Chapter 297: Infiltrating S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters (Second Update)
Chapter 297: Infiltrating S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters (Second Update)
After leaving the villa, Jerry first cast a Disguise Charm on himself, then took out the Magic Mirror.
None of the people Jerry had given Magic Mirrors to knew that he didn't need the mirrors to connect. He could use the main mirror to instantly teleport to the location of any of the secondary mirrors.
This meant that if Jerry wanted to, he could instantly teleport to anyone who had one of his Magic Mirrors.
"You really are something!"
When Jerry used the main mirror to teleport to the secondary mirror in Nick Fury's possession, he discovered that Nick Fury wasn't carrying the mirror with him. Instead, he had placed it in a sealed room.
Of course, Nick Fury must have known through Black Widow and others that Jerry could teleport using the Magic Mirror connection, so he deliberately left it in a fixed, sealed location.
He might not have known that Jerry could teleport without the connection, but his cautious nature would have led him to suspect it and take precautions.
As the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., a man with countless secrets in his head, he couldn't afford to let anyone appear in front of him at any time.
"Alohomora!"
Jerry casually cast an Alohomora on the sealed door, and the steel door, which required fingerprint and iris recognition to open, easily swung open.
No matter what kind of lock it was, as long as it was a lock, Alohomora could open it, unless it was sealed with additional magic.
Carefully pushing the door open and stepping out, he soon overheard a conversation between nearby staff members and learned his current location.
He was on Theodore Roosevelt Island, on the Potomac River in Washington D.C., which was also the location of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s headquarters, the Triple-Arched Tower.
This was Jerry's first visit to S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters.
Previously, when he met Nick Fury, it was either at the base on 219 West 47th Street in New York or on the flying Helicarrier.
"Let's find Nick Fury's location!"
Jerry took out an owl, cast a Disguise Charm on it, wrote a letter to Nick Fury, and sent it off with the owl.
He followed behind the owl, using Alohomora to open various doors and Freezing Charm to pause any surveillance equipment or alarm systems that might detect the opening of doors.
Before long, he arrived at a door marked "S.H.I.E.L.D. Director's Office."
Recalling the owl, Jerry knew that Nick Fury should be inside.
S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters, Director's Office.
"How is it going with the Academy?"
Nick Fury asked Coulson.
"I've sent someone over, but we just received word that the recruitment wasn't successful. They said they need to consider it and will give a response tomorrow. Director, do you think he has discovered something?"
Coulson's face showed a hint of worry.
"It's unlikely he discovered anything, but given his nature, he probably has some suspicions. However, it shouldn't be a problem; he won't find anything incriminating at the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy."
Just as Nick finished speaking, he suddenly furrowed his brow.
"Coulson, did you not close the door when you came in?"
"I did close it, I'm sure of it!"
Coulson looked at the door in surprise and noticed that it was slightly ajar, revealing a gap.
"Really? Maybe there's a problem with the lock."
"Maybe, Coulson. Your resurrection this time was a stroke of luck. Remember to get regular check-ups at the Recovery Center to prevent any lingering side effects."
Nick Fury got up to close the door tightly, then turned to give Coulson some instructions.
"To be honest, I feel great right now. Everything is perfect. When can you assign me a mission? I feel like I'm going to mold from inactivity!"
Coulson shrugged, voicing his complaint.
Since his resurrection and return from the idyllic Tahiti, Nick Fury had not given him any missions and frequently had him undergo physical examinations.
The only task so far was to have the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy admissions officers naturally recruit the Witch into the academy.
"Don't worry, Coulson. This time, I have a big gift for you. You'll be thrilled!"
Nick Fury smiled, a rare occurrence, and activated the projector in his office. A large aircraft appeared in front of Coulson.
Coulson looked at the projection with a puzzled expression.
"Isn't that the Bus?"
The Bus was S.H.I.E.L.D.'s primary airborne command base, built in the 1980s and 1990s at a cost of around four to five hundred million dollars. However, it was mothballed in a warehouse after the Helicarrier was constructed.
"Yes, I had it refurbished recently. From now on, it will be your exclusive airborne combat base. I'll also have Hill prepare a list of top agents for you to choose from.
You can select the ones that best fit your needs and form your own specialized combat team for missions targeting special events."
Nick Fury sat back down behind his desk.
He had not brought Coulson back to leave him idle. This period was just to observe Coulson's condition, as the method used to bring him back had significant side effects.
Coulson was initially taken aback, but then his face lit up with joy.
Having an exclusive airborne combat base and the ability to form a specialized combat team was the best treatment one could receive in S.H.I.E.L.D. Any high-ranking agent would be envious.
Indeed, the near-death experience during the alien invasion had its rewards. The Director clearly still favored him.
"Thank you, Director. I will ensure the team completes all missions successfully!"
"Coulson, I have always had faith in your abilities. Go see Hill!"
Fury waved his hand, signaling that Coulson was free to leave and attend to his duties.
As soon as Coulson left, Nick Fury immediately began reviewing the surveillance footage to check the situation outside his office door.
"Strange, was I just being paranoid?"
On the monitor, Coulson had indeed closed the door behind him, but shortly after, the lock had suddenly popped open, revealing a small gap.
"I'm Nick Fury. Have the tech team come and inspect the door to my office!"
After reviewing the footage, Nick Fury picked up the phone on his desk and made the call.
On the other side of the line, Jerry had been invisibly floating in the air, watching him.
It turned out that Jerry had used Alohomora to unlock the door and then used Apparition to instantly transport himself into the office.
Apparition only worked in places Jerry had been before or could see with his eyes. Since he had never been to the Director's office, he couldn't Apparate directly inside.
So, he first used Alohomora to create a small gap in the door, then, after seeing the interior through the gap, he Apparated inside.
