Chapter 296: Forging Valyrian Steel
Chapter 296: Forging Valyrian Steel
Liam had established a modern Realm in this world, where even the nobility was merely a title of Honor Points, wielding little actual power. However, given the strength of this nation, many fallen nobles and heirs without inheritance rights from noble families sought refuge here.
House Mormont was no exception. Though they understood that the nobility here was different from their own, they still resolutely sent their own members. It was clear that this family had a more far-sighted and strategic perspective.
Liam, of course, did not turn these people away. With the vast territories he had recently annexed, the next phase would focus on development and integrating these spoils. In such a situation, recruiting nobles who knew the local conditions was essential. Sometimes, many benefits could be negotiated, especially with the backing of formidable military power.
"Miss Leanna, please swear your allegiance to your lord", a purple light orb called out as it flew from the main hall.
"Isn't this a bit too hasty?" Liam drew his sword, mimicking what he had seen in old TV shows, lightly tapping Leanna's shoulder as she knelt, and mentally grumbled to the small puppet floating above his head. After all, this was just in the temple's backyard, and everything was done without preparation. Even the sword was a temporary loan from Rose Crystal, a Crystal Sword.
"But they don't think so", Rose Crystal pointed out. Indeed, everyone present looked honored, and when Rose Crystal proposed the idea, the young Bear Maiden had immediately knelt.
"I'm your puppet sister, but they don't know that. In their eyes, a deity has proposed a ceremony of allegiance and even lent their weapon to the lord for the ritual. In this context, the honor of this ceremony far surpasses a formal one in a grand hall."
After the ceremony, Liam instructed the young Bear Maiden to attend the Temple School along with everyone else before leaving with Rose Crystal. Leanna had no objections, as she had already learned that Liam would appoint future managers based on examinations, and to do well, one must attend school. The best school, of course, was the Temple School.
After spending more than half a year in this world, Liam had stabilized the situation and established his own power base. With everything in place, Liam decided it was time to return home, and Rose Crystal was eager to share her incredible experiences with Teacher Luo Zhen and the other sisters.
"What about the Temple after you leave?" Liam asked Rose Crystal, who was enthusiastically packing gifts for her teacher and sisters. "Will everything be fine without you here?"
"Don't worry, Big Brother", Rose Crystal said, stuffing a dragon tooth and a glass candle into her box. "I've placed a portion of my divine flame in the main temple, which should be enough to handle daily affairs. Besides, I'll definitely come back to check on things from time to time, as this is now our world."
After packing everything, Liam and Rose Crystal bid farewell to their subordinates and opened a portal, leaving in front of them. With thousands of loyal Synth officials and Rose Crystal's Temple system fully operational, Liam saw no need to stay. Besides, he wasn't going away forever. He had no concerns about what might happen in his absence.
Upon returning to the Multiverse General Store, Liam received 56 Deviation Points. He expected more Deviation Points as he became more involved in this world.
After spending 30 Deviation Points to solidify his previously learned Magic knowledge and master a few sword techniques, Liam began attempting to recreate one of the world's most important technologies: the method for creating Valyrian Steel.
Although his time in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire was relatively short, Liam hadn't managed to acquire a Valyrian Steel sword. However, as a king who had conquered numerous territories, he had amassed a fair amount of Valyrian Steel cutlery, jewelry, and staff heads. Additionally, during the process of freeing the slave city-states, a liberated slave blacksmith had presented the skill of Valyrian Steel recasting to the Temple as a tribute.
By combining these items with High Valyrian, Liam started using Alchemy to explore the method for creating Valyrian Steel. After just over a day of analysis, he cracked the technique.
After all, in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire, even during the peak of Valyria, Magic was far cruder compared to other Magic worlds. For instance, the creation of Valyrian Steel did not involve the usual concealment techniques favored by Alchemists.
This was likely because that world had not developed a Magic system as sophisticated as those in the Harry Potter world or the Rosary Maiden World, or because the use of Magic was known only to a select few. Therefore, the inventor of Valyrian Steel didn't worry about others cracking the method by analyzing samples.
With the help of the Rose Crystal, they melted the Valyrian Steel. As the spell was chanted, runes appeared on the Alchemical Array beneath the molten metal.
"This is the first time I've seen an Alchemy product that doesn't hide its methods at all", Rose Crystal remarked, noting down the runes. "It's so simple; anyone who knows High Valyrian and can use Magic could make this."
"Unfortunately, even during the height of Valyria, there weren't many people who could do that", Liam replied. "The analysis is complete. Let me see how it's done."
"Ordinary steel is repeatedly purified to create fine steel. Then, Dragon Blood is added, and the steel is heated with dragonfire while chanting a spell. Once the molten steel cools, it becomes Valyrian Steel. It doesn't seem too difficult, almost too simple, really", Liam thought after reviewing the method.
"However, when Valyria was destroyed, the few people who knew how to forge Valyrian Steel were too concentrated in one area. When they died in the disaster, the forging method was lost. The Targaryens, as survivors, were warriors and lacked the knowledge to recreate this technology. Eventually, they even lost their dragons, and the technique was lost forever", Rose Crystal quickly deduced the reason for the loss of the Valyrian Steel forging method.
In the following time, Liam used the dragonfire from Fire Dragon Grass and the Dragon Blood he had traded from Charlie to successfully replicate Valyrian Steel.
"It feels alright", Liam said, swinging the newly forged sword. "But it still can't match the Goblin-forged Gryffindor's Dagger. To improve it further, I'll have to rely on Teacher Luo Zhen."
Liam put away the sword and then bid farewell to Rose Crystal, who was leaving for the Rosary Maiden World with a large bag. He then returned to his bed in the Gryffindor Tower dormitory.
