wary of.
First, deliberately changing the past, such as appearing in front of his past self.
Second, the time span of a single time travel being too long.
Ivan hadn’t forgotten that the magic item description in the system clearly stated that each turn of the Time Turner reversed time by one hour, and the risk increased with each turn.
What exactly was this risk?
Ivan felt it was necessary to confirm this at some point. He planned to travel back dozens of days, and any mishap during such a long time travel could certainly affect his plans.
Thinking about this, a shadow of concern crossed Ivan’s face, but he quickly regained his composure, not wanting Hermione to notice anything.
"By the way, Hermione, your magic is more impressive than I thought!" Ivan teased, knowing from his observations that the Disarming Charm Hermione had just cast was of high quality, nearly reaching the third level, which was the average for graduates.
She was much stronger than her counterpart in the original timeline.
"Compared to you, Ivan, it’s nothing", Hermione shook her head, feeling a sense of defeat as she looked at Ivan.
She had been practicing various spells diligently over the years, but each time, she felt the gap between her and Ivan growing wider.
