Chapter 297: Lanchi is Giving a Speech
Chapter 297: Lanchi is Giving a Speech
"It's about to begin."
On the road leading up to the square in front of the central building of the Protoss Royal Magic Academy, two figures walked side by side, chatting as they approached, their voices occasionally breaking the silence of the winter night.
Dressed differently from the teachers or students, they carried an air that set them apart from those around them.
In the darkness, their shadows twisted and contorted eerily on the ground.
"I wonder why Loki McCassy would participate in today's entrance examination at the Protoss Royal Magic Academy."
The visitor, clad in a deep gray coat, held a map of the academy and admired the ancient architecture as he made his way towards his destination.
"It's quite normal for him to be here, given that he's just a tutor for a border viscount's family. It's all part of his disguise," the other figure replied with a smile.
This group of newcomers was exceptionally talented, and as shadows of the Fate Goddess Church, they had been secretly deployed to the Protoss Empire. Their true identities as Eliminators had not yet been publicly revealed.
Among them were two Eliminators who had particularly caught the attention of the high priests of the Eliminator branch in the imperial capital of Helrom.
Loki McCassy.
Unlike another exceptionally talented candidate, Sid, it was highly certain that Loki had no ties to the Fate Goddess Church.
Originally, there were three high priests in the Eliminator Knights' Temple.
Now, only two remained.
If either of these two had been in charge of the examination a week ago, they might have suffered the same fate as High Priest Kaeus.
So, they had obtained visitor permits and arrived at the Protoss Royal Magic Academy on Wednesday after work.
Usually, members of the public were only allowed to stay on campus for a limited time and had to follow strict restrictions unless they had special permission.
Their goal was simple—to observe Loki McCassy's performance, and that was enough.
They made their way towards the central building of the academy, pausing when they reached their destination.
The only unexpected turn of events was that, as they approached, they saw that the large square in front of the central building was filled with students. They occupied the stone steps leading to the square, the benches on the sides, and every available space.
The students wore a range of expressions. Some were exceptionally excited, having claimed the best viewing spots early on, chatting eagerly with their companions. Others approached the event with a playful and mocking attitude.
Of course, there were also those who seemed indifferent, looking on with an air of disdain, perhaps considering such activities childish and beneath their interest.
Even so, they all lingered on the road, driven by curiosity, a reluctance to miss any moment in the academy, or simply the human tendency to gather in crowds, especially when there seemed to be no particular reason to do so.
As the minutes ticked by and seven o'clock drew near, the square became increasingly noisy.
"Someone asked around about Ten Seats, but they didn't say anything. They just left looking very grim," one student remarked.
"Not everyone, though," another chimed in. "Apparently, Miss Duchess Krolis looked quite normal, so it might not necessarily be bad news."
It was difficult to discern what had transpired that day.
Finally, as the clock struck seven, the atmosphere changed. Anticipation, curiosity, mockery, and disdain were all temporarily set aside as all eyes turned to the massive screen, awaiting the upcoming broadcast.
Immediately, confusion spread across the students' faces.
"?"
"??"
As the camera panned across the classrooms, there were no examinees to be seen.
An eerie silence fell, filled with a sense of strangeness.
The data column on the side of the screen displayed the results: zero students had participated in the last class of the entrance examination.
For some mysterious reason, half of the students who were supposed to take the exam had disappeared, and the remaining students had chosen to go to the resting area instead of participating.
With the teachers on holiday, the monthly assessment day had come to an early end.
"Where is everyone?"
"What's going on?"
The students in the square looked at each other in bewilderment, their excited smiles gradually freezing on their faces as this unexpected turn of events left them with an uneasy feeling.
Their hearts began to pound with a sense of discomfort.
As the camera switched to a classroom, voices could finally be heard.
The room was exceptionally lively, as if they were in a grand hall, with a figure standing at the front, giving a speech.
The teachers seated below seemed to be deeply moved by his previous words, as they enthusiastically applauded and responded to his calls.
Standing in the center of the vast hall, his tall figure was accentuated by the high dome, and his majestic shadow was cast upon a grand stone tablet engraved with a mural, resembling a gateway to the heavens. The lights of the hall transformed into rays of dawn, illuminating his dignified presence.
He raised his hand, signaling for quiet.
Soon, the hall was filled with only the faint sounds of coughing and shuffling.
"When we act, we must ensure that we move forward; we cannot retreat," his voice seemed to carry a unique power and an ability to connect emotionally, piercing through the hearts of his audience and resonating within them. As his words continued, the people in the hall were drawn in, falling into a deep, mesmerized silence.
"...Now, some ask, 'When will you be satisfied?' But I say to you, we are not satisfied now, and we will not be satisfied in the future, unless justice and fairness roll down like mighty waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream."
His voice grew stronger, and he raised his clenched fist,
"I have a dream today! I dream that one day, the valleys shall be exalted, the mountains and hills made low, the rough places will be made smooth, and the glory of the Divine shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together."
"Long live McCassy!"
"Long live McCassy!"
The teachers in the footage stood up and shouted in unison, their arms raised high.
It was as if an invisible force had been awakened within them, and their faces shone brighter and hotter than before, as if they had transformed into a group of warriors with a shared goal and belief, ready to fight for their dreams.
And outside the footage.
In the square in front of the central building.
Silence fell.
Even the night sky seemed to go quiet.
The younger students stood with their mouths agape, utterly clueless about what had just transpired.
The expressions of the older students became a map of emotions.
Even the high priest of the Extinction Branch was left stunned.
"...Is this some kind of religious ritual?" the high priest muttered to himself.
"You're asking me? I'm just a student; I can't give an evaluation. Perhaps the experts from the Church of Resurrection could offer some insights," replied a younger student.
The high priest was left speechless.
"...Indeed," he finally nodded.
They were too embarrassed to admit that they were from the Church of Resurrection.
And they couldn't give an evaluation either.
This guy was lucky to only be a fourth-rank; if he had been an eighth-rank, one could only imagine what kind of demonic god he would have become...
Standing in the square, the older students, whose brains felt like they were deteriorating, finally accepted the reality, despite not knowing the specifics.
This man, Loki McCassy, had not only evaded being hunted by anyone, but he had also likely been responsible for the disappearance of nearly half of the students!
His bounty must have reached an unknown amount by now.
Even the teachers had fallen completely under his control.
Although this school was directly affiliated with the Imperial Education Bureau and had never had a principal, from now on, there would undoubtedly be only one absolute ruler...
