Chapter 296: Mantlescramble Battle (31)
Chapter 296: Mantlescramble Battle (31)
Tat-tat-tat-tat...
"This is the Gotham Police. Drop your weapons and surrender with your hands raised", bellowed a police officer through a bullhorn, leaning out of a helicopter’s open cabin door toward Feng Bu Jue and Seven Kill.
Only five minutes had passed since their fight began.
In truth, the meddlers arrived even as the two had been exchanging words.
The area around Wayne Tower was completely surrounded by police cars, while snipers had been stationed on rooftops of surrounding buildings. Of course, since Wayne Tower was the tallest structure nearby, factors like wind currents and the darkness of night made it nearly impossible for the snipers to get a clear shot unless Feng Bu Jue and Seven Kill descended from the rooftop.
The Gotham Police had deployed two helicopters, circling the skyscraper with spotlights as if the two otherworldly visitors were Kongs. Though the police helicopters weren’t equipped with heavy machine guns, each carried a ghostwriter armed with a rifle.
Several heroes from Net of Gods had also arrived—Nightwing, Damian, Catwoman, and others, totaling six or seven. Other heroes couldn’t all come to interfere here, as Gotham City’s streets were still rampant with criminals, and their presence was needed more than ever with police forces stretched thin.
"Do you have a plan, Commissioner?" Nightwing asked, approaching Gordon without greeting.
Gordon stood beside a police car, holding a telescope and radio, busily directing units. Seeing Nightwing, he replied in his usual stern tone: "My men told me Batman and Joker are fighting up there."
"No, they’re not", Nightwing countered.
"I know. My men also said those two monsters move so fast they’re almost invisible and can punch through concrete with their bare hands", Gordon replied.
"So?" Nightwing urged him to continue.
Gordon added, "I think we should let them finish their fight first, then deal with whoever survives. It’s easier than fighting both at once."
Nightwing asked, "Are you saying one of them has to die after this?"
Before Gordon could answer, a deafening explosion erupted from the rooftop above, prompting a chorus of gasps from the onlookers below.
A chunk of concrete from the roof’s edge shattered and plummeted toward the ground.
"God!" Gordon exclaimed, just as a strong, muscular arm yanked him aside.
Seconds later, the concrete crashed onto the roof of the police car where Gordon had stood moments earlier. The impact triggered a cacophony of blaring sirens and horns.
As the dust settled, Gordon realized it was Nightwing who had pulled him to safety. Adjusting his glasses, he ignored the need for thanks and immediately shouted at an officer nearby: "Who’s going to shut off that damn alarm?! And check if anyone’s injured!"
Nightwing stood behind him, gazing upward. "Well… looks like these two are serious. This fight’s definitely going to end with one of them dead."
...
"Amazing…" Seven Kill stared at his fist, then at the massive chunk of shattered building beside him. "When I first put on the Batman suit, I thought it was just lightweight and flexible with lots of special functions. But in actual combat, I finally understand what a Legendary-Level Equipment truly means." He turned to Feng Bu Jue, who had retreated ten meters away, on guard. "Still, Feng Bu Jue, who exactly are you? To fight me to a stalemate under these conditions… it’s almost insulting to my pride."
"Right. I went through all this trouble just to hurt your pride", Feng Bu Jue replied sarcastically.
"Hehehe… Sorry, sorry", Seven Kill chuckled, catching the joke. "I got carried away because the fight was so fun."
Feng Bu Jue didn’t respond. He wiped a streak of blood from his lips, spat out a mouthful of crimson, and calculated mentally: Though I’m ranked outside the top ten in combat power, in pure martial arts, I might rival Shiva. He’s clearly a specialist type—focusing entirely on one Proficiency. Besides his universal Proficiency boost, his Martial Arts Proficiency is extremely high, while everything else is below E-level or even N/A. Giving this guy the Batman suit is like giving a tiger wings… like a Cerberus.
Pew-pew!
A high-pitched beam sliced through the air—a low-powered Frozen Pulse Rifle shot.
Unfortunately, Seven Kill simply sidestepped, dodging both shots. The beam grazed the Batman Armor, leaving only a faint frost mark, which Seven Kill brushed off with a casual hand motion.
"This kind of attack doesn’t affect my Vitality Value at all", Seven Kill remarked. "Unless you’ve got heavy firepower, you’d better focus on close combat."
Seven Kill was straightforward and honest. His personality often led opponents to misinterpret him as arrogant, but he was simply a straightforward duelist who enjoyed the fight itself.
How strong was the Batman suit he wore? Before listing its specific Attributes, it was worth noting several unique features of this Equipment.
Unlike Cold Blood Armor, the Batman suit wasn’t a single "integrated" piece but a collection of individual components, each capable of standing alone:
1. Batman Helmet: Crafted from impact-resistant synthetic graphite with a bulletproof fiber coating, it was nearly immune to small arms fire. The helmet’s electronic system was detailed in the previous chapter and won’t be repeated here.
2. Batman Armor: Made of Nomex fireproof fiber armor-plated with carbon fiber enhancements, it was nearly impervious to blades and bullets. It could withstand high-intensity frontal gunfire to a limited extent. The outer shell was covered in soft leather for comfort while maintaining Defense. It also included a temperature regulation system to keep the body warm, preventing muscle stiffness during combat (unlike Cold Blood Armor, which had negative side effects).
3. Batman Gauntlets and Gloves: Made of the same material as the armor, the forearm housed retractable blades and buttons controlling remote vehicles and some helmet functions. The gloves had extreme adhesion (far surpassing spider silk gloves), aiding in climbing and movement.
4. Batman Greaves and Boots: Reinforced fireproof kneepads and boots with Kevlar Nomex groin armor. The soles contained ultrasonic Batman Transmitters and could deploy ice skate blades.
Among these, the Batman Armor was Flawless Quality, while the other three were Fine-Level Quality. When all four were worn together, they formed a single Legendary-Level Equipment:
[Name: Batman Suit]
[Type: Armor]
[Quality: Legendary]
[Defense: Extreme]
[Attribute: Refraction, Isolation, Cushion]
[Special Effect: Inherit all functions of the four individual Batman equipment and boost the user’s Proficiency by one level]
[Equipment Condition: Male, physically suitable]
[Can be taken out of scenario]
[Background: I’m Batman!]
Of course, accessories like the Batman Utility Belt, Mantle, Batarang, Micro Mines, and other consumables weren’t included in the core suit.
Seven Kill’s original Martial Arts Proficiency was B-Level. With the Batman suit, it became horrifyingly advanced—A-Level. As previously mentioned, the game defined A-Level Proficiency as: A-Level, Mastery. Has a chance to spontaneously learn skills in this system. At this level, skill activation success rate is 100%.
Feng Bu Jue, on the other hand, had only recently raised his Martial Arts Proficiency to C-Level after fighting Shiva. Without Soul Intent’s support, he would’ve already lost to Seven Kill.
"I’m working on it", Feng Bu Jue replied calmly, his expression showing no fear, though his eyes were narrowed in a weary, half-dead look.
But his mind raced, strategizing: Excluding Death Poker, my current weapons… the pipe wrench and Folding Stool as cold weapons can still be used, but their effectiveness won’t be great. Unless he stands still for me to shoot, Moxxi’s Bad Temper and Frozen Pulse Rifle are nearly useless. His helmet is far more advanced than my mask—Goblin Toxic Gas Mask’s poison won’t work either…
Hmm… The only things that might break his Defense are the Anti-Gravity Launcher and the two Mark II Grenades. The former lacks a suitable opportunity, and the latter… making him sit still for an explosion is easier said than done.
This Batman suit is practically flawless… If he were an average player, I’d have a chance. But he’s a martial arts powerhouse…
As Feng Bu Jue pondered, he glanced at the two helicopters above and muttered, "Tch… A bunch of Battle Five Zha. Not even bringing machine guns. What’s the point of coming here?" He abandoned his plan to loot weapons from the police.
Whoosh—
A sudden, fast-approaching Batman Batarang interrupted Feng Bu Jue’s thoughts.
But he didn’t move—no evasive action at all.
The Batman Batarang flew in an arc, veering outward, and finally, its edge barely grazed Feng Bu Jue’s neck without causing any injury.
"Oh? What was that?" Feng Bu Jue turned to confirm, "Trying to loop back?"
"I was testing if you’d dodge", Seven Kill said.
Feng Bu Jue understood immediately: "Ah… So you threw a Batarang that looked like it would hit but actually veered off, testing my predictive ability?"
"Exactly", Seven Kill replied, his eyes narrowing in confusion. "Your predictive skills are baffling… Is it some kind of future-seeing ability?" He paused, then dismissed his own theory: "No, in both real and virtual worlds, such an ability shouldn’t exist." He rubbed his chin, murmuring, "But your accurate judgment of attacks and near-perfect responses… what exactly are they?"
